New Member Introductions:
Hello and welcome all to the Deeper Chess Theory Club!My name is Joe and i'm the founder/moderator of this club.

Do not let the name..."Deeper Chess Theory"become intimidating to you!Deeper stands for much deeper "in depth" club quality, extremely deep chess theory and other services that myself or the club members will be able to provide to your game and do its best to help improve your game play as time marches on.So you can be a complete beginner, intermediate or master and always return back to the club for questions and answers....and be given the same equal respect as a player that might be 2600 in rating. My handle name on GK is R-Baker(temporarily) and many of you know me from past/present GK forum posts as Tactical_Abyss with a past GK rating of over 2500.A few months ago I had closed my original account,so I am starting over at a lower rating of 2200+...but don't let that 2200 rating fool you,i'm still that 2500+ player you all knew from the past!It will simply take me approx 2 or 3 years to build my rating up again to senior master level as I had done in the past.I have been playing chess since age 8,so its been approx 50 years that I have been involved in chess.Chess clubs in High School,College,USCF OTB and Corresp. tourneys, postal chess and many chess correp.websites and blitz sites over the years have honed my chess knowledge and skills. My experience playing and mingling with strong players up to real GM's at the Manhattan and Marshall Chess clubs in NYC have given me insight into the game that has improved my personal play over the decades immensely. While I am not here in this club to be a personal trainer/mentor to anyone,I do enjoy giving some of my "abyss"tips and bulldoze out a road for you, giving you perhaps a better direction for your insight and continuing study into the royal game. Not everything I mention will be some kind of "magic formula" that will suddenly improve your play by several hundred rating points, but may very well lay a foundation for your game improvements or renewed interests in the game. Not everything I mention as time moves on you may agree with or understand.Sometimes I may show you how to take advantage of and exploit your opponent's weakness's or bad habits and crush him without mercy! But then, all is fair in "love and war" as I always say!

Good luck to all,and hope the members and myself can be of service to you in time!

The club may be small in numbers for a while, but will hopefully grow in time.

FYI:
My handle name is R-baker but I was previously called TA(Tactical_Abyss) and soon to be called "Wrecking_Ball".
I just love the name changes, hopefully confusing everyone, just like I do on the chessboard to my opponents!

Greetings,
I've been playing on Gameknot for about 5 years. I've slowly built my rating up into the 1800's but have plateaued out. I really would like to get a solid 2000+ rating if I can but as my moniker suggests I'm a bit old and old fashioned so improvement is slow. I'm on Gameknot for the chess and don't participate in political, religious or socio-economic debate. It' all about the chess.
cheers Wolfgang

Welcome to the club Wolfgang! And good luck! You are the first new member!Actually 1800 is a very respectable rating. In time I will try and help you improve a bit,and trust me, 2000 is very doable for you!You won't need all kinds of new cutting edge ideas to improve like you may believe.Old fashioned is good!I am a senior master(2500+) as many GK players know me from the past, but for now on GK my rating is of master level,(2200+).But I figured that 2220 will be a good starting point to offer some level of trust as I begin to post the chess theories again in this new club.I was going to wait to start this club when I was perhaps 2300-2400+ but that will take me quite a while and I figured that I do not want to keep some of my fans waiting!

Hello,

I'm sure you know me already r-baker and whatever you change your handle to

For everyone else, my name is Kent, but majority of people call me Ken. (Nothing against Kent, so either one is fine) I've been playing chess for many many years. After a major car crash gave me a severe TBI (traumatic brain injury) as well as some other injuries, I stopped playing for awhile. I am slowly working my way back into it. When I last played in a USCF tournament, I was around 1900, I believe. Staying in chess has really helped me in my recovery. (Though even today, I still feel some of the after effects that require me going to therapy. Life changing experiences for you)

My goal on the site is to share and expand my knowledge about the game and hopefully make a few new friends along the way. I love playing the Ruy Lopez and Queens Indian openings (white and black respectively), but I do like to mix it up sometimes. Some areas I still struggle with include finding the critical weak points in some of my higher rated games, or I under calculate sometimes and bend under extreme pressure. Not blaming that on my injury, I just need to work harder

My USCF rating is 1986, (though I am not a current member), and I continue to make strides toward improving my game. Thanks Joe for inviting me.

Your always welcome Ken.
I look forward in the knowledge you can share with the club members and myself in time.Right now,its simply getting more members and transferring some of my old posts to make our input worthy to the right people. That will come, for sure.

Chat with you soon!

Hi folks

Good to see a new version of the club up and running. Thanks WB. Always appreciate your wisdom and insight.

I try to devote a good portion of my overall chess time to studying. But for the past year, due to work stuff I haven't been able to play or study as much as I'd like.

Need to work on my endgame and probably more importantly on understanding how to arrive at the endgame in a strong position. Other than that, I only need to work on every other aspect of my game

Re WB's comment on creating confusion, that sounds fun. Less telegraphing and more surprise and potential surprise are things I'd like to bring more into my game.

Did you all see this game from a few weeks ago? Yow! Quite a win by Carlsen over Brazil champ Leitao. Game was rapid. But still... www.chessgames.com
some commentary, here www.spectator.co.uk

See you around the club.

Welcome to the new club Todd!
As usual, the club be a bit slow and dormant in its present state, but as the membership grows,so will the input. In time we will examine your endgame issues, some of which may be linked to the type of opening variations you are using and midgame file domination which can lead to stronger endgames. But this,at a later time.
I'm in the process of still replacing old posts which will take time and eventually adding on slowly.I'm a bit slow right now,and most of my responses will not come until the weekends.Take care for now.

