![]() President Kennedy said, " Ask not your country for what she can do for you but ask yourself what you can do for your country. If the state takes care of all of you always by welfare, food stamps, Medicaid, etc. the state will go bankrupt and our country will be in disaster. That is what happened former communist USSR and China. When I first came to US, I came with only a case of suitcase containing few clothes and presents for my cousin and others who helped me to come to US. My cousin and her husband sponsored me. I got a green card. She also gave me $ 1000 worth of PAN-AM airplane for my ticket. When I first came here, compared to my friends who had to work in hotels, Burger King or McDonald, I got a decent job but it was not ideal because I worked in underserved, crime infested places. I worked in Brooklyn, NY and Washing DC before. In the former the two black kids tried to mug me but I could run away just like Forest Gump, a disabled man with polio. In DC, my car was vandalized, Car's glass windows were broken and radio taken out. 4 tires were stolen. I sent the car to the junkyard. In the beginning, I did not have much choice to work and stay at the crime infested area but America is a vast country. After few years, I could stand on my own feet and could move to better places, just like the beasts in Serengeti plains of Africa. They have to look for the places where they can find water and greener grass for their survival. This is my take home message. |

![]() I guess the title of the thread "USA is still a much safer and better place to live and work" relates to USA being "much safer and better" than the place from which you emigrated. Because it definitely is not "much safer and better a place to work" than many other countries. |
