"This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law."

"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?"

(1 Corinthians 1:18-20)

"But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

That no flesh should glory in his presence."

Sad that I don't know a favorite
I listen to the word and believe in my faith, I pray for world peace, and for our Election, I believe God is love, I'm a loving person, I help the poor. I'm in God's hands, I've fallen asleep reading the Bible. I do pray the Rosary. I believe in the Catholic Church. I'm human and a sinner. I confess my sins at church as a group when at mass and also go to reconciliation (confession).

@redfoxrising
I'm not really sure what the Catholic Church teaches (I'm a Protestant,) but I believe If someone accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, they're saved forever. I also think the only requirement for salvation, or to "get right" with God, is found in John 3:16 and/or Romans 10:9 (the two verses are very similar.)

Some Christians think a believer can lose their salvation, but I don't think that view can be supported by what's in the Holy Bible.

I also don't believe salvation requires good works (good works, imo, are often a consequence, or byproduct, of being saved, but not a requirement for it.)

Will post some verses for why I believe in unconditional salvation and why good works aren't necessary for it in the next few days. The verses I'm thinking of are quite beautiful.

One of many beautiful verses in the New Testament that tells me once you have salvation, you never lose it:

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

(Romans 8:38-39)

Here's another passage from the New Testament that tells me salvation can never be lost:

"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.

I and my Father are one."

Matthew 6:19-21
"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

1 Samuel 16:7
"But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart."

You got that right.

Proverbs Chapter 2
My son, if you receive my words and treasure my commands within you,
So that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding;
Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding,
If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures;
Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.
For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding;
He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly;
He guards the paths of justice, and preserves the way of His saints.
Then you will understand righteousness and justice, equity and every good path.
When wisdom enters your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul.
Discretion will preserve you; understanding will keep you,
To deliver you from the way of evil, from the man who speaks perverse things,
From those who leave the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness;
Who rejoice in doing evil, and delight in the perversity of the wicked;
Whose ways are crooked, and who are devious in their paths;
To deliver you from the immoral woman, from the seductress who flatters with her words,
Who forsakes the companion of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God.
For her house leads down to death, and her paths to the dead;
None who go to her return, nor do they regain the paths of life-
So you may walk in the way of goodness, and keep to the paths of righteousness.
For the upright will dwell in the land, and the blameless will remain in it;
But the wicked will be cut off from the earth , and the unfaithful will be uprooted from it.

Great chapter. I ought to read Proverbs more often. One of the leaders of a Bible study group I used to attend said the 31 chapters in the Book of Proverbs were handy in that a chapter could be read with the corresponding day of the month.

I like
The Bible best 'cause it explains all of life & its conditions in no-uncertain terms. It's my most favorite book in the wide world. Me and The Bible is like peas-n-carrots. And that's all I've got to say about me and God.

The Holy Bible's still relevant today because the nature of man hasn't changed in 2,000 years.

Second Thessalonians 3:10-12 “For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.”

Hello to all fellow Club members.

My very favorite scripture is, from the original KJV: Thy Word have I hid in mine heart that I might not sin against Thee. Psalms 119:11

I never seemed to measure up to Chapter 31 of the Book of Proverbs.   As an example: "She riseth also while it is yet night". v15.

Great quotes, Shirley
*side note*

You are rapidly going to find that henny and myself do not measure up to any biblical standards and are the proverbial sinners of this fine group.

@shirlmygirl
That's a great one, Shirley.

I also like one that's somewhat similar and in the same chapter:

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."

(Psalm 119:105)

I agree. That is another favorite of mine.   I shall be contradicting you on one of your statements, perhaps tomorrow. I am a great contradicter, if there is such a word.
