Yes, that is how a lot of my thinking also runs. Although, I think I do it a little too much which is also why I sometimes misjudge on when we should exchange or not. Nowadays, I sometimes try to refrain on exchanging too much since I don't like. Judgement calls do involve tactics as well, and I saw that a couple of months earlier against Master Nathan Resika in this WTW game. gameknot.com

Well, here's another annotation. gameknot.com And, it might not be the only reason, but I feel like the main reason I played so better in this game then other games is because I had adequate sleep the night before. Ironically, I did this to avoid being fired for sleeping on the job.

Well, it's been a while, over 2 weeks since I was in Jack's club. One reason was change of work schedule. Just as importantly, since I'm with seniors was getting the flu, even with a vaccine. Yikes, I had to miss 2 days of work, after having had to miss a day due to a bad cold. But, with any symptoms even during the end of a cold, I don't go. As I base it on health department rules because you don't want to chance a senior getting sick. Otherwise, I might have considered going. So, without a tournament game, I was not far from trying to annotate a game that Janet showed at Chicoboy Legacies Club which ION knows about to. But then, however, GM Susan Polgar posted a game on her blogspot with a game about the Women's World Championship. This game turned it into a tie break so that it would be down to quick blitz, and I don't know who won. Susan did not annotate the game, however. She just showed it, but when she does, I then, find it important to annotate. As it's really, as I noted earlier today about understanding the position. So, with her posts there's plenty to understand. It was between GM's Goryachikna and Ju. Well, Goryachikna won in a very similar way to how charleshiggie won against brigadecommander in the realjimfrior's tournament game which was by exposing the opponents K. And, she did it similarly. So, I also posted that annotation in this new one, and this was that special game between the GM's. gameknot.com In addition, a while back, Susan posted a different game which is shorter in her blogspot that I'm determined to find.
|
|
I found that other game that Susan's showing, and it's a matter of time before I annotate it. It's not if but when. But, I found out that Ju maintained the women's world champion title, but GM Goryachikna put up an excellent fight.

Black lost the game.
What move did black go wrong ? I believe it was in the opening.
|
|
Move 27.
Had Black instead played 27...Qc3, he could have held the game. This was my comment: "I can imagine that permitting the exchange of queens would have seemed counter-intuitive, leaving Black with the only piece on the board. But it so happens that White could not have exchanged queens - not safely anyhow: 27...Qc3! 28.exf8=Qch Kxf8 29.Qe2 ... (Not 29.Qxc3?? bxc3 30.Be4 a4, and the bishop can not stop both of Black's running pawns) 29...b3, and Black's two flank passers are well worth the bishop." So (in my view) 27...Qc3 was good for the draw - or at least very good drawing chances - if White dodged the Q-exchange; good for the win if White exchanged queens!

after 20.Bxd6
Black will win if 20...Qxd6 instead of ...exd6
|
|
Maybe
Maybe - I was afraid of 20....Qxd6 21. Nxb7 Q moves 22. d5-d6 + followed by 23. d6xe7 but maybe black has defences?
|
|
Black wins
If 21.Nxb7. Would you like to play ? I play black and you play white.

