Additionally
I know I started this to see how you mix it up OTB out there in the real world, (And mix it up you do Joe, jealous, I seem forever to be working in the bush these past years so paucity of chess clubs within cooee!) but don't be shy of adding GK annotations into this thread as well. Though I must admit being allowed into your cheeful little club with Bert, Jock and Mary has been most enjoyable. Now, to stop reading your annotations and start writing mine! TJ Out

It's all good, John. And, thanks for the wishes. I definitely feel better but will certainly have to miss the club tomorrow since I'm still in the middle of the cold. And, I found out yesterday that next Friday, I'm back on during the day shift which means that I will be annotating more of TA's games since I talk a lot about him in some annotations. It's close to as much as I do with Jack. There will be a mix, as sometimes, I'll be annotating games from GM Susan Polgar, as well.
In fact, this was the second game I annotated against TA recently, and the fourth game, in general. gameknot.com

And, this was the first game in a while. gameknot.com

They're will be more, though. This Friday, I have to work during the day, so there won't be an OTB game, but I intend to, as noted, annotate another game by TA, this time, I'm thinking of a double R sac, or something different with a lot of theory. But, next Friday, I'm scheduled to work for the night shift. That means, that I will be able to go to the chess club before, and during that week, I will spend time for the OTB campaign.
But, even though I won't see Jack Stockel until next week, assuming it works out, I have resumed the campaign. It is, as you might guess, and instructive win by tactical-abyss. gameknot.com

great annotation Joe!

Thanks, John, and believe it or not, I have another one. But, this time it was the OTB campaign. As noted in the annotation, it was my first time, in about, 6 weeks that I could make it to the chess club. The unfortunate part is that I will not post it in the WTWLTR club because this wasn't a WTW club. My personal rule is that, in order for a game to make it in their, it must be against a runner, as that's the point of that club. And, now that Bert is gone until the summer (as he moved back) in order for it to qualify as a Walking the Walk game, it would have to be against Tom or Jack, himself because they're the runners. If it's against anyonelse, however, it doesn't qualify. On the other hand, any OTB game will be posted here, as it is still part of the campaign. So, without further adue, this was my win against Ted. gameknot.com

BTW, I have unusual news. Yes, I was able to make it to the club, but due to extenuating circumstances, Jack could not show up until 11:00. And, Ted was late. Therefore, we were discussing who should play two people. I agreed to this since I coached one student three times, and helped to coach the other student, when he was with Jack by having my analyze certain positions, as he was impressed with how I've coached Mary. Since I am known for being a good teacher, I felt that it would ideal to start off against the two for learning purposes, and it's the first time I've done that. But, Jack, typically does this. Then, Ted showed up, so I had a new student, as it was the first time that I coached Perry. But, playing against two people and then another game where things were on the wrong squares (which I explained how that happened) made it impossible to notate, and therefore, annotate games today as the position would've been corrupt from the beginning since things would get mixed up, including the fact that I had to stand for 15-20 minutes. If, however, time permits, I intend to annotate a game by tactical-abyss, but this time, it would not be unusual openings. Instead, it would be what the founder has asked me to do by annotating one which is long correspondence, and one which Joe just outplays his opponent.

What makes this OTB campaign even more unusual is the fact that, although I directly coached on the first game with Perry, towards the end, Jack showed. So, on the second game, he said, "Let me help you", to Perry. Believe it or not, I was glad that he said that. The idea being is that, like with Mary, the person who I coached for a first time is another student of Mr. Stockel, and I am not surprised that, despite the loss, he played quite well on his first game which shows just how good Jack really is. The thing is that even though I realized that I might make a mistake which is even easier to exploit, and when I'd lose, I didn't care. I wasn't there just to win, but rather, I wanted Perry to learn which is why I coached. In addition, Jack is the very reason that I can coach and mentor players the way that I do because, before I saw him, as you know, I was a beginner, and it took me a very long time to improve. That is also why the saga between me and Jack has been around since I started going to him, which was, before joining this website. Therefore, it has been there for 11 years and still continues, even to this day. So, when he did make a mistake early and I told him it was, I also said that I will let and want Jack to analyze it, as it was the first time in a long while, that I had expertie analysis with someone that I trained. And, he did mention how I would win a Q. So, what it boils down is, the coach right on top of a student, so that way, the student and teacher both learn. Sure enough, that paid off as I made a mistake that lost the game, despite being a Q up, and Jack showed how and what he should play.

