![]() Here are those verses again… “Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;” (2 Thessalonians 2:1-3) Reasoning for the objection goes… If the Apostle Paul was trying to reassure believers in Thessalonica that they were not in the day of the Lord (Tribulation,) why didn’t he tell them they couldn’t be in the day of the Lord because they were still on earth and hadn’t been Raptured? This assumes that apostasia in verse 3 is translated as “falling away” or “rebellion” (and not “departure” or “departing” as the seven earliest Bibles translated it.) But I heard a rejoinder that makes sense: The believers in Thessalonica were worried they had missed the Rapture (weren’t taken) and were now in the Tribulation. As Paul noted earlier, the believers in Thessalonica were undergoing persecution and affliction, which may have caused them to think they were in the Tribulation. So Paul telling them, “You didn’t miss the Rapture because the Rapture hasn’t happened” wouldn’t be very reassuring or convincing. But telling them they weren’t in the Tribulation because a significant falling away from or rebellion against God hadn’t happened and the Antichrist hadn’t appeared would be much more persuasive. Pastor John MacArthur, who I posted a video from earlier in this thread, believes in a pre-Tribulation Rapture but doesn’t think “departure” or “departing” is the proper translation of “apostasia” in verse 3. He thinks rebellion is. And he thinks the rebellion against God is tied to the rise of the Antichrist who initially will seem to be a figure of peace and benevolence. These are some long excerpts from a sermon by Pastor MacArthur on 2 Thessalonians 2, but I think they’re pretty interesting… <<The whole point of this both in the first letter and the second letter is to let us know that we are not going to be in the day of the Lord; we’re going to be taken out before the day of the Lord begins. “We are waiting” – says 1 Thessalonians 1:10 – “for His Son from heaven, who will deliver us from the wrath to come.” And chapter 5, verse 9 says essentially the same thing: “God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,” or obtaining deliverance. So, the future for believers is the rapture of the church. The next event in prophecy, the Lord is going to come from heaven with a shout of an archangel, the voice of God, the trumpet of God, and the believers are going to be snatched up. The dead in Christ rise out of their graves. First, we who are alive, caught up in the air to meet them, and we’re always with the Lord. Then comes the judgment of the day of the Lord, including the tribulation, the great seven-year period of judgment leading up to Christ’s return, and total judgment on the ungodly. So that’s the picture. Now the problem is Paul begins to write this second chapter and he says this: “Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together with Him,” just a comment about that; I don’t know if I made it clear last time. “The coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, even our gathering together to Him,” he’s talking about the rapture, the rapture. “Our gathering together to Him,” that’s exactly what the rapture is; we’re gathered together to Him. The Greek syntax uses only one article, and that means it’s one event explained in two expressions. And by the way, this is the sixth mention of the rapture in these two letters. So I want to talk to you about the rapture. I want to talk to you about when the Lord comes to gather us to be with Him. He was promising that, and it is going to come to pass. I want to talk to you about it. The reason I want to talk to you about it is because you’re confused, verse 2, “so that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed.” Now this is exactly what happened. They were shaken from their composure. They had lost their comfort, they had lost their hope. They were fearful, they were anxious, they were shaken. Why? They were disturbed by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. They were disturbed because somebody had told them they were going to go through the day of the Lord and they were already in it. In spite of what the apostle Paul had told them, that the Lord would snatch them and gather them to Himself, they were believing that they were experiencing the day of the Lord. Why? Back in chapter 1, verse 4, Paul refers to their “perseverance and faith in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure.” They were being persecuted. Life was very difficult for them, and they were wondering whether they might be in the day of the Lord and had missed the rapture. This shook them deeply. Now why would they believe that? Because somebody had come along and given them lies. Notice verse 2, “This disturbing came whether by a spirit, a message or a letter as if from us.” “I don’t care what the source is, whether it’s a spirit, somebody coming and saying they’re speaking for the Spirit of God to let you know you’re in the day of the Lord, that what you thought was true is not true. Somebody coming with a message or a word, somebody with a new eschatology that will help you to understand you’re going to go through the day of the Lord. Or somebody even saying, ‘Here’s a letter, and this letter is from Paul,’ and it says you’re going through the day of the Lord.” Paul says, “Whatever it may be,” – and it might have been all three of those; but nonetheless, Paul says – “in spite of all of that, I want to talk to you about the truth which I already made clear to you. You have come to believe you are in the day of the Lord, and so you are distressed.” He has to correct this deception.