Black to play and win !
Please check the chess position I presented in my previous message. Can anyone in this club solve it ? I want to see if anyone can refute me that it is wrong for black to win the game.
|
|
To prevent discovered check and block the advancement of white pawn d5 to d6.
Why Black should move 20...Qxd6 instead of ...exd6
|
|
My comment...
... at move 20 ran: "He could have taken 20...Qxd6 instead [see diagram 3 postings back], and this ... might ... have been the sequel: 21.Nxb7 Rxc1! 22.Nxd6?? (of course, 22.Rxc1 is the right move, but Black seems to be doing fine after 22...Qe5 23.Nxa5 Qxb2) 22...Rxe1ch 23.Bf1 Bh3. OK, not really a Q-sac." It is clear that after 21...Rxc1, White loses quickly after 22.Nxd6. Now, I didn't examine 22.Rxc1 all that closely, though clearly it is White's best response. Then comes 22...Qe5. Now what for White? I suggested 23.Nxa5 Qxb2 and at that point figured that Black was fine. I didn't express it more positively than that, but here I will say that in the following 'presque-ending' (I would prefer to have the Black pieces (open board, bishop pair, remoter pawn). I would hesitate to call it 'winning' for Black, though. Not yet. An edge, yes. Has White a better move than 23.Nxa5, then? Possibly 23.d6ch, but after 23...Be6, Black will pick up the pawn. That does not look good for White. I don't see anything else. I won't take up the 'challenge' offered by ace-of-aces (I'm not sure to whom it was addressed, anyhow). Whatever the result, I don't imagine we'd learn very much from it.

Everybody including AP who do not believe that Black to play and wins from the position that I mentioned can take part in it. I wonder, can charleshiggie and jkarp join and play with AP in the following position that AP mentioned in his comments. 21.Nxb7, Rxc1 22.Rxc1, Qe5 23.Nxa5, Qxb2 Let us play this position.

Not interested.
My main reason is that given a list of at least 3 small advantages that I've mentioned earlier, Black would certainly have the edge and the easier game. Black may well win from here with best play by both sides. But suppose that after another 10 or 15 moves Black obtains position we all agree on inspection is winning. Does that mean it's winning here? I would argue no, but I can well imagine others taking the opposing view. White would certainly have to defend, and have to play more accurately than Black. It would be a thankless task even were I playing it in an actual game. A sense of satisfaction were I to pull off the draw, perhaps. But otherwise, not much fun. Not for me.

Personally, I would do it, Joe for learning. But, for me the issue is time management. I reckon that it would be a good way to improve, but I've got things that take precedence, especially with, as noted in my club about staying on the same bed time schedule. And, that's factored in with missed TV shows that I watch on demand, and annotations, whether I comment on or annotate. So, time is generally speaking, not on my side. I'd say that, perhaps, at a later point in time, maybe, when all of the series I watch have reached their season finale, I'd probably have time. But, I don't believe that this will happen until, perhaps, late May or early June.

|
Having said that, when time allows me to do so, I'll comment on your annotation. So, I'd, hopefully, be able to start commenting tomorrow. In the meantime, I just annotated a game. Time just needed to allow it, but this happened today. It's the other game that GM Susan Polgar showed her viewers, where Topalov was defeated by a young player. And, I believe that the person who defeated him was a student of Susan's at Spice Program. gameknot.com

archduke_piccolo is correct.
After some analysis, I found out that with accurate play by white, black can only play for a draw in the last position. Thank you AP for your comments. I therefore cancel to play it again.

another annotation!

I think you should check the link. It seems to lead to an empty game.

Many thanks!
Many thanks - does this work now? gameknot.com

Yes, everything is fine now

Not sure exactly when, but hopefully, sooner then later, I'll comment on your game, Charles since it's a long one. But, my main student, Erika, just annotated another game. gameknot.com

I commented in your newer game, Charles. But, I still need time for other since it's longer.

Ok many thanks

A note...
As I have received notice from GK that 2 more of my annotations have been taken down due to user reports, and one more is pending investigation, I've decided that I will not be doing any more annotations on this site. Furthermore, the annotations I currently have will be going private as of today, so if any of you would like to see them, please feel free. I wish people would message me if they found something offensive so I could just remove it myself from the annotations rather than involve the site admins, but what's done is done. I accept my role and the decision that was made.

Very sorry to hear that

teardrop34...
Has GK offered any information as to the substance of the complaint? I've seen the games you have annotated - or some of them at least - and don't recall anything to which a reasonable person would object. Maybe I missed something...?

Query...
I looked up the annotations, as I do from time to time, and find none posted since 20 February - some three weeks ago. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there an explanation?
