![]() Its ok for YOU to never use conditional moves....that is your choice. However,if you tend to frown on others using conditionals, think they are wrong or even avoid players that you know ahead of time use conditionals....or you place conditional move users on your ignore list, then yes,you have a problem that needs to be addressed by a professional. In addition, just because someone is hiding their online status, placing them on an ignore list is,well, not normal: gameknot.com Read the bottom of his profile. So he must now ignore you because you hide your online status as an option permitted to any user by GK?Yes,a bit extreme, regardless of his age.Wisdom does not always improve with age. |

![]() Ha ha ha to the power of a grant number. |

![]() even if the default were "on," if a player did not want his status to be shown, the word or phrase used could be "off" or "status indicator turned off." Not that I really care if they say I am "hiding." I just don't know that it is a very accurate way to describe what a person is really doing. www.thesaurus.com a good assortment of alternatives. |

![]() Not completely sure, but I think that even with a player clicking on the hide status, when they are online and thinking about a move on that specific board,it still shows up as opponent connected, not connected when they leave...ect.So technically you cannot fully hide, even with the online status activated to hide oneself..Is this correct?Educate me on that! |

![]() If they are viewing the game, they can know if you are also viewing the game or if you have the analysis board open. BUT, when you are not viewing the game, you are simply "not connected." I assume this means that if they were to go to your profile page, even while you were looking at the game in question, they would not be able to know if you are online (if you are "hiding"). Not that they would check that way. so, if not on that game and not showing online status, they can't know you are online. if for some strategic reason you did not want an opponent to know you were considering a game, simply analyze it elsewhere. I tend to look at a move for such a long time that most of my opponents probably think I've fallen asleep ...though I suppose they could perhaps get a sense of my level of concern re a given position if they had a sense of my general patterns, ...by noticing I am spending longer looking at some moves than I had been at other points in the game for example. defeats some of the purpose of turning off the online status indicator I think. |

![]() Some of these newer features I am still a bit baffled with. Not that I am concerned, and I do analyze away from the board. But I still go on the board for a few seconds to see what my opponent moved. What my opponents do not know is that I use an OTB chess board to look at moves as I have for decades. My insight comes from 3D,not a computer screen...well,most of the time anyway.I usually have 5 or 6 boards set up in a locked room with those many opponents or less. Then I go back to the GK board, make a quick move and disengage from the board, returning to the club.If no club posts to read or none for me to post,I go offline. |

![]() No. Unchecking means YOU will not be notified. BUT, if he is not looking at the game between you and him, he will not know you are looking at it. In other words, if he is playing other games or otherwise not looking at YOUR game with him, he won't know if you are looking at it. This is not a matter of checking or unchecking. It is just a property of that feature, that a player has to be looking at a game for that feature to provide info (AND it only provides info on that one game). Different than the online-status light which notes if you are online when someone looks at your profile page. Also different in that the status light can be turned completely off whereas, with the new feature, there are certain things you can't prevent your opponent from seeing when you are looking at your game with him ON gk (as opposed to looking at it on a physical board in your house or on a gui on your computer). >>>Or is that to only update ME with chimes and telling me that my opponent made a move?<<< Right. And it can also tell you if he is looking at the game or if he has the analysis board open. |