>> Shorter excerpt on the AntiChrist… <<When the Antichrist comes to power he comes to power at the beginning of the period known as the tribulation, the seventieth week of Daniel, that seven-year period. He comes to power. Daniel describes in him chapter 7, chapter 8, and chapter 11. He is narcissistic to the extreme, he is the ultimate egotist; but he coddles religion when he first comes. He doesn’t deny religion, he doesn’t destroy religion, he simply opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship. He is the supreme one. He is a man, human and earthly, satanically-controlled; and because he is satanically-controlled, and because Satan also controls all the religions of the world, the true believers are gone, this false religious leader will by Satan’s power be elevated above all other religions, and the whole world will bow to him. He will be superior intellectually, oratorically, politically, militarily, economically, and even religiously. He’ll become the leader of the world after he has literally reverenced himself above everyone else. This is apparently because he is able to bring global peace to some degree, that’s why Revelation begins – the first thing it begins with is a rider on a horse with a bow and no arrows. He’s coming to conquer without arrows; that means he conquers peacefully, not with war. So the Antichrist rises to global power because of his personality, because of the power of Satan behind him. This is his beginning.>> Good comments on the posture believers should have… <<Look, the world is full of doomsdayers, right, all over the place. We should live in joy, thankfulness, gladness, that whatever comes on this world by way of divine retribution doesn’t apply to us. We’re not of the night, we’re not of the darkness, we’re of the light; and the One who is the light of the world will come and shout, and we’ll all be gathered into His presence. That’s the next prophetic event. We don’t fear the day of the Lord because we have been saved from it by our Good Shepherd.>> www.gty.org |

![]() “What Happens to Believers AFTER the Rapture? - Jimmy Evans” youtu.be Video is 44:02 From the video description… <<There is a lot of teaching out there on what happens to the world after the rapture, but what happens to the church? In this video, Pastor Jimmy Evans shares what we'll be doing once we are translated!>> |

![]() In this video, Pastor Jimmy Evans, who has studied and written extensively on the End Times, says Jesus Christ in the Gospels said the End Times would take place in one generation and Pastor Evans gave the Biblical definition of a generation as 70 to 80 years. “The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.” (Psalm 90:10) (Threescore = 3 x 20) Pastor Evans further said the first End Times prophecy that was fulfilled is the return of Israel as a nation in 1948. If the End Times take place within one generation, and the return of Israel as a nation is the first sign of the End Times, then the generation that existed in 1948 would end in 2028. However, when Israel became a nation again in 1948, it only had West Jerusalem. Israel did not regain East Jerusalem from non-Jews (the Arabs) until after the six-day war in 1967, Pastor Evans says. youtu.be Video is 33:35 Two good quotes from the video… “I don’t believe we’re living in the End Times. I believe we’re living at the end of the End Times.” “Plan like Jesus isn’t coming for 100 years. But live like he’s coming today. Get an education, get a career, get married, have children… But understand, because of the signs of the times, He could come today.” |

![]() But if the Rapture happens before the seven-year Tribulation (a pre-Tribulation Rapture, which I think Pastor Evans believes,) then the Rapture should have taken place in 2021 (at the latest.) Not only that, but we should be in the Tribulation right now, which Pastor Evans said in another video is not the case. I think the error is in thinking a generation is 70 to 80 years. The Bible doesn’t say that, and we know many people today are living to 100 years and more. But this statement in Genesis, written about 3,500 years ago, stands today: “And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.” (Genesis 6:3) If we consider that a few hundred or even a few dozen people remaining from one generation are 100 years old and are enough to constitute a generation in the way Jesus Christ used that term in the Gospel passages pertaining to the End Times, then we have His Second Coming in 2048 and the Rapture (at the latest) in 2041. Because Jesus Christ said, “This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.” (Matthew 24:34) So the real question is, Has a generation passed if a few hundred or even a few dozen people from that generation are still alive on earth? And God in Genesis set the upper limit of a man’s age at 120 years and that - 3,500 years later - is spot-on accurate. <<The oldest verified man ever is Jiroemon Kimura (1897–2013) of Japan, who lived to the age of 116 years and 54 days.>> en.m.wikipedia.org. So I think using 70 to 80 years as the length of a generation is inaccurate - especially since there’s no standard for how many people from that generation can still be alive before that generation is said to have passed. |

