Why Masks Mattter

Trump’s anti mask campaign is very costly!

...it's a conspiracy, and the masks are a cover-up.

Why?
Is it vanity?
Is it just a way to be divisive?
Is it just pure cussedness?

We have a truly dangerous cult like mentality spreading due to Trump.

It’s no mystery that the framers would have supported what right wing extremists oppose.

I obviously support masks. I’m looking at my ICU about to get overwhelmed again. Last time it did not but now much more likely. Masks are an easy and simple thing. And they help. How it became partisan is just beyond me.

How it became a partisan issue? You know the answer to that. The country has a huge orange abscess.

Partisan Masks
Well, I think Trump's refusal to don a mask, even when touring PPE manufacturing plants that had to dump a day's production as a result, and his complaints that masks were anti Trump symbols kind of created a partisan vibe.

Of course, it helps not in the least I scrawl "F* Trump" on my N95 mask, in big block medical red letters.

That Trump supporters would believe hydrocychloroquine is a miracle cure just shows what we are up against.

It’s wild isn’t it. They appear so desperate to believe. But what’s weird is common sense like masks is a conspiracy to them but disproven drugs are a miracle cure.

Total suspension of reason

...sometimes it's just easier to defend one's own risk taking as the currency for freedom. And much of these are natural responses bred into our genes. What's missing is our responsibilities to others. For those who believe in a pure survival of the fittest mentality, 'others' just need to take care of themselves in the same way. Preaching to this group has very poor mileage.

Agree my friend. Some people’s “values” are inconsistent with the larger welfare of humanity and they won’t let facts sway them. See my new thread. It’s quite possible there has been a misidentification of many swing votes as true centrist moderates rather than chaos voters.

Liberty & Masks
I'm not washing my hands after I use the toilet anymore. Too big of an imposition upon my liberty. I don't care that public health officials insist I must wash my hands after a greasy bowel movement--too bad for you all I work at a restaurant I'm not naming.

My freedom is far more important than your health. All that hand washing is for the birds. The founding fathers didn't wash their hands after relieving themselves in the privy. They didn't even have running water! I don't believe in microbes anyway. Diseases are caused by evil spells. You cannot see a microbe--why believe in them?

And if these supposed microbes DO cause disease, I can be cured with a simple remedy of oregano oil and a garlic suppository. I saw it on a YouTube video. I'll do that before I ever touch some government approved bar of soap probably designed to implant microchips into my brain!

evil spells. LS, this classic bit of Steve Martin flashed by me as I read your post.

Mother: They told me my daughter was here. They told me she was accused of consorting with the devil.

Theodoric of York: Congratulations! She was found innocent.

Mother: Oh Thank God! Where is she?

Theodoric of York: At the bottom of the trough of justice!

Theodoric of York: You see if the body is accepted by the water that means she’s not guilty.

Mother: She’s dead!!

Theodoric of York: Well, she must have drowned from being under the water.

Mother: You call this justice!? An innocent girl dead?

Theodoric of York: Hey! God’s will!

Mother: Why don’t you just admit it!? You don’t know what you’re doing!

It’s clear as expected asymptomatic transmission is a huge concern.
