Welcome to the club cplusplus11!

Hope this club can be of help to you in the upcoming months.Sometimes reading about chess theory and picking apart where your areas of weakness's lie,may seem boring to some players, but in the end,if you read over some of the posts in this club and begin to APPLY them, you may indeed see an improvement in your chess strength. There is much more to chess and GK than simply playing games and tournaments. Many chess players want "action" and think that "play, play, play"is the only way to improve.Answer:No,incorrect.Taking a step back, analyzing your strengths and weakness's,knowing where those areas of positional fluctuations exist and/or having a stronger player(preferably above master level)examine those areas of your game that need improvements are key.In other words, take time to slow down and smell the roses!

Perhaps you may want to begin with two club posts....."How to get better at chess, guide for all levels" and "The weakest squares on the chessboard".See where you stand on those areas of thought to begin with.

Good luck, and always ask questions and i'm here to be of assistance whenever I can be.During the summer months,I may not be as active to respond since I travel a bit,but be patient.

Hello Edmund!
I hope some of the posts/threads and members of this club(including me)will be able to help your game play out as time moves on.Always ask questions and the answers will be supplied to you as soon as possible.I'm not as active in the summer months due to travelling and other things, but I will try and get back to you as soon as time permits.

darknite13 is out on medical leave from GK right now,so his strong input/diagrams will be nonexistent for a while.Jkarp is very helpful as well. And any book advise/questions is best asked to shamash, another club member. My personal book advise is geared more for the expert to senior master level, but I have a few suggestions that have helped the lesser rated as listed in the book post/thread as hogfysshe pointed out in that thread.

Good luck and see you around in the club!

NEW MEMBER
Hi, my name is LES and I like playing as high a rated player who will deign to play me. Been at it-playing above my head-for about a year.Testing wits with higher rated players has taught me a lot. Have been lasting longer in most games and drawn a couple. I recently won against someone considerably higher. So my approach seems to be paying off. Playing more rated games now, although I will always play a portion unrated.
Your club seems like like a great place to exchange chess playing ideas and theory, and to learn how to improve strategy and tactics that will enhance performance.
Thank you for accepting me as a member.

Welcome to the club Lesplay.Yes there is a lot of great information on improving your game here.I believe this is the best club on GK.I recently started playing unrated games too.I've heard playing higher rated players helps you improve.Theory is very important to learn.

Welcome as well Les.Good luck in the club and hope we can improve your insight into the game. When reading some of the already existing posts here,i'm sure that you may eventually have some questions, especially with some of the more complex info involved.Just ask away, and others and myself will do their best to define and detail some of the more salient points in the theory and openings dept.

I am not a full mentor or instructor as a one on one coach would do,but kind of a "guide" to point you in the right direction with a bit of detail followup explanations into the deeper areas of chess that many of the novice to intermediate players do not fully understand or have general misconceptions about. Its then up to you to try and piece the puzzle together!

Good luck!

Thank Joe. I've read a number of posts, and realize how much I lack theory. I'm relatively new to the game and have to depend on my limited experience and "common sense" when battling players 700-800 rating points higher. Hopefully will garner enough theory here to increase my successes.

Welcome to the club Billy,or may I call you Bill?

Lots of posts and conversations in this club already, even though the club is relatively new.I have transferred much info from a previous club I had, however.Hope the members and myself can help your game out in time.As far as i'm concerned, you are already an above average player so you are doing pretty good. The word "average"to me means an average strength player across the USA that plays, maybe has read a few chess books once in a while, plays some OTB and correp.,but has not really delved into the deeper sides of chess and has no actual chess instruction or mentor over the years. The "number"associated with what I deem "average"is approx 1400-1500,and perhaps a bit higher around more "metropolis" zones where there is more chess activity, chess clubs and elevated chess social gatherings that keep a player that lives in those areas more active in chess...thus a bit higher in rating many times,at least theoretically.
I've seen the rating numbers through various sources including the USCF,and believe it or not, geographic location does have an influence on your chess game strength!

So,you are doing fine,in my book!Lets see if we can improve that number a bit!

Hi I am new to club thing and even new to game knot also you can say new to strategic chess as well. previously i was playing but without any opening strategy , some how manage middle games . I want to improve my chess. after joining game knot I try to keep my game some what planned and was able to do untill i reached rating 1300 then my games started with some high rating player and I lost many games in row, i kind of dissappointed that even I started to loose to lower rated player also and I lost all tactics in thin air.
My caption of team suggested to join club which I never heard before. I hope I will get some help to keep my tactics improvement and win games.

Welcome to the club convex30.I'm sure,in time, this club will be able to help your game out.Start with..."How to get better at chess,a guide for all levels".See if you have studied some of the outlines a bit on the stages leading up to and equal to your present rating.Right now, with the summer,I may be a bit slower than usual in responding personally to you with your questions, but i'm sure there are others in the club that can assist you in the meantime.

Good luck!