![]() Pastor John MacArthur gave a sermon on the End Times (specifically the Olivet Discourse) and has a different view than Pastor Jimmy Evans. First, Pastor MacArthur says these verses from the Olivet Discourse in the Gospel of Mark (the Olivet Discourse is also in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke) refer to history for us but the future for Jesus Christ’s disciples whom Jesus was addressing… “And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you: For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows. But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them. And the gospel must first be published among all nations. But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost. Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” (Mark 13:5-13) Then, from verse 14 through verse 27, Pastor MacArthur says, Jesus is talking about the future for humans living today - specifically, the Tribulation for unbelievers. “But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains: And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house: And let him that is in the field not turn back again for to take up his garment. But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter. For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be. And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days. And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not: For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.” (Mark 13:14-23) The next few verses refer to the time after the Tribulation, Pastor MacArthur said. “But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.” (Mark 13:24-27) (Verse 27 refers to people who became believers during the Tribulation.) Lastly, and this is where Pastor MacArthur differs from Pastor Evans, is a reference Jesus makes to a fig tree… “Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near: So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.” (Mark 13:28-30) Pastor Evans thinks the fig tree refers to Israel (because a fig tree in an earlier Biblical account referred to Israel) and that Jesus referring to it budding is referring to Israel becoming a nation again in 1948. This, from two chapters earlier in the same Gospel, is where the fig tree referred to Israel… “And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry: And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.” (Mark 11:12-14) And a commentary on those verses… <<a. Seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it: Essentially, the tree was a picture of false advertising, having leaves but no figs. Ordinarily this is not the case with these fig trees, which normally do not have leaves without also having figs. i. For it was not the season for figs: It wasn’t that the fig tree didn’t have figs because it wasn’t supposed to. The problem is that it had leaves but didn’t have figs. The leaves said, “There are figs here,” but the figs weren’t there. ii. There were many trees with only leaves, and these were not cursed. There were many trees with neither leaves nor fruit, and these were not cursed. This tree was cursed because it professed to have fruit, but did not. b. In response Jesus said to it, “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again”: The tree was cursed for its pretense of leaves, not for its lack of fruit. Like Israel in the days of Jesus, it had the outward form but no fruit. In this picture, Jesus warned Israel – and us – of God’s displeasure when we have the appearance of fruit but not the fruit itself. God isn’t pleased when His people are all leaves and no fruit.>> enduringword.com Pastor MacArthur disagrees that the fig tree in Mark 13 (in the Olivet Discourse) refers to Israel (or anything else.) He says verse 30 simply means that the generation that sees the Tribulation will also see Jesus Christ’s Second Coming. Pastor Evans seems to tie Jesus’ comment in verse 30 about “this generation” to prophetic signs, while Pastor MacArthur seems to tie verse 30 to the Tribulation. But I think both pastors agree the Rapture is a “signless event” - that no prophecies need to be fulfilled before it takes place. And Jesus Christ (according to some Bible commentators) mentions the Rapture in the same chapter of the Gospel of Matthew where He gives the Olivet Discourse - specifically in these verses… “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” (Matthew 24:36-42) Here’s a brief commentary on distinguishing the Rapture from the Second Coming in Jesus’ words in chapter 24 of the Gospel of Matthew… <<i. Here again is the Second Coming dilemma. · Is it at an unexpected hour or is it positively predicted? · Is it business as usual or worldwide cataclysm? · Is it meeting