FLAWS WITH THEORY OF EVOLUTION
Interesting article from 2015.

Excerpts:

"It seems that almost on a daily basis, we find the news media quoting evolutionary scientists declaring that materialist accounts of biological and chemical evolution are 'fact.' Students who take college-preparatory or college-level courses on evolution are warned that doubting Darwinism is tantamount to committing intellectual suicide -- you might as well proclaim the Earth is flat. Such bullying is enough to convince many that it's much easier on your academic standing, your career, and your reputation to just buy into Darwinism. The few holdouts who remain are intimidated into silence."

"...(T)here are numerous legitimate scientific challenges to core tenets of Darwinian theory, as well as predominant theories of chemical evolution. Those who harbor doubts about Darwinism need not be terrified by academic bullies who pretend there is no scientific debate to be had."

BTW, I'm not suggesting the numerous flaws with the theory of evolution that were identified in this article "disprove" the theory; only that they pose significant challenges to it from a scientific basis.

Unfortunately, too many scientists have a closed mind regarding Darwin's theory and believe it's "settled science" when it's not. Not by a long shot, imo.

One GK member who fancies himself a scientist (though I don't think he is one in real life) made the absurd claim last year that Darwin's theory "has been without chink or blemish for 150 years," a ridiculous assertion that several other evolutionists on here concurred with.

Why the reluctance to critically examine Darwin's theory from a scientific standpoint? Why the hostility to anyone who questions the theory?

An intellectual once said the theory of evolution amounts to a religion for many atheists. I think that's a pretty accurate statement.

Was being too conciliatory :)
Truth is, if the flaws identified in that article haven't or can't be refuted, I'd say Darwin's theory pretty much collapses.

I'll check out over the next few weeks whether refutations exist to the most important flaws, though they all seem pretty significant.

Interesting...
That Darwinists respond to legitimate questions and challenges to the theory of evolution by attacking God.

Remember: For many atheists, the theory of evolution is their religion.

This is a long Psalm, but it's always been one of my favorites:

"Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.

The LORD shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.

The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.

Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.

A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.

For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the LORD upholdeth the righteous.

The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.

They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.

The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth.

For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.

Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.

I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.

Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.

For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.

The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.

The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.

The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.

The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.

Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.

I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree.

Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.

Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.

But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.

But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble.

And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.

(Psalm 37)

Problems with the theory of evolution go well beyond - well, well beyond - a failure to explain how life first appeared on earth.

One of many points from the article in initial post:

"According to evolutionary biologists, once life got started, Darwinian evolution took over and eventually produced the grand diversity we observe today. Under the standard view, a process of random mutation and natural selection built life's vast complexity one small mutational step at a time. All of life's complex features, of course, are thought to be encoded in the DNA of living organisms. Building new features thus requires generating new information in the genetic code of DNA. Can the necessary information be generated in the undirected, step-by-step manner required by Darwin's theory?

Most everyone agrees that Darwinian evolution tends to work well when each small step along an evolutionary pathway provides some survival advantage. Darwin-critic Michael Behe notes that 'I f only one mutation is needed to confer some ability then Darwinian evolution has little problem finding it.'24 However, when multiple mutations must be present simultaneously to gain a functional advantage, Darwinian evolution gets stuck. As Behe explains, 'If more than one [mutation] is needed, the probability of getting all the right ones grows exponentially worse.'25

Behe, a professor of biochemistry at Lehigh University, coined the term 'irreducible complexity' to describe systems which require many parts -- and thus many mutations -- to be present -- all at once -- before providing any survival advantage to the organism. According to Behe, such systems cannot evolve in the step-by-step fashion required by Darwinian evolution. As a result, he maintains that random mutation and unguided natural selection cannot generate the genetic information required to produce irreducibly complex structures. Too many simultaneous mutations would be required -- an event which is highly unlikely to occur.

Observation of this problem is not limited to Darwin-critics. A paper by a prominent evolutionary biologist in the prestigious journal Proceedings of the U.S. National Academy of Science. acknowledges that 'simultaneous emergence of all components of a system is implausible.'26 Likewise, University of Chicago evolutionary biologist Jerry Coyne -- a staunch defender of Darwinism -- admits that 'natural selection cannot build any feature in which intermediate steps do not confer a net benefit on the organism.'27 Even Darwin intuitively recognized this problem, as he wrote in Origin of Species:

'If it could be demonstrated that any complex organ existed, which could not possibly have been formed by numerous, successive, slight modifications, my theory would absolutely break down.'

Evolutionary scientists like Darwin and Coyne claim they know of no real-world case where Darwinian selection gets blocked in this manner. But they would agree, at least in principle, that there are theoretical limits to what Darwinian evolution can accomplish: If a feature cannot be built by 'numerous, successive, slight modifications,' and if 'intermediate steps do not confer a net benefit on the organism,' then Darwinian evolution will 'absolutely break down.'

The problems are real. Modern biology continues to uncover more and more examples where biological complexity seems to outstrip the information-generative capacity of Darwinian evolution."

Lib Illogic on Theory of Evolution
I've heard several GK libs say over and over that God and the theory of evolution are not incompatible. This seems to be a favorite hobby horse of one lib in particular who recently revealed he is quite an emotionally needy fellow (as well as being untruthful, but that seems to be a common character flaw across the board for libs.)

There are plenty of scientifically-based problems with the theory of evolution (see the top 11 in an article accessible via a link on my profile page.) This post isn't meant to address any of the scientifically-based problems with Darwin's theory; just to say how illogical it seems to me to think that God and the theory of evolution are not incompatible.

To believe that, you'd have to believe that God, after creating the universe, which is incomprehensibly large and filled with galaxies, stars, planets, moons, nebulae (many of which are quite beautiful,) black holes, meteors, asteroids, and on and on - all of which are lifeless as far as we know (referring here to planets,) created the earth and decided, after creating everything else in a lifeless state, that He was going to create a living thing.

So God then decided, according to this view, that the only living thing He was going to create in His immensely large, beautiful, complex and lifeless universe was a microscopic bacteria. Totally ridiculous.

The incompatibility of God and the theory of evolution is also found in humans having consciousness (see #11 in the article which has a link on my profile page.) Evolutionists, from what I gather, believe consciousness is entirely matter based and arose in humans only because our brains grew big enough. Total and complete conjecture and not exactly the result of practicing the scientific method. But the scientific method isn't much in vogue these days.

I'll never argue evolution or natural selection with you.

It's too obvious.

The problem seems to be that a human can't understand billions of years.

Seriously, go deep and try to think of a billion.

If you were Carl Sagan, before he passed, you'd say "beeelyons and beeelyons" of years. Johnny Carson used to imitate the way Sagan pronounced that (all in good fun of course.)

I admit it's hard to wrap one's mind around beeelyons of years, but I don't accept that a really long time is evidence of anything but a really long time. And there are credible challenges, based on science, to the theory of evolution, just as there are many scientists who do not believe it is "settled science."