WB or TA, or Joe ...either one.

Thanks for the invite. I'm glad to rejoin this club of a different name. I am the currently the lowest rated player here among us here on Gameknot. I'm playing more games than I usually play, however I am up to a challenge by any of the members here. I do not only play chess here. I play OTB chess. I am not USFC as of yet. I am however pro NRA and believe in the 2nd amendment. I am from the Detroit area, My name is Ron, I use the RF17 as my Alias. Redfox17 is the name I play under. Look forward to being apart of this club. I'm here to learn.

A pleasure as always Ron.Thanks for your kind words in the past,I keep an eye on everything!
In time,i'll do my best to try an help your game along. Now,if I could only add another 300 points to my rating like I had about 4 months ago,i'd be back to normal!Of course,i'm out for blood in the next 100 games or so,so my opponents better look out...the wrecking ball is about to begin smashing things!Ha ha!

Hello. Thanks for inviting me. My name is also Joe, believe it or not. I also want to become a better player and learn even more. That's why I'm glad to be here as I enjoy really going in depth and studying all of the different positions and possibilities. I know that by joining, there will be that with some good analysis at everything. And, I can incorporate this in a lot of my games.

Hey guys, I'm James.

I've been playing chess for 4 years now and have progressed a lot in that time, however I still believe I have a ways to go in my chess development. I actually learnt the game at 8 by watching friends play and then somehow winning the first game I ever played, I then proceeded to do well playing occasionally over the years and think I was probably playing at around 1000-1200 right from when I first started. However I didn't consider that "playing chess" because we are talking a couple of games over a few years with no concept of chess development, it was not until I was 14 that I joined a club and really became a chess player in the sense of playing regularly and trying to improve.

Welcome James!
I hope this club can help you out,if even in a small way.As I told others over the years,I am not going to be your mentor or personal trainer, but kind of turn you in the right direction to theory, psychology and other topics.Books are on my list of suggestions but Shamash is more the book expert than me.I have invited him into my club and he did accept, but he has not appeared as of yet due to time restraint issues.
In any case,James....your present "A" rating of 1955 is actually quite admirable. If anything, you can actually help others out in my club as time goes on.Doing your homework on an upcoming opponent before you decide to play him/her is also one key to success in corresp play.

hello
im pete. thank you WB for accepting me. Played since 1955. Now only play online for the last decade at various sites where my raing has been 2450. Got fedup with the constant insinuations about engine abuse because i never got around to getting an official rating otb. So now i am quite happy to sit around the 2100 ish mark and give help to the lower ranks when i can. Happy to play discussion games. If you want to play such then 5 days unrated wil allow us to chat about ideas and moves as we play.

Hello Pete and a warm welcome to you in this fine club!I'm sure as time goes on,you will be a big asset to this club.I have seen your help posts in the past and respect them very much.Right now,i'm more involved in posting, researching and discussing more involved info on theory, square control and more.I kind of take things in my own progressive step way.The shear bulk of that info and comment responses can/will get lengthy and involved.I plan to also annotate, but in time, not right now. You,however are free to annotate and play games between any present/future club members all you want.I have no policy against it.My approach is a bit different for the time being, however.Good luck!

new guy on board.

been around for several years and have not improved significantly using
my own methods. hmmmm

You can call me Ed.

oh, WB invited me to join after I messaged him about the current Snapshot Analysis
Problem and I gave Bb7 as my next move as black...my logic being place the white
squared bishop on it's most powerful square along the a8-h1 diagonal.

WB responded, " good, but not what I was looking for...."

And here I am.

Just another "Joe"
But more importantly, I am glad to be a part of a group that endeavors to share the best knowledge of this incredible historic pastime, chess. I had an opportunity to read several of the posts before requesting admittance and, although I struggle with time to invest, look forward to gleaning some prudent insights from experts.

I joined this site, Gameknot, around 7 years ago. At that time, I "thought" I knew a lot about chess and "thought" I was an "opening's" expert. I took over a club that had begun as a opening club and had to rename it to continue. Well, the rest is history and the lesson is that, I have so much to learn. Sure, my fascination with chess lead me to "captain" a club, but I soon realized that administration does not add knowledge.

Okay, enough said. Thank you for the allowance to join an elite group that endeavors to harness the intrinsic knowledge as well as value of this pastime. joe

Welcome to the club Joe!If I remember correctly, you were in my last club.
I look forward to some of your wisdom and help from time to time in any way you can help.

Other than my present club game and an occasional snapshot analysis post,i'm going to be a bit slow right now in the "nuts and bolts" dept regarding specific deeper study in some of the moves in theory, sporadic annotational insight ect.

The reason is a death in the family(my mother)last week.So I cannot get too technical right now.

Again,good luck in the club!

So many Joe's now,i'll be forced to sometimes just use our handle names when responding!

Hello everyone,

I am currently quite keen to step up my game and improve my chess playing knowledge (ultimately putting into practice so I can beat stronger opponents!), so this club looks like a good place to be with that goal in mind!

Sorry to hear about your loss WB.

Thx Leon,
Welcome! In time,i'm sure there will be topics and members in this club to help you out.Already, there is a large # of posts you can check out.I'm not terribly active right now,but will be in a few weeks.
So feel free to ask questions, start your own posts if you want and more.As to any book questions,Shamash is best at that in the club, but i've been known to suggest a book or two here and there.

Also, overlook my gallows humor that I have sometimes to get a chess point across, especially in my blitz games posted. That is simply my way.

I have played chess for a few years and recently started playing OTB and joined GameKnot in February. I try to improve my chess mainly by reading chess books.

Thanks for being admitted into the club
