![]() Move------------Games-------------Score %-----------Often played by Bb2--------------1996---------------53.7----------------Fabiano Caruana a4-----------------765---------------55.8----------------Maxime Vachier- Lagrave, Fabiano Caruana Nf3----------------425-----------------61----------------Vishy Anand, Vladimir Akopian I have taken out the last year played field because all these moves were played during 2017. The e3 move is in the database. It does have a good winning rate of 61% but it's only been played 13 times. This move is liked by GM Faruk Bistric the Macedonian Grandmaster. In spite of the above data I am nevertheless going to support e3. I have tried to analyze and have come to the conclusion that it is the strongest move. Martin |

![]() Clash Easy Ipsi redfox dmaestro a4 canuktuff abstain elyhim We are missing deepthough. I will move 8.e3. The below is meant for Easy but might be helpful to others as well: The purpose of A4 Is to facilitate the exchange of Blacks DSB. The reason we want to do this is because black has weakened his dark squares by placing many pawns on light squares. Note that our Rook would now be available for support if we played Ba3. The disadvantage of this move is that it weakens our own dark squares and specifically the b4 square. Nevertheless if we have an opportunity to exchange Blacks DSB we should. The a4 move also seeks to inhibit a possible black attack on our queen inside which is one of our strengths. Your comments are invited. Martin |

![]() The moves that are most often played (ChessBase) are 9.Bb2 and also 9.a4. There are not many instances of these moves and we will soon be out of the book. GM Faruk Bistric who has played this line more than anyone else likes 9.Nc3. The current position is: Whitr to move. ![]() Martin |
