I was so busy with American Idol and The Voice that I had very little time to be online for several months. That kind of thing will happen when The Voice is back on and starts another season. After that was vacation and fishing. But, I have annotated the 4th game and was my Semi Finals for the last tournament which I won for the first time in a while. gameknot.com It's worth noting that what I kept in mind was a chess problem from GM Judit Polgar, way back when, plus a more recent training game between brigadecommander and one of her students to mate Carl in the exact same way which was with a Q sac on the back rank.

In fact, I visualized this mate for 4 or 5. But, unlike before I calculated in between the moves, as recommended by cplusplus11 and Ken to prevent blunders.

Joe...
... That was quite an interesting game to play through. I have made several comments, and offered some analyses here and there throughout.

This was my closing comment:
"Time management is a skill that is a part of chess, to be sure; but so is the ability to play well under the pressure of time constraints. This game is quite a good illustration of what can be missed if one plays too superficially - which is the product of playing more quickly than necessary. Black secured an early advantage but on many occasions pressed too hard, paying too little attention to the opportunities of counter-play that he offered to his opponent; on others not hard enough, offering his opponent time to sort out his problems. Joe does pick up on at least some of these occasions in his notes; that's good. That his opponent by and large failed to discover and to exploit these chances probably explains Jack's wrath, but I agree with nuntar: a whole flock of bellowing ain't gonna help a whole lot.

I'd recommend, here, that Joe and Carl do together a post-mortem of this game, play it through as if it were a game in progress, during which they explore my own analyses (see if there are any improvements, variations or mistakes in them - but take note of the opportunities they represent). See the possibilities that richly abounded in this game. Maybe think about how one might learn more often to spot - and evaluate - such chances when they arise."

Good idea!
I agree with Ion!

I have read and like Charles comments, and as usual, ION's. I agree that it's a good idea, but I don't think it'll be possible to do. Right now, you won't believe this, but another tournament began last Friday. When that's over, I'll try by saying something about it. But, I've learned that, in general, games after that particular week are usually forgotten about because there's so much chess per week. We're talking about 2 or 3 games as a more casual starts after a tournament game.

For example, there were a few games that I had to adjourn with Master Nathan Resika. And, he wanted to continue the following. So, he tried to taking a picture of the position on his app. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way, and the game was, still, forgotten about.

Right after that game, came this one. And, it was the Semi Finals for the tournament, but the Finale for me. gameknot.com As this is where I won the entire thing and became the champion for the last tourney.

So, as noted above just with an example, which was that another tournament started on Friday. Now, I'll be there again this Friday, but I won't be there the following week. When that kind of thing happens, Jack mandates that I play a tournament game that week. And, it's with the person who I didn't play with the week prior. So, from experience, it's more then safe to infer that I'll be against Carl. The only way that would change is if Carl can't make which is very unlikely.

So, I have annotated the first tournament game, which I have won, just to bring this up to date. gameknot.com And, what I remembered is, exactly, where I went wrong against anitam during either the second or third year after I joined GK. To be exact it was very shortly, about a month, after I first joined the very team that I'm, currently, captain of.

And, before annotating for ION's analysis, other members on the team were analyzing that game. So, this was significant because, likewise, I got an advantage against my opponent and wasn't far from making a mistake, for the exact same reason, that would've equalized, followed by, another that would've given him the edge, instead.

I just annotated the second tournament game which was over 60 moves. And, it's the first time in Jack's tournaments that a tournament game has ended in a draw. gameknot.com

Interesting game
I left a few comments Joe

I'm very tempted...
... to examine this ending in one of my club endgame tutorials. Joe's game was educational as well as interesting. I have had a couple of 'bishop of opposite colour' endings recently, against strong opponents - drawing one and losing the other (a 90-odd move marathon, but we each had an extra rook). I have also a very nice Mestel vs Tal end game from 1982 with the same feature.

Might be interesting to run a series. I'll think about it.

I think it would be, ION. As it's got to be similar to the game that you saw. And, I read your comments Jeremy and liked it. Yeah, I was at a Dental Appointment, but I'll be back in Jack's club again, next week. Interestingly enough, there was a different game that I was going to annotate being a Q odd game with Master Nathan Resika, but my notation was a little too corrupt, this time around which is to expected when you talk about Q odds and not just R odds. That game also ended in a draw which means that I had a draw against a very strong master.

Pity about the Queen odds...

It would've been. But, I have a different game. The tournament has been paused, but I believe, will resume this Friday. In the meantime, I annotated a different game at the request of nathanman22 in the Chess Forum. gameknot.com

Well, it appears that the tournament for Jack's club are history. It initially started off with several students against each other: Mariann, Perry, Ted, Tom Walsh, Carl, and me. Then, Mariann and Perry left the club upon losing the games. Ted stayed in the club but said that he wouldn't compete in any more tournament which left Tom, Carl, and me. Earlier today, however, I found that Tom announced that he'll no longer compete in the tournaments for the same reason. So, just two participants is not enough. Having said that, I came across another game from GM Susan Polgar. This time, it wasn't annotated, but I decided to annotate it, and she showed another game which I'll annotate, in the future.

