The old paperback book in my personal library on the Barcza is:The Barcza-Larsen Defense by Paul Fields(1991).You can get copies from Amazon under 10 dollars.Master view with an edge for black, however. Perhaps Shamash has a better book source than I do? I would also study the A07 section of the Encyclopedia of Chess Openings for the pure Barcza positions (those positions that do not transpose). The Barcza could transpose, depending on you and your opponent's decisions to a Reversed King's Indian, a Reti, a Queen's Gambit Declined variation, an Indian defence, the English opening, or the Dutch defense. Think about how you intend to transpose. - If you play d3 and e4 you have a Reversed King's Indian. - If the opponent copies your moves symmetrically (1 Nf3 Nf6 2 g3 g6 3 Bg2 Bg7 4 0-0 0-0 5 c4 c5), then you should study the Symmetrical English (Carsten Muller). Two other books that I recently acquired are.... www.powells.com www.amazon.com I have not read the latter, but have them in my possession.I prefer looking over the ECO. |

Thanks! Also, a friend at the chess club told me that Yasser Sarawan's opening book concentrates on the Barcza, so I'm checking that out also. Thanks again |