Him in the air (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17) or is He coming with the saints (Zechariah 14:5)? ii. William Barclay describes one aspect of the difficulty here: “It is in two sections and they seem to contradict each other. The first (verses 32-35) seem to indicate that, as a man can tell by the signs of nature when summer is on the way, so he can tell by the signs of the world when the Second Coming is on the way… The second section (verses 36-41) says quite definitely that no one knows the time of the Second Coming, not the angels, not even Jesus himself, but only God; and that it will come upon men with the suddenness of a rainstorm out of a blue sky.” iii. The dilemma is resolved by seeing that there are actually two second comings. One is in the air, for the church – commonly known as the rapture. The other is to the world, coming with the church, commonly known as the Second Coming of Jesus. The “contradictions” in Matthew 24 (and much of the rest of prophecy) are often solved by seeing there are really references to “two” returns of Jesus.>> enduringword.com Here’s the video in which Pastor MacArthur talks about his view of the Olivet Discourse… youtu.be |

![]() (Luke 21:36) This verse in the Gospel of Luke, which I believe refers to the Rapture, got me thinking about how one will be “accounted worthy to escape” the Tribulation. I think it has to do with not who you are but whose you are. In other words, I don’t think it’s based on works but on whether one believes Jesus Christ is the Messiah and has put their faith and trust in Him. This first article makes a good point about the church in Corinth, which was far from a model church in terms of behavior. But the Apostle Paul, who wrote a letter to that church in which he referenced the Rapture, said all believers would go up. <<All true believers are included in the rapture Now I know that there are some teachers who believe in a 'partial rapture' and teach that only the 'overcoming' Christians will be taken in the rapture while the rest of the body of Christ will be left to go through the tribulation. The Bible doesn't teach this! As I have written elsewhere: You can be sure that when Jesus returns He is coming for His bride. Not part of the bride. He is coming for His body. Not just an arm. The passages that speak specifically about the rapture/our glorification speak of ALL Christians being changed in that day. It tells us to comfort one another with the thought. (1 Thes 4:13-17, 1 Cor 15:51-52) It presents no thought that only some (those holy enough) will be raptured. Both passages say that the rapture happens to ALL believers because all true believers are already overcomers! For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith. Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? (1 John 5:4-5) In fact one of those rapture passages, 1 Cor 15:51-52 is, obviously, written to the Corinthian church where Paul tells them that at the rapture 'we shall all be changed.' This is important because the Corinthian church was not one that was 'victorious' or 'overcoming' or even 'holy'. It was in many regards a sinful mess and Paul had to speak very firmly in his letter to them! But it didn't stop Paul saying that they will be in the rapture and nor did it stop him saying that they (the born again believers in Corinth and by extension all true believers) will be 'blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ'. That is how Paul started in his letter to them: 1Co 1:4-8 I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, (5) that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge, (6) even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, (7) so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, (8) who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. So there are many reasons that a partial rapture should be rejected. The fact is that the rapture, where we get our new body and are changed into His image (called our glorification), is as much a part of our salvation (which is all by grace through faith) as our initial justification. You cannot bring works into it any more than you can bring works into our initial justification. It just brings confusion and the glorifying of man, not God. "Salvation is of the Lord." For more information on a partial rapture and why it isn't biblical you could read: www.stempublishing.com I hope this helps. When looking at an important topic like who is going to be raptured, it is important to look at the whole counsel of God and compare scripture with scripture. But it is great to read that you are 'anxiously anticipating the Rapture'. So am I! This world is not our home and the longer I live in it the more of an 'alien and stranger' I feel! God Bless. jesusplusnothing.com These two articles say much the same thing. Those accounted worthy are those who not only profess to be Christians but are Christians by virtue of their belief in Jesus Christ as the Messiah (Saviour of the world) and in His Resurrection. <<How can I be sure I won’t be left behind in the rapture? The series of Left Behind novels and movies has prompted a lot of questions from a lot of people: is the rapture for