Ok so you refuse to have a civll, rational, fact based discussion:

>>“I would rather they decide than leaving it up to the people which consist of illiterates, addicts, drop-outs, and liberals etc etc”.<<

That pretty much sums up the views of an authoritarian.

Yes, that is exactly right.

Teneday's Fine Point
<<It is not harmful.
Population centers with massive population should not decide elections.>>

Right! Elections are best decided by slack jawed hayseeds in backwater states grossly misinformed by propaganda outlets. Who wants elections being decided by people?

In fact, we should treat the US more like a business. You have $1, you get one vote. Dollars represent shares in America Corp. You have a billion dollars, you are obviously far more invested in the system--you get a billion votes.

Far better than letting acres vote, or (god forbid) people!

Deciding Elections
<<By your logic New York and California should decide all elections?>>

No, that is what we have now. The electoral college lets elections be determined by a few key swing states instead of the way all other elections are handled. In France, for example, the president is chosen by a vote of the people.

That is also how we choose governors, state representatives, and all other elected officials. Only the president is chosen by this crazy, backwards system created as a way to appease southern slave owners, where folks with excess epidermal melanin were prohibited from voting at all but counted as 3/5ths of a person for the purpose of electoral representation.

Oh Say Can You See?
<<So you see...what happens in population centers has nothing to do with the people in Wyoming or Idaho or South Dakota.>>

So the illiterate back wood hicks and hayseeds from Wyoming, Idaho, and South Dakota should get to choose the president instead of the wise and well informed people of more populous states?

Back in reality, Alexander Hamilton argued in favor of the electoral college precisely to keep people like Trump out of office--people corrupt, unfit, unqualified, beholden to foreign powers, and under the influence of emoluments. That system has NEVER worked as he intended.

Instead, the electoral college has become a popularity contest among the least informed, most ignorant citizens of the country.

Have we tried injecting disinfectant directly into the lungs? I hear it does a tremendous number on the lungs.

I heard about this 'Scientific' therapy via the Greatest living Expert on everything, the most intelligent human being the World has ever seen.. You should listen to him.You will never have to think for yourself ever again. He will tell you the 'Truth'. Just ask Vlad Putin. AKA; put-in-Novichok'. Another fine example of a Kind Human Being.

Woodword book
This couldn't have come at a better time. Millions of people believed him when he said the virus was a deep state hoax. That you didn't need masks, That it would miraculously disappear. Now after so many people dead, (many in his base) we hear him in his own words ,saying he knew the virus was deadly but deliberately down played it. His excuse; i didn't want people to panic!!! Which would you rather have? A deep panic knowing the truth, and taking better precautions, or being DEAD. What an Awful Human Being.

Awful human being
Truly despicable. He really has no ability to care about anyone or anything but himself. Everything is seen trough a lens of his image.

He is truly dangerous and disgusting.

I would like to ask that we ALL do our best not to paint with broad brushes in a negative light.

We are not monoliths based on political ideology. None of us.

We can discuss things without taking the conversations to the negative and or insulting.

To the regular crew which look like a much of lefties hanging out in my conservative club!   Lets not gang up on people. Disagree without being disagreeable.

I for one support the EC. I do think it’s the best option as a compromise between equal votes per state and a pure popular vote.

10-Sep-20, 07:24

I can
I can handle these lefties 😉

It doesn't matter in the end though.
Trump wins the EC and the popular vote.

Destroying cities and American history was the Democrats downfall.
Good luck in 2024 😆

lefty/handle
What's your definition of a "lefty", TEN, and what's your definition of "handle"?

And WHO are you? Your "prose" seems familiar.

There are some who consider you a "brainwashed fool". Do you agree with that premise or are you merely the cutesy type?

I was in West Virginia once.
I wasn't impressed.
Too many toothless mountain men asking me for definitions to words. 🙄
I was thrown out of the state by the locals when I refused to go to the mandatory viewing of "Deliverance"...which they watch EVERY Sunday after church. 🙄

Beautiful landscape though 🤔

EC
Groper may well win the EC, especially with Russia's aid. But he is going to lose the popular vote by a wider margin than he lost it to Hillary.

I don’t think ganging up on tenaday is needed. What is needed is discussions based on understanding the actual EC impact. It doesn’t work the way the framers intended. It makes third parties only spoilers. It gives someone who isn’t the popular choice the same power as a landslide winner. It disenfranchises the minority in every state snd the popular majority. Why should a minority select the Executive who pursues a minority agenda? Why should the GOP start witn a 3%!advantage?

89% of the Senate represents half the population. Why isn’t that sufficient protection for more rural voters?

The only thing that changed since 1970 is that conservatives want to skew Presidental elections in their favor because they can’t get a majority.

dmaestro
10-Sep-20, 10:46

Should be 80%. IOW 20 Senators are all the representation half the population gets. Why isn’t that enough?
lord_shiva
10-Sep-20, 12:29

Isn't That Enough?
Rural hicks and hayseeds must control not only the legislature, (both the House and Senate), but the executive branch too. "If you ain't ever cut the nuts off a hog, you ain't fit to cut the pork out of congress."

Paraphrasing Joni Ernst
chaz-
10-Sep-20, 13:03

...who would take care of the very rural areas (that could never muster enough votes on their own)? Should the urban majorities get their way over (or just ignore) the sparsely populated areas? Or, is the Senate capable of protecting them? I wonder.

I can certainly appreciate the critiques of the EC, but I'm not sure there would not be unintended consequences. I continue to deliberate the issue.
lord_shiva
10-Sep-20, 13:47

Unintended Consequences
The unintended consequences of eliminating the EC is that candidates would spend more time trying to appeal to ALL voters instead of kissing babies of yokels in backwater areas that don't deserve bridges to nowhere or federal pork larded on them by incumbents to secure their votes.

The hayseeds have more than sufficient representation in congress--they don't need the executive branch too.

"Oh, I live in Wyoming, so my vote counts three times what some well educated voter in California counts."

Farmers
Those "Hayseeds and Backwaters" are Farmers that provide food for the urban ghetto trash and liberal snowflakes who think food comes from the grocery store.

Never mess with people who prepared your food. 😉

(Obviously I am making a point about you being able to make derogatory remarks about people but can I do the same? I hope so because I believe in free speech.)