As there was a similarity to this game and a tournament game that someone that I didn't like, "reversion" had me annotate. Although, I agree on one thing which is that there was plenty to learn from it. The similarity here is also something that he mentioned in that other game. I didn't see a single mistake or inaccuracy, and yet, someone outplayed the other. gameknot.com

I've got the second game that GM Susan Polgar showed to her viewers. gameknot.com However, it's important to note that she didn't add comments to this game. She just showed it, but I annotated it. And, this is the last game of the tournament that she showed, and none of these players won the tournament.

This one started in charleshiggie most recent chess puzzle. I was looking for the puzzle that he posted in his recent annotation and found it. But, I came across the most recent one first. gameknot.com And, it's the second time that one of my annotations started with someones chess puzzle which I solved. The first time was with reversion. Similar to the first one, Charles showed the game and the moves that led to the mating sequence.

Chicoboy's Legacy Club
I have a new annotation. gameknot.com This game was played between 2 mods, redfoxrising and brigadecommander in Chicoboy's Legacy club. This time, I didn't have to speculate because my annotation, the notes, were, solely based on the posts, as that was, what went into the moves. That is, why the moves were played. BTW, I was thinking of annotating the game, but Ron requesting it is what made this annotation definite.

Also, there is a consultation match going between my team and another. When each game ends, I'll annotate it, as that way, ION and others who aren't in it will get a piece of the action, as well.

13-Sep-19, 15:48

In the meantime, although she did not annotate any of them, GM Susan Polgar showed her viewers 4 additional games, on June 29th between Carlsen and Ding in a tournament for the sinquefield cup playoff. Carlsen, for the first time since becoming a champion lost this playoff. The first two games ended in a draw, so the last 2 were blitz which he lost. This was the very first game. gameknot.com And, similar to Eric's annotation between ION and fiercequeen in, "Let's give them something to talk about", I had some of those, "boring" moments for me. But, being bored was even more of a reason for me to continue as I knew how much more there really was to learn. When this happened, instead of explaining anything about the moves played, I explained what I'd do that during the boring phase. And, then what happened when I had that with Jack, offered a draw, had it declined, and then, went on to lose. I think in the future, when we I'll mention when I get into that and then continue with same, or same old same old since I wouldn't know what else to add.

This is the second out of 4 games that Susan showed. gameknot.com So, this was the last that ended in a draw. After that, there were 2 blitz games that Carlsen lost which is how Ding won the Sinquefield Cup.

I'm holding off on the rest of the games that Susan showed, for now. First, my student, Erika asked me to annotate this game which I did. gameknot.com And, before I resume, I'll be annotating a couple of games from kenneth_fiore_3 in honor of him. In fact, I started with the honor in this annotation because in our second training game, he said that I needed to work on accessing the position better. So, I when Erika's opponent had his very last chance at a draw, I looked at a long term variation that would've done it with the fen. I'm familiar with these kind of endgames.

23-Sep-19, 17:01

This is the first of 2 games that I'm annotating, in Ken's honor. gameknot.com When a little more time allows, I'll be looking for a much longer game, where I'm not familiar with the opening, and that Ken won or had a very good game. And, I will annotate that.
baddeeds
26-Sep-19, 17:58

So, my last annotation was the first game. But, this was the second and what I call the real deal. gameknot.com I was more limited then I thought because I couldn't access games from Ken's past game history. I didn't realize this, but after an extended period of inactivity all games over a year are deleted. And, all of kenneth_fiore_3's games were over a year ago. But, I found what I was looking for by clicking on his past team games, from what team he was on and came across the game above.

Now, this game had the Nimzovich_Larsen Attack which was named after GM Larsen as Charles mentioned in a previous annotation, which I forgotten. Little did Charles realize that Ken played it against GM Larsen, himself in, I presume, a training session or two. And, Larsen was very impressed. Well, the only time I, back then, remembered seeing this before was when my student, Erika, played against it. And, I was overly critical of the opponent, as ION recalls.

At that point, Ken was no longer commenting on annotations due to his health. But, it's my belief that he was still reading various annotations. That was, due to his suggestion that I study unfamiliar openings at professional level to prevent continual problems. With that being said, if things got better, not only would've Ken stayed in my mini tournament. But, I believe that he would've wanted another training game with me as white, where I'd be playing against the Nimzovich_Larsen Attack. As sad as it is, I believe that Ken knew what was going on and what would happen. So, to continue he wanted me to study more openings like this to see how experts and above do things which I did, in his honor.

In fact, I have inserted 4 annotations in this one so that people pretty know, virtually, my entire history with Ken. Of course, one or two were PM's, but all of them are public as they are now part of the annotation.