real? (Answer: yes.) Will the rapture be followed by a time of divine judgment on earth? (Answer: yes.) Will I be left behind in the rapture? (Answer: that depends.) The rapture is what we call the event in which Jesus comes again to take believers out of this world. The Bible calls it a “catching away” (1 Thessalonians 4:17) and describes it as an instantaneous “change” of the body that bypasses death (1 Corinthians 15:51–52). Those raptured “will be with the Lord forever” (1 Thessalonians 4:17). Believers in Jesus Christ are taken in the rapture; unbelievers will be left behind when the rapture occurs. Those left behind in the rapture will face a quickly changing world—and the change will not be for the better. Second Thessalonians 2:11 says that the “power of lawlessness” is currently being held in check by the Holy Spirit. At the rapture, the true church is removed from the earth, and the Holy Spirit’s restraint will be “taken out of the way.” At that moment, the world will have no born-again believers anywhere. All the Christian workers in hospitals, nursing homes, orphanages, rescue missions, relief agencies—gone. Every Christian in law enforcement, social work, and health care—gone. And of course many churches will sit empty. In addition to the great void in the service community will be the commencement of God’s judgment on a rebellious world, detailed in Revelation 6—16. Don’t be left behind. Make sure you are ready for the rapture. Since the rapture is for believers, it is vital that you place your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior (Acts 16:31). Repent of your sin and fully trust in Jesus alone as the payment for your sin. Believe in Him, and you will not perish (John 3:16). The Lord knows who are His, and He will leave none of them behind (John 10:14). Those who are saved by faith in Christ will not be left behind in the rapture. The saved are like the five wise virgins in Jesus’ parable who are ready for the coming of the bridegroom; they have their lamps trimmed and burning and full of oil—a symbol of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 25:1–13). To make sure that you are not left behind, trust Christ. Today is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2). Do not delay another moment. The matter is urgent. Trust Christ now.>> www.gotquestions.org <<How can I be ready to be caught up in the rapture? The rapture is coming, and we should all make sure we are ready for it. Being ready for the rapture is much simpler than you may think. In short, you must receive Jesus Christ as your Savior. The rapture is for believers. Here is a clear prophecy of the rapture of the church: “According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words” (1 Thessalonians 4:15–18). Note that Paul is writing to believers concerning those who are “in Christ” and thus have the promise of resurrection. Those who are saved are ready for the rapture. The unsaved are not ready for the rapture. In fact, that day of the Lord (which begins with the rapture) will come upon the unsaved “like a thief in the night” (1 Thessalonians 5:2). Those who are left behind in the rapture will be those who do not have the Spirit of Christ dwelling within them. Believers are ready: “You, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief” (1 Thessalonians 5:4). The children of God are ready for the rapture because of their faith. They are the five wise virgins in Jesus’ parable who have their lamps trimmed and burning and full of oil—a picture of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 25:1–13). Unfortunately, faith will be lacking in most of the people on earth; the time before Jesus’ coming will be characterized by spiritual coldness and unbelief. Jesus spoke of His return and asked, rhetorically, “When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8). Are you ready for the rapture? Jesus knows His own, and He will come for them (John 10:14; 14:1–3). The only way you will be left behind in the rapture is if you have not received Christ as your Savior. If you are not saved, then today is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2). Do not delay another moment. Trust Christ now.>> www.gotquestions.org |

It’s Biblical. <<is mostly held by US evangelists (based on Wikipedia 'knowledge'), but not really by many others in the Christian community.>> Evangelicals tend to read and study the Bible and find a lot of enjoyment and peace in doing that. Do you think the majority of Christians in the world read and study the Bible? I’d be surprised if more than 25 percent do. <<I have learned how it isbased on very old scripture, or rather on certain interpretation of such scripture (whicu doesn't mean it is wrong!).>> It’s mostly in the New Testament but you can see foreshadowings of it in the Old Testament, such as how Enoch and Elijah were taken directly to Heaven without experiencing death. Some Old Testament passages also seem to refer to it, such as this one in Isaiah… “Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead. Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast. For, behold, the Lord cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.” (Isaiah 26:19-21) <<I would be very interested to know how many of the Christians in this Club accept this dogm. I emphasise that this is NOT criticism or even negative, just out of sheer interest.>> You’ve already called it “an extremist view.” Let’s not pretend you’re open-minded about it. |

