New Member Introductions:
Hello and welcome all to the Deeper Chess Theory Club!My name is Joe and i'm the founder/moderator of this club.

Do not let the name..."Deeper Chess Theory"become intimidating to you!Deeper stands for much deeper "in depth" club quality, extremely deep chess theory and other services that myself or the club members will be able to provide to your game and do its best to help improve your game play as time marches on.So you can be a complete beginner, intermediate or master and always return back to the club for questions and answers....and be given the same equal respect as a player that might be 2600 in rating. My handle name on GK is pandemonium_666(temporarily) and many of you know me from past/present GK forum posts as Tactical_Abyss with a past GK rating of over 2500.A few months ago I had closed my original account,so I am starting over at a lower rating of 2200+...but don't let that 2200 rating fool you,i'm still that 2500+ player you all knew from the past!It will simply take me approx 2 or 3 years to build my rating up again to senior master level as I had done in the past.I have been playing chess since age 8,so its been approx 50 years that I have been involved in chess.Chess clubs in High School,College,USCF OTB and Corresp. tourneys, postal chess and many chess correp.websites and blitz sites over the years have honed my chess knowledge and skills. My experience playing and mingling with strong players up to real GM's at the Manhattan and Marshall Chess clubs in NYC have given me insight into the game that has improved my personal play over the decades immensely. While I am not here in this club to be a personal trainer/mentor to anyone,I do enjoy giving some of my "abyss"tips and bulldoze out a road for you, giving you perhaps a better direction for your insight and continuing study into the royal game. Not everything I mention will be some kind of "magic formula" that will suddenly improve your play by several hundred rating points, but may very well lay a foundation for your game improvements or renewed interests in the game. Not everything I mention as time moves on you may agree with or understand.Sometimes I may show you how to take advantage of and exploit your opponent's weakness's or bad habits and crush him without mercy! But then, all is fair in "love and war" as I always say!

Good luck to all,and hope the members and myself can be of service to you in time!

The club may be small in numbers for a while, but will hopefully grow in time.

FYI:
My handle name is pandemonium_666 but I was previously called wrecking_ball and soon to be called tactical-abyss again.I had other past handle names on this site as well, including steamroller and the_6th_dimension.

I just love the name changes, hopefully confusing everyone, just like I do on the chessboard to my opponents!

Oh,by the way,I am a US Senior Master, but for personal security reasons prefer to remain anonymous.

Oddlord Intro:
Tim,I moved your intro into this appropriate thread. Thanks for understanding.

Introduction
I am Tim from Cortland New York I am 51 years old learned chess as a 10 year old from a friend but have only been taking it seriously for the last 3 years I am a otb rating of 1800 which is way below my gameknot rating I really struggle in live play I freeze and forget simple theory I like gameknot because I can check my notes and watch videos on certain openings which cant be done in live chess my goal is to get so familiar with openings and defenses that I don't need notes I can just play them instinctively.

I look forward in helping your game out in time and good luck, you are a very strong player.

Hi, I'm Charlie. From the UK. Pleased to see you have returned and prepared to share with us again your experiences and expertise. I've been playing chess for 50 years and a team captain here on GK. Your wit and critical debate on actual play can only but benefit my game.

Charlie....
Nice to see you again Charlie!Your always welcome,no matter how many times my club moves into the twilight zone!!Ha ha.I have a feeling, that this one will be around for a long time!

As you know,my wit or odd charm is all in fun.As long as I stay out of those other GK forums,I will be ok.Those other forums tend to make me spit lava back at players, and I certainly do not want to do that....at least for a long while!

Hope I can be of assistance to you again Charlie! When I get my game load down to 2 or 3 games,I will have more time to add more posts and help more members in this club.

Good luck!

Hi everyone! I'm Nick, 16 years old from South Africa. I started playing chess when I was quite young, and got into it, playing tournaments and such, before I decided it was taking up too much time and I let go of it. I'm now just starting to play again, although this time much more for enjoyment and more casually.
I'm looking forward to gaining the club's insight!

Nick
Well, enjoy. Many of the subjects in this club can get quite complex.I'll do my best to break some of that tougher stuff down.I am not really an instructor as much as I would like to,but kind of a guide into theory, openings, positional point value changes based upon position and many more subjects.

Begin, perhaps by clicking on this link below, going down the list to your rating level and seeing what you have maybe read up on,or have any experience with.Your future questions should be under any of the posts in this club but NOT this one(which is mainly for introductions). You should be aware of some things like which is more valuable in open and closed games....your Bishops vs Knights, for example. If your not sure,or if you do not know the difference between open and closed games, there is a post for that in the club....not sure which pg.If you can't find it,i'll be back.

Hi Folks

Nice to see the club up and running again. I was a member of a few of TA's past clubs. Have always enjoyed the tremendous range of information and the "special features" like the queen sacrifice blitz games. Thanks as always TA for being so generous with your time, sharing so much of your knowledge and experience.

