![]() Of course, everything was cheaper back then.A triple dip of ice cream was 30 cents and a candy bar was 5 cents.Kites were 15 cents and the string was 30 cents.Tasty cakes were 12-13 cents and soda was 25 cents for a quart and 6 to 8 cents for that pint size,or whatever that smaller size was.A bread loaf was 23 cents.Comic books were expensive....75 cents! And telephone booths were 5 cents to call until about 1967 when it went up to 10 cents.Postage stamps,I can remember being 5 cents, then 6 cents,8 cents then going higher and higher.Cereal boxes had metal toys in them at times, just like Cracker Jacks. And my local movie theater has a double flick for 1 dollar! If you were retired, you could get in for 75 cents! I watched the first Moon landing live,Apollo 11 in 1969 on my black and white TV live.Only had 3 channels back then....3,6 and 10.Some people placed a plastic color screen in front of their black and white TV to make it appear as color. The screen has shades of red, blue and green. And back during the 60's everyone has those aluminum Christmas tree's with a revolving color wheel. No computers,no cell phones, not even cordless phones till the early 70's. But those were the best of times for me.I call it the golden age. And even with "duck and cover"drills at school where the teacher made us duck under our school desks or go downstairs to the bomb shelter....never telling us,this might be for real one day if the Soviet Union sent nuclear missiles to the USA,during that so called cold war back then. Yes,the 1960's were the best.Simple, uncomplicated(for the kids anyway).Vietnam, had to later sign up for the draft, but never got called. And living in a real haunted house was an experience I try to forget. ![]() Absolutely true! The same teacher told the students that he allowed cheating, but do not let him catch you! Then you had two choices.Go to the office with your parents being called in or take that butt beating with the big wooden paddle(two or three smacks!)and he was a big guy with full swings! |
