Fake News and It's Origins
I have to say until President Trump came on the political scene I have never heard the term 'Fake News' before.

Then one day it occurred to me that fake news has been around a very very long time. Yesterday I read 2 Thessalonians chapter 2

1.Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, 2.that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 3.Let no one in any way deceive you!

Here we read mentioned the fake news letter said to be sent from Paul to the Church at Thessalonica. This deliberate misinformation was a deliberate attempt to mislead and concern people about a matter that had not happened at all. The bible has other incidents of false reports or fake news. The oldest being in Genesis

Can you find any more besides the one I have mentioned?

This is purely a fun project nothing else.

Fake news, huh? At first I thought I would not be able to come up anything, but suddenly it struck me – this. Does broken peace agreements count? They're fake.

You know, like all of those “Land for peace” deals which Israel has made with the Palestinians. Hasn't it become a joke. (Howbeit, a very bad one, no doubt) Israel kicks the Palestinians in the boxers – taking all of this land in the process. I especially appreciate the Six Day war. Where 4 or 5 Middle Eastern countries simultaneously surprise attack Israel. Israel knows they're being put in the cross-hairs, but nobody does anything to help. Wham! In spite of getting no outside assistance, they wipe their enemies out. So, these guys say, they will be nice if Israel gives back some of the land they lost. And each time, they get a knife in the back. Fake news!

One other one which strikes closer to home is this Federal Income tax. I once watched this video about how these guys went around the different IRS offices asking if they could see some laws or statutes which gave them the authority to levy taxes on our income. Nada. They couldn't find one IRS tax official who could show any laws governing their “right” to tax our income.

“The Creature from Jekyell Island” does a written expose on this Federal Reserve of “ours”. Big time “fake news”.

?? FYI the 16th Ammendment authorizes direct income taxes, and legal challenges have failed and are now considered frivolous. Local IRS offices do not have to waste time to explain that to tax protesters and I wouldn’t bother either if I worked there.

The claims that the tax isn’t legal and constitutional is itself fake news.

Fake news is simply a new term for a type of generated propaganda targeted to specific groups and is as old as history.

DM is somewhat right....
but "fake news" is becoming diluted with its overuse and misuse, much like the topic of "race" and racial issues.

Personally, I seem to mix media-bias with fake news whereas the definition of both seem ambiguous.

Origins of Fake News
Gents, This thread has nothing to do with modern day Fake News, the theme was on Fake News found in the bible. Can we keep off of politics for a change?

One thing that puzzles me to this day about fake news is now Laban was able to "fool" Jacob that Leah was Rachael! Are you kidding me? Come on. . .

Any insight on this would help me scratch off another mystery of the Bible.

Thanks in advance!

Rachel or Leah?
I have never had a problem with this. The way I understand it. Laban brought Leah in the dark of the evening and prepared Leah to lay in the darkness in Jacobs bed. Jacob then went to his bedroom and had relations in the dark with Leah not having any conversation and then in the morning realised it was not Racheal after all. Hope that helps.

LOL Yeah, I suppose if I were made to wait, how many years, I wouldn't have "inspected" the merchandise much either.

I didn't want a reaction. I don't believe Jesus committed blasphemy. But the Pharisees and such were trying to kill Jesus by saying he was a blasphemer.

So I think those Jews were saying Fake News.

How MSM makes stories believable
It is a fact of the that if we hear a story ( whatever its plausibility ) often enough we will begin to think it is true.

Since Trump has been elected all the MSM has been hammering on is about the so- called " Russian collusion"!

Most Americans now probably believe it.

It has just been revealed that the House Intel Committee has finished it's investigation and it's being reported that there is no evidence of collusion between the Russians and the Trump Campaign.

But many of us have known that for a couple of years now.

Do you have a link?

That is okay, Americans who care about the truth like you and myself have suspected there was "funny business" going on with this collusion stuff from the beginning.

Have you heard of www.skywatchtv.org? A great Christian news reporting website. Check them out. I like to watch their "5 to 10" show. It's on 5 days a week.

Another thing not being reported ( COUGH! ) is how Google and YouTube are setting up their algorithms to ignore information and websites which have conservative and Christian perspectives! YouTube has taken down many, many of these!

They say that it's about " hate speech", but what it's really about is censorship.

You can find skywatchtv on YouTube. Greg Gilbert is on the ball!

Let everyone here know what you think.

Shooting the Bull
Shooting The Bull, by Gun Facts author Guy Smith, teaches you to spot political lies in real time while exposing the long and lying history of the gun control industry (and it is an industry — just ask their former employee Barack Obama).