I've been a fan of TA since I first joined GK back in 2010. I hadn't played in decades (and had only played a small amount of very basic chess from age 8 to 12 or so) when my boss suggested I check out GK. I read the forums and saw this TA guy making some interesting posts, ...Shamash and a few others too back then. So I checked out some of TA's games and was immediately intrigued. After playing for a year or so and gaining a bit of framework for understanding what I was looking at, it was still (and still is) hard to make sense of what I was seeing. The coordination of pieces in particular and also how he often moves a piece ONCE only to have it be in the ideal spot 8 to 15 moves later still amazes me. So many things to appreciate in really good play. It's frustrating too (but not really) as it looks easy and obvious but of course isn't. That's part of the appeal I think, the mystery ...and the fact that much of it has to do with getting at your own thinking and insight rather than the board and the pieces etc.

changes in my work have made it so I haven't been able to play much for the past year or so (though I don't think I've slid back too much from where a decent amount of effort has brought me). hopefully things will change before too long and I'll be able to play and study more. but for now I won't be able to participate that much.

too interesting not to at least read the club forum though. so, I'll see you all around.

all the best

Welcome back Todd....
Thanks for joining again and the nice words.Your always welcome in my club.Your help, comments and questions have been very valuable to me and has actually taught me how to proceed in another post idea from time to time.As you know Todd,I am not always the best at explaining what is circulating around in my mind or all my past experiences, but I do my best.I cannot always break down every little detail.Hey,this is a GK club, not some official chess training school!

As to that stationary Knight or Bishop on the board,well...if it is in the best centralized seat in the house, keep it there and push or squeeze my opponents pieces into the attacking squares of that piece!Hmmmmm...some brief food for thought!

See ya around in the club! And thanks for sticking by me.That is more important to me than you may realize.

Hi there

I was exploring around the site a little bit and found this club. I am mainly an over the board player, so you may not see much of me, but I recently decided to give correspondence chess a try. I am right at the 2100 mark though after my last tournament I may be a few points under that. From reading the description of the club, it sounds like it may give me some insight into becoming a master.. My USCF link is in my profile, and anything else feel free to ask. Thanks for accepting me into your club. I'll look at some of the other posts for more insight on what you have to offer

Welcome to the club Jeremy!
It is an honor to have you.I am a USCF Life Senior Master for many, many years.I have played both OTB and USCF corresp including the Golden Knights and the various prize and $$ tourneys such as the Victor Palciauskas prize tournaments, although that tourney was under a different name at the time.I do remain anonymous on this site for various reasons. But call me Joe,either way!

Corresp is of course very different than OTB.I would initially suggest....to play very aggressive openings as white, avoiding the common lines. As black, very solid defenses.I'm always seeking a player of the black side to engage me in one of my Trompowski games in the future.Keep me in mind!May I also suggest to you,to start directly challenging as many 2100+ players as you can.Sooner or later they will begin to accept your challenge. No use in keeping you at that 1773 rating!I'm know you are much stronger than that!

Any questions just ask....about my club or this site in general.Ask in the club or my messaging center.

Good luck in the club and on GK!

Glad this club is back
My name is Ron. I felt lost when the club went away again. That's history. There is so much information here and Joe has always provided us with the tools to get better. I'm playing a few more games in total now, than I'd like to be playing mostly due to tournaments. I also research past games looking for opponents. I will add to discussions when I can.

Hi Ron,
Welcome back.I look forward in seeing some of your posts as time goes on.Glad to help whenever I can.I have come and gone over the years, but plan to stay this time with my new life membership.Hopefully the club will grow with more members over time.I plan to add many more interesting posts over the next year.My responses slow down a bit in the summer, since I travel much, but I always get back to questions or comments one way or another, even if it is not right away.

Your game load is not bad at all.I'm really talking more about those over 50-150 gamers. That can hurt in unseen ways. Good luck and see you around in the club!

Thank you Joe
Ah much better than reading from a phone!

I tried reaching out to quite a few higher rated players when I first started, but I assumed since I haven't heard back that either I would not be taken seriously or they would think I was a cheater. Which is fine, I don't mind playing up to prove myself. I didn't start off being an expert in USCF so I totally don't mind putting the work in if that is what it is going to take.

The only limitations I have are with the number of games I am willing to take on at once. I work during the day, so I make moves often from my phone before work, during my lunch break, and after (and that's really if the position is not too complex). I was already punished in one game for moving too fast (which explains my loss) so I just now move at a pace I am comfortable with.

As for a Trompowski game, I'd love to play. It would be nice to start playing some masters here to get their perspective on my play and see where I am mentally. In fact, I'll play anyone here looking for an opponent (1 caveat: I will not play more than 10 games at a time, just what I can handle right now.) You don't need to be a certain rating, I know how difficult to get a game against tough competition. I think I have some limits set but if anyone wants to play me and cannot just send me a message.

Fun fact: I had a disappointing outing at the US Open this year. 4 wins 2 losses and 3 draws but the ratings I won/drew were pretty much lower than mine so it doesn't show any improvement. Won't drop a whole lot but I am going to lose a few points.
