Embarrassing
You know I was pouring over my lines and realised, so obsessed was I with proving the king can be kept out of the corner....that they all stop at that point! I took that to be victory given that was what we were all discussing at the time. I have yet to show that, even with the king kept away from a1, White's pawn defender can be overcome. I'm not entirely convinced it can, That's the big problem with the colour of our bishop. But, one thing at a time! 42...Kh5 (no surprises there!) White to move.

????
That seems to lose your crucial b pawn. But, then again, I have solved my internet problems by chilling at a pub with free wi-fi at the train station after work. It COULD be the Peroni talking....or the Bulmer's....or the Jameson's.....I shall pause, sip and reflect as I'm sure a luminary of the chess world....or at least the GK world.... would not err so! More likely you are tempting poor ol Tips into an error like that dastardly Ruben is so fond of doing!

White to move This isn't really fair, you know, you're not playing any of those lines I had worked out. I expected you just to try and run that king for the corner and not use all this skill, cunning and what-not! But the TJ shall prevail! (Well. At least. I can't lose! )

I'm pretty sure that, even after I got home, yesterday, I played this out offline. Sometimes the king was denied entry to the corner after the pawn capture. Sometimes not. I'll drink er think upon this more when I get home.

actually still here, finishing off a Jameson's, waiting for a train, it really didn't take much to see that it's all over. It's established that pawn, bishop on wrong colour and king cannot chase that king out of the corner if it reaches there, we all agreed on that fact. Even a bishop sac won't earn victory. I think, somehow, I forced a pawn exchange in my winning lines last night but only, of course, by White doing everything I wanted it to! It has been educational, thanks Dave! Thanks to all of Tipsy's Place for playing out the draw for a little in the actual game, that was also educational. Overall, I am so accustomed to winning if I can gain a material advantage (except against that *&^*! Ruben) that I found it very hard to surrender the victory without rigorous proof. As I begin to knock on the door of being a semi-proficient chess player (as opposed to semi-pissed chess player) and thus meeting much more difficult opponents, as I already am, I'm learning that my own inestimable worth, a cocky grin and a pint of gin (it rhymed) is insufficient material to get the job done. Just as learning from my betters has dragged me out of the doldrums, continuing to learn from my betters might actually let me set a full spread of canvas (three sheets to the wind, of course ) and begin to plot a course to chess success! Chin chin! (And Geronimo!) TJ