Shooting the Bull serves two purposes. First, it catalogs the common canards of politicians and activists. Readers will recognize how they have been psychologically scammed by special interests and deceived by elected sycophants. The second purpose of Shooting the Bull is to document the deceits peddled by the gun control lobby.

Each chapter is devoted to at least one major initiative proffered by anti-gun activists, exposing their falsities through dissection of their motives, methods and inconvenient facts.

"Drives a long, rusty nail into the coffin lid of the gun control industry.”

Forward to a book filled with the truth about guns and gun control.

Mass Shootings

Gun Control Myths ↓

Mass Shootings
There are two criminology definitions for public shootings, and they are very different:

Active Shooter Events (ASE): Where a person shoots at multiple people in public, though there may be no deaths. 1

Mass Public Shootings (MPS): Public shooting events where four or more people are killed. 2

Myth: Mass public shootings are increasing
MASS SHOOTINGS - Mass Public Shootings 1976 through 2011Fact: Over a 35-year period, the number of mass public shootings rose during the violence escalation decades of the 1970s and 1980, then leveled off, despite a growing population and greater availability for firearms (more people, more guns).

Special Note: The FBI created a study of what they labeled “active shooter” events from 2000-2013, but they merged both ASEs and MPSs. Combined, this data shows an increase whereas other studies that separate the two do not. But it must be noted that their study starts in the year 2000, which had an abnormally low number of public shootings (only one). 3

Myth: More people are dying in mass public shootings
MASS SHOOTINGS - Mass Public Shootings - Incidents and Deaths per capita - 1976 through 2011Fact: Though the raw number of mass public shootings has risen slightly over three decades, the number of people killed has fallen as a function of the population.

Fact: Mass public shooting deaths make up less than 1% of all gun homicides, making them a small part of the problem.

Myth: America has the highest rate of mass shootings in developed countries
MASS SHOOTINGS - Mass Shooting Deaths and Victims in Developed CountriesFact: On a per population basis, the United States ranks fourth behind three European countries 4 or eighth when a broader set of non-conflict countries are examined. 5

Myth: Easy access to guns creates an incentive for mass public shootings
Fact: At least 61% of mass public shooters showed signs of mental instability in the days, weeks or months before their massacres. 6 The rate might be higher because privacy laws prevent fully exploring the mental health history of some killers. Mental health is the determinant variable.

Myth: Guns in civilian hands are not good for stopping mass public shooters
Fact: One study shows that armed citizens responding to rampage killers result in 1/8th the number of casualties than when police intervene. 7 In other words, waiting on the police results in eight times as many people deaths and injuries.

Understanding conflicting reports on “mass public shootings”
There are several different studies concerning mass public shootings, which make different claims. The primary points of confusion come from:

How the counting of such shootings is done
How they define “mass public shooting”
Here are some of the studies that are circulated and critiques of them.

Mother Jones 8
This magazine report used media reports of mass shootings, which may not cover all such shootings and which lack criminological objectivity.
There appear to be some arbitrary omissions of events that do not fit their definition of a public shooting.
They only count “lone gunmen” events, and never the more common inner-city, gang-related multi-shooter episodes.
They include terrorist activities, such as the Fort Hood massacre.
Mother Jones concluded that mass shootings occur more frequently than several decades ago, and that the mass public shooting rate tripled since 2011.

James Alan Fox, Northeastern University criminologist 9
Based on police reports, which are uniform and comprehensive.
Includes all mass shootings, including those not in public, which defies the idea of a mass public shooting.
Concluded that mass shooting rates remain relatively stable over time.

Grant Duwe, Minnesota Department of Corrections, criminologist 10
Uses FBI Supplementary Homicide Reports for the core list, then media reports to provide details.
Includes only public events.
Excludes events related to other crimes (such as robberies gone wrong).
Concludes that mass public shootings declined from 1999 to 2011, then spiked in 2012 (the year of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting), then returned to the mean of previous years.

The one thing all of the studies agree upon is that
mass public shootings are statistically rare

Notes:

“One or more persons engaged in killing or attempting to kill multiple people in an area (or areas) occupied by multiple unrelated individuals. At least one of the victims must be unrelated to the shooter. The primary motive appears to be mass murder; that is the shooting is not a by-product of an attempt to commit another crime.” United States Active Shooter Events from 2000 to 2010, School of Criminal Justice, Texas State University, 2014 – published by the Federal Bureau of Investigation ↩
