Nalimov table bases
In post game analysis or ongoing diagram analysis this tablebase is my favorite. Many chess programs have these bases built into them for game analysis. But using this quick click nalimov from chessok when setting up 6 pieces or less to check for mates, draws, stalemates stands alone by itself and does not need a chess program and can be utilized as a quicker tool. There is another online Nav.tablebase but this one is designed better.

I've used this Nav a million times from chessok as a quick check endgame reference...so if you never used one,you may find using this one indispensable. Most players have this one,I admit, but there are still players out there that never seen or used one and I have no idea who has or does not have or used them in this club.

Of course the newest 7 piece Lomonosov endgame base is fantastic, but I have not seen a free version online anymore. If anyone does see a free 7 piece version, then put a link here that gives DIRECT access to that 7 man tablebase. In the meantime, the 6 man nalimov is still free and excellent and will cover 95% of most players needs.

Again, club members, the 6 piece Nalimov tablebase available for free in the first link above,is basically ingrained in most chess programs today. However, many club members do not have or want to use any kind of chess program. That is their choice.

But the Nalimov 6 piece is a definite "must have" essential tool for endgame study!!!!You can plug in up to any amount of pieces with a max limit of 6 pieces and get flawless results as to wins, draws, losses, stalemates or "unclear"end results. For puzzle solving it shines brightly.Inventing your own positions and then testing your mate abilities, then rechecking with the Nalimov is simply great. The Nalimov may give you a faster way to mate,10 different ways to mate or draw or even escape a loss that you "thought"was inevitable.

And remember...many chess trainers believe that endgame study should come before opening and middle game study.I do not always agree with that scenario, but it is still a good rule of thumb to follow, and the Nalimov base can help!

That 7 piece Lomonosov endgame base is,of course, the top of the line tablebase.I've seen mates in 100 using that tablebase! But it is not free and as far as I know, you
need to purchase the Aquarium interface or Houdini Aquarium. That is the problem for many players...its not cheap.I believe that one day it will be free.

In the meantime,6 piece endgame study is simply "good enough"for 95% of players needs as I mentioned above. No doubt,if they ever come up with an 8 piece endgame tablebase and perfect it,then the 7 piece will be free on the net.But I do not perceive an 8 piece tablebase for decades,if ever. The billions of calculations needed boggles the mind.