Or is there a gap in time between the Rapture and the start of the Tribulation? 2) How long would building the Third Temple take? (The first two temples were destroyed - the first by the Babylonians in 586 B.C. and the second by the Romans in 70 A.D. The Jews have been without a temple for nearly 1,950+ years.) I haven’t found an answer yet to the first question, but answers I’ve found to the second question indicate construction of the Third Temple could easily take place within the first 3.5 years of the Tribulation. I’m not sure how elaborate the Third Temple is supposed to be nor am I sure if the Israelis have secured a location for it. I know they are well along in planning and preparations for it. But it seems like construction of the Third Temple is a pivotal marker in the Tribulation. |

|
![]() Says construction of the Third Temple may start not only after the Rapture but after the appearance of the Antichrist… <<Is the third temple rebuilt before the rapture takes place? The Bible never makes a connection between the timing of the resurrection (rapture) and the start of the Jerusalem Temple being built except that the resurrection must occur before the start of tribulation because scripture states that by the mid-point of tribulation the temple will be built and defiled by the Antichrist. Additionally, tribulation begins with a deceitful peace treaty between the Antichrist and the Jewish people which could possibly initiate the build of the third temple. However, this is mere speculation. Marking the mid-point of tribulation the Antichrist will compromise the peace agreement, taking a seat in the temple himself and calling himself God, which in effect defiles the temple as described in 2 Thessalonians: “2TH. 2:1 Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, 2TH. 2:2 that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 2TH. 2:3 Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 2TH. 2:4 who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God. 2TH. 2:5 Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things? 2TH. 2:6 And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. 2TH. 2:7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. 2TH. 2:8 Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; 2TH. 2:9 that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, 2TH. 2:10 and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.” The Antichrist will call himself god and will take a seat in the temple 3.5 years into the 7 years of tribulation (which must be rebuilt by the time of the Antichrist's appearing) and will rule the earth with the power of Satan until Christ's return. Furthermore, Paul says the specific identity of the Antichrist will not be revealed to the world until the "restrainer" is removed from the earth. The term "restrainer" refers to the Holy Spirit, Who lives in the world now (in the members of the Church), but He will leave the earth when the Church itself is removed at the resurrection (rapture). The resurrection of the Church takes place prior to the revealing of the Antichrist, therefore believers will not know the Antichrist's identity while we live on earth but may see the beginning steps to fortify the Jerusalem Temple. But again, this is not a prerequisite to the end-times timeline. As we approach the end-times, we will continue to see increased preparations made to ensure the rebuild of the temple which started in the late 1980's, under the Temple Movement project. Furthermore, the Temple Mount Faithful, an organization that has been trying to prepare Israeli society to accept and promote the rebuilding of the temple, while making various Temple-related items, most notably a portable alter for sacrifice, are earnestly forging avenues to obtain proper worship at the Temple Mount. As we eagerly wait for the arrival of the Messiah, the Church body eagerly awaits the rapture which can happen at any time.>> versebyverseministry.org I think some context is necessary on the 2 Thessalonians 2:1-10 passage. From what I’ve read, the Apostle Paul is addressing concerns of members of the Thessalonica church that they had missed the Rapture and were in the Tribulation (apparently they were being persecuted severely for being Christians.) But Paul is telling them they can’t be in the Tribulation because the “apostasy” (believed by some Bible commentators to be a large-scale rebellion against the church) and the appearance of the Antichrist hadn’t taken place. In the first verse (2 Thessalonians 2:1,) Paul is referring to the Rapture, but beginning at verse 2, Paul is referring to the Tribulation. Also from what I’ve read, the “day of the Lord” refers to the Tribulation, while the “day of Christ” refers to the Rapture. <<The Day of Christ is contrasted in Scripture with the Day of the Lord — a period of time referred to many times in the OT (Joel 2.11; Zeph. 1.14; Mal. 4.5 etc.) In biblical chronology, the Day of the Lord