My vote goes with either Qb3 or g3 fianchettoing the bishop and perhaps enabling us to take the rook. Either move will do.

I'm with dmaestro on this and vote for Qa4 because it puts pressure on both of black's Bishops, leaving black in an uncomfortable position.

alex_ratchkov: I think that 8.Qa4 was a mistake...better was 8.Bg2 or 8.a3

1 vote Bg2 by Sue

I'm still thinking...

Qa4 was ok but after ...c5 we needed to worrry about the c pawn. Was out or I would have suggested a3 BxN PxB. Now Bg2 is probably best option.

The only thing I don't like about Bg2 is that our B is effectively blocked by our N. Now, I believe it was myevilluck who told me that it's generally not a good idea. Then again, teardrop34 mentioned something important which I posted in a recent annotation. Does it work for you. That chess quote is one of the few things that I deem to be irrelevant as I like the long diagnol. So, now becomes the bigger picture as just that reason wouldn't be thinking steps ahead, though. The question is what does it accomplish, and where do we get to? I like it because it enables us to castle short. For me, castling is what I'll still generally go for.

Our turn to move
From game chat "alex_ratchkov: The question for me now was which of the two candidate moves to choose: 9...Nc6 or 9...d5. I am going with 9...d5 since then my queen's knight might have more flexibility if it eventually goes on d7"

White to move...
