Daniel
More than 500 years before the birth of Jesus, God revealed information to Daniel which would make it possible to pinpoint when Jesus would be appointed, as the Messiah.

Okay, lets look at the starting point of the period leading to the Messiah. I believe that according to the prophecy, it is from "the issuing of the word to restore and to rebuild Jerusalem."
According to the Bible writer Nehemiah, the word to rebuild the walls around Jerusalem was issued in the 20th year of King Artaxerxes (See Nehemiah 2:1, 5:8).

Historians have confirmed that the year 474 BC was Artaxerxes' first full year as the ruler. Therefore, the 20th year of his rule was 455 BC. So the starting point for Daniels prophecy is 455 BC.

Note at Daniel 9:25 he gave an indication of how long the time period leading to the arrival of Messiah the leader would last. The prophecy mentions 7 weeks, also 62 weeks, a total of 69 weeks.

How long is this period of time?
These are not weeks of 7 days, but weeks of years. Each week represents 7 years. This concept weeks of years was familiar to Jews of ancient times. for example they observed a Sabbath year every 7 years. see Exodus 23:10, 11. Therefore, the prophetic 69 weeks amount to 69 units of 7 years each, a total of 483 years.

If we count from 455BC a period of 483 years we will arrive at the year 29 and that is the year Jesus was baptized and became the Messiah see Luke 3:1,2, 21,22

I will have some additional information about this. I and my denomination believe that the starting date of the prophecy is 1457. I need to check my facts first before I post, but the prophecy says something along the lines (I need to look it up) that the streets and walls (of Jerusalem) will also be rebuilt, so that is a different decree than the one in Nehemiah. But we do believe that it is in the reign of Artaxerxes.

I made an error in my above post. I should have said 457 BC. I will post again a little later, but we believe that the prophecy of Daniel starts with the decree of Artaxerxes in Ezra chapter 7, vs. 11-28. I have a book explaining this prophecy and I will retype some of this explanation in the next few days.
