I wasn't a believer until I was 40 years old. I considered myself an atheist before that time. I picked up the Bible some time after I became an adult and began to read. When I read that a person lived to be 800 years old or more, I said to myself, "how ridiculous", put the Bible down and didn't pick it up again for years. Was not interested.

Very true, Andrew.

Quote: "Is it really that easy? Could someone who had never heard of Jesus Christ come to salvation so quickly?"

No, I don't think so. I think that a lot of people who are introduced to Christ this way, are the seed that fell on stony ground.

@Shirley
Thanks for reply. Very glad you're here.

"Stony ground" refers to a great parable that I should have posted in here a while ago. Will post it tomorrow as my cell phone battery's almost out.

It has been an interesting discussion, and a very good Bible study.

I meant to write you many months ago regarding your extraordinary kindness toward player tennesseehiker. That man has endured incredible pain that he openly expressed and you were always there for him with a kind word of encouragement. That was very generous of you. I often thought of Jim throughout the course of any given day, hoping his pain would become manageable. Just wanted to give you a proper, Thank You, for letting him know that he has a friend.

"Stony ground" parable
Great parable, full of wisdom and truth...

"And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land.

And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine,

Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:

And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:

But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.

And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.

And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.

And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?

The sower soweth the word.

And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;

And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.

And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,

And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?"

(Mark 4:1-21)

Thank you, Jack, for your kind words. I do not know what has happened with Jim, (tennesseehiker). He hasn't posted on his Bible Club for 5 months, and he has no games. He timed out many games in July, and his last game timed out August 4. He may be in a deep depression - he is bi-polar, or I am afraid that he has died. I thought it was very courageous of him to start the Bible Club. He was very active at first, and made many posts. The Club hasn't been very active lately. I seem to be the one who makes the most posts.

I want to assure Jack that I know he is not sinning in the ways he said he was.

@Shirley
Just checked out Jim's profile page and regret our paths didn't cross. I could learn a lot from him. He obviously has a tremendous amount of faith and strong relationship with the Lord. The verses from Romans he posted are really wonderful.

Don't think he has passed. Hope he returns to GK soon and let's you know how he's doing.

If you hear from him, please let us know.

John 8:7 (KJV)

'So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her."

@Shirley
Do you think I ought to try to reach him?
shirlmygirl

You can certainly try, Andrew. I haven't sent him another private message for a while. It is too bad his status is silent, otherwise we could get some clue about him.

I hate to be grim but i assume the worst at this point. We should be closer with each other so we know what happens.

All the better to make fun of you with, my dear.

I tried to phone tennesseehiker today, at Andrew's suggestion. There was a business link on his profile page, Andrew had noticed. He thought it would be a good idea if I tried to phone Jim, as Andrew doesn't know him. It was a business phone, and as of now, there has been no response to my call, even though it appeared from the business site that there were other workers there.
andrew983

I wouldn't assume the worst without evidence to back it up.

But what we infer as the "worst" is paradise for Jim so I'm not sure we're even characterizing best and worst correctly.

How true that is.

28-Nov-16, 20:00

Wish I had gotten to know him. Maybe I still will. You've got to have a tremendous amount of faith to go through what he's gone through and remain as close as he has to the Lord.

I'll give credit for that distinction any day

28-Nov-16, 20:02

Was this meant for me, Winslow, or did you intend to put it on another thread?

"All the better to make fun of you with, my dear".

I was making fun of myself and the concept of allowing another to know oneself.

Not personal. I like you.
shirlmygirl
28-Nov-16, 20:09

I didn't take offense because I didn't think it was meant for me. If I had thought it was, I might have been puzzled as to what you meant.

The message on tennesseehiker's profile is quite amazing. He writes about what it is like to go through these depressed and manic phases. I hadn't read that until today. I had read his testimony on the Bible Club, and added my own.

He did, Isaac. Don't be cruel. He suffers.

I wasn't being cruel. He may have sung it, but not for us.