I got very lucky and wound up having time to annotate another game by TA. The reason being is that, workers came over this morning to fix up a part of the house which prevented from sleeping, as late as, usual on my day off. What I annotated was a game between Joe and Jim. The reason being is that before it became one mentoring groups, there were separate groups and WTWLTR club. And, I was in the realjimfriars mentoring group. Yet, tactical-abyss won against him, so that helped me decide which one of his games to annotate, and I was able to do so, today.
With that being said, this was the game. gameknot.com
I also must note that the annotations, like today, are being moved to Wednsday, and possibly not done until the end of the week which would be Thursday, due to when the OTB club occurs. It's simply because of the busy schedule. And, the campaign, this week was more then average because late last night, a student who I've directly mentored in two games, had two annotations. So, given that I didn't have to work today, you better believe that I stayed up later then usual to continue mentoring her through her annotations. This is a special circumstance because do you remember where I said that I became somewhat well known for mentoring, when my comments were viewed with a student? Well, this was the student. In fact, I stayed up an hour later then played, due to two mistakes in my variations that I had to go back and edit, as I realized that they wouldn't work. Doing a lot of study which is how I improved.

With that being said, this was the first game she annotated, last night. gameknot.com

And, this was the second game. gameknot.com

Edit to my post on the fourteenth at 15:56 This time, I might be able to do it sooner since, for the first time in a while, my game against Jack Stockel only lasted 20 moves. So, I think the annotation can get done sooner, this time around.

When this campaign started at WTWLTR club, before I rejoined, one thing that jstevens1 mentioned was her game against Ron. Well, I decided to annotate his win. gameknot.com

thanks Joe, I've upped my chess games so haven't had time to read any annotations. I'll be sure to have a look at these one day.
I understand that feeling, all to well. I remember that, until last week, I was much less active due to having more games, on top of the really busy work schedule. So, I know what you're going through, John.
Although I have posted OTB anntotations in the Annotation Alley, lately, things change here. That's because training players is another part of this campaign. And, after working with many Mary many times, for the first time, she was able to defeat me, without any help from Jack Stockel which shows how much improvement my student has made. And, despite winnning, she has learned a lot which also makes me happy. gameknot.com

BTW
I have updates. Ok, remember how I mentioned that the annotations would have to wait until mid week but was able to get it done by early weekend? Well, that changing. For one thing, Tai Chai Class is on Thursdays, but there wasn't any on for a few weeks. And, before that, I was working out on Tuesday, before work. With things back to normal and the fact that my schedule for Tuesday's have changed, it won't be possible. That's important because I used to do the annotations on Saturday (and sometimes) into Sunday. What's changing is that I'll be excercising on Saturday mornings before work. This means that they'll have to wait, until Tuesday or Wednesday because the one thing that I cannot do is give up going to the gym especially because I need more fitness. Second, I found out a few hours ago that the place which runs the chess club, has cancelled all activities, including the chess. It's because they are going to need that space due to unusual circumstances. Therefore, I do, at some point this week, plan to annotate another game by tactical-abyss. But, it'll be later this week.

I have recently completed another game against Jack Stockel. gameknot.com

I hope that John is following because I have annotated another OTB chess game. gameknot.com

Hey Joe!
As you may notice, my vac flag is still set, started a new job, moved to a new city (Well, one I've lived in before and know like an old friend so not quite the shock it would be for one making the move for the first time.), then the office moved suburbs, they would have liked to start us after the move but, well, then something else happened! Anyway it's been mental, I'm only really keeping up with Ruben giving me a pasting and the KoH game since that obviously doesn't stop for lil ol Tips! I look forward to your annotations when it all settles down, a x-mas treat I'm sure! Though I did glance at your first annotation; cplus is going to get a pasting when I have the time. Learn some theory indeed! Perchance he should learn some manners! As a club founder it would never do to violate the spirit of my own club and GK rules but, honestly! Still, at least he is reading and commenting on your annotations so we'll give him credit for that. Though your annotations are becoming quite the thing, Joe, all the cool kids seem to spend time there! I'd be jealous perhaps if I weren't so proud for humble ol Tipsy to be mentioned in one of your stirling annotations!
Thanks John. I understand what you're going through, and I hope it settles down. Talk about the season, I've annotated another OTB game. gameknot.com But, the title says it all because it will be my last time until January 6th. The reason is because the place that runs the activities will be closed on Christmas and New Years Day.
Although I do give breaks from Annotation Alley, it can't apply for the campaign with Jack. gameknot.com However, starting next week, the campaign will temporarly stop. In other words, I won't be annotating any OTB games, unless it's against Jack Stockel. That will, temporarly change in February since I would've just come back from vacation. But, after that, it all ends until May. This also affects team matches, posts, everything else. In fact, we're talking about me active on the computer, and it's due to the final season of American Idol, which I posted in the Team Captains of Gameknot. That really limits my time, but since it's the last season, that can't be missed. When it's over, everything will go back to normal.

Catching up, Joe, one by one!

Ha ha! All caught up on Annotation Alley! A bit of Snow in one hemisphere and a sunny public holiday in the other, sitting outside, under my erected "event shelter", having enjoyed a BBQ and some tennis, decided to enjoy some chess. With frothies and vino of course!

did I say Annotation Alley? I meant the jkarp campaign! Now over to the Alley!

I see that you are catching up, nice. And, I did mention why it's being put on pause. But, last week, nothing new happened. That's because my work schedule changed, the day before which made it impossible for me to make to the club.
