I took note of it. Well, without going into details because of GK rules, I was not allowed to join that club. For a very different reason, however, I wouldn't have joined, anyway because my only focus is becoming a better chess player which is, believe it or not, why I reopened my club, Chess Coaches and Mentors when deeper_insight went on leave. But, I feel bad for all of the people that were members of and enjoyed that club. And, I am interested as to why that club was closed down.

Suprised
I am surprised that is has been deleted. I am also curious as to what happened?

It was disappointing as it was a good club. There was a lot of heated discussion of politics and I suspect that may have been the reason but I had no confirmation from stal on that hypothesis so it is still a mystery.

It doesn't seem in stal's nature to simmply shut down the club without warning, given that there were some nice team games going on and some quality content contributed by many members. So I imagine whatever caused it was quite severe to warrant such an action.

How life imitates chess
www.amazon.com
That is, what former world chess champion said but life is more complicated than chess. In this age of globalization, the world becomes much smaller. You may live on the other side of the world, but with the advanced technology rendered by the internet, we can communicate and play chess almost instantly. clashofpawns is correct that we have a heated discussion in that club. According to Kasparov, if we can play chess well and peacefully, our daily lives should be much better and improved but you are comparing apples and oranges. Besides, life is more complicated than chess, I presume. So, we should concentrate our energy on chess alone to promote friendship, love and respect to each other.

Interesting. I have a different hypothesis, based on what happened with a club that I was in called, "The Deeper Chess Theory Club". Although that club went back and forth with being opened. For example, it was called, I believe, at one point, The Elite Pawn Chess Club, if I'm not mistaken which closed. Although there was a good reason. When things settled, TA opened up a club, but it was called, "The Deeper Chess Theory Club." Just like what was mentioned with Fiat Flux, it closed, and no explanation was posted. However, the main reason for that club closing down was deeper_insight going on tour, not having enough time to moderate the club, etc. But, in a forum, Joe mentioned that another reason for closing the club down was the lack of participation. And, that is my hypothesis with the Fiat Flux, believe it or not. One of the things I read from stalhandske was the future of that club and discussion about whether to close that club or not. What he mentioned was that there was not enough participation in that club. Now, it stayed opened for a while because that's what brigadecommander. But, I believe that enough was enough for him and the lack of participation is what did it. However, even combined with, perhaps, what you mentioned about politics, religion, and argument might have done it, clashofpawns because it could've been a chain of events (domino effect.)

Well it was fun while it lasted and the activity will migrate somewhere. Perhaps this club.

I now know why that stalhandske closed the club down, as a matter of fact. It's coincidental that I know this because I continued your thread on Memory V Understanding, clash of pawns in this club. That happened on January 8th, and I posted the link to your thread. As a result, I could go back to the link and the entire. Long and behold, I figured out why that club was deleted. And, the reason is what was discussed in the future of Fiat Flux with the last posts which was just before that club was deleted as the very last post was less then 2 days ago.

Interesting. Am I correct in assuming it costs money yearly for clubs to be active?

It does. The cost is $19.95 per year for the annual club fee.

cognitive dissonance, where did I read that last?
"sour said the fox about the rowan berries"

Rather than admit his failure to reach the grapes, the fox rationalises that they are not really desirable. The story illustrates the state of cognitive dissonance. The fox is taken as attempting to hold incompatible ideas simultaneously, desire and its frustration. In that case, the disdain expressed by the fox at the conclusion to the fable serves at least to reduce the dissonance through criticism.

I have a Mountain Ash tree in the garden. Having attained the Rowan berries, I still think they're sour. You can make a jelly with them but that's about it.

Obviously this is not intended as the extension of any similes, just a botanical observation.

As one of the two Founders of Fiat Lux, I would just like to humbly remind the readers that that was the name of the Club, not Fiat Flux which sounds more like a diarrhea of the proposer.

It's time that I revisited. I was wondering why it closed down but wasn't super upset. However, I know that others were really upset. Well, I am writing to inform everyone that the Fiat Lux club is back with a vengeance. gameknot.com