follows the Day of Christ. Whereas the Day of Christ has particular reference to the blessing of the Church in heaven, the Day of the Lord refers to the time of unparalleled judgment upon Israel and the nations on earth — a time referred to in Scripture as the time of “Jacob’s trouble” (Jer. 30:7) and “the great day of His (the Lord’s) wrath” (Rev. 6.17). Though the initial period of the Day of the Lord will be horrific — a seven-year period of intense Tribulation on earth, it will also include the Millennium — a 1000 year reign of peace and prosperity under the rule of the Prince of Peace. This period of time though peaceful, is included in the Day of the Lord since it will witness the direct intervention and judgment of the Lord in the affairs of man as He rules in righteousness. During this time, He will immediately put down all sin and rebellion in contradistinction to the grace and long-suffering that He demonstrates today as He patiently waits for men and women to repent and turn to Him in faith.>> knowtheword.com |

![]() <<What is the end times timeline? Got Questions Ministries takes a pretribulational approach to eschatology. From that perspective, here is the order of end-times events that the Bible reveals: 1. The rapture of the church. Christ comes in the clouds to “snatch away” all those who trust in Him (1 Corinthians 15:52). At this same time, the “dead in Christ” will be resurrected and taken to heaven, too. From our perspective today, this is the next event in the eschatological timeline. The rapture is imminent; no other biblical prophecy needs to be fulfilled before the rapture happens. 2. The rise of the Antichrist. After the church is taken out of the way (2 Thessalonians 2:7–8), a satanically empowered man will gain worldwide control with promises of peace (Revelation 13:1; Daniel 9:27). He will be aided by another man, called the false prophet, who heads up a religious system that requires worship of the Antichrist (Revelation 19:20). 3. The tribulation. A period of seven years in which God’s judgment is poured out on sinful humanity (Revelation 6–16). The Antichrist’s rise to power is associated with this time period. During the tribulation on earth, the Church will be in heaven. It is thought that at this time the Judgment Seat of Christ and the Marriage Supper of the Lamb will occur in heaven (2 Corinthians 5:10; Revelation 19:6–10). 4. The Battle of Gog and Magog. In the first part of the tribulation, a great army from the north, in alliance with several other countries from the Middle East and Africa, attacks Israel and is defeated by God’s supernatural intervention (Ezekiel 38–39). (Some commentators place this battle just before the start of the tribulation.) 5. The abomination of desolation. At the midway point of the seven-year tribulation, the Antichrist breaks his covenant with Israel and shows his true colors. The Jews are scattered, and many of them turn to the Lord, realizing that Jesus is their Savior. A great persecution breaks out against all those who believe in Christ (Daniel 12:11; Mark 13:14; Revelation 12:17). 6. The Battle of Armageddon. At the end of the tribulation, Jesus returns with the armies of heaven (Mark 14:62). He saves Jerusalem from annihilation and defeats the armies of the nations fighting under the banner of the Antichrist (Revelation 19:11–21). The Antichrist and the false prophet are captured and thrown alive into the lake of fire (Revelation 19:20). 7. The judgment of the nations. Christ will judge the survivors of the tribulation, separating the righteous from the wicked as “sheep” and “goats” (Matthew 25:31–46). (It is thought that at this time the Old Testament saints will be raised from the dead.) The righteous will enter the Millennial Kingdom; the wicked will be cast into hell. 8. The binding of Satan. Satan will be bound and held in a bottomless pit for the next 1,000 years (Revelation 20:1–3). 9. The Millennial Kingdom. Jesus Himself will rule the world, and Jerusalem will be the capital. This will be a 1,000-year period of peace and prosperity on earth (Revelation 20; Isaiah 60–62). Memorial sacrifices will be offered in a rebuilt temple in Jerusalem (Ezekiel 40–48). 10. The last battle. At the end of the 1,000 years, Satan will be released from his prison for a short time. He will deceive the nations once again, and there will be a rebellion against the Lord that will be quickly defeated (Revelation 20:7–10). Satan will be cast into the lake of fire, never to reappear. 11. The Great White Throne Judgment. All those in hell will be brought forth, and all the wicked from all eras of history will be resurrected to stand before God in a final judgment (Revelation 20:11–15). The verdicts are read, and all of sinful humanity is cast into the lake of fire. 12. The new creation. God completely remakes the heavens and the earth. It is at this time that God wipes away all tears and there will be no more pain, death, or sorrow. The New Jerusalem descends from heaven, and the children of God will enjoy eternity with Him (Revelation 21–22). Other views of eschatology, such as midtribulationism, amillennialism, and partial preterism, will have different timelines of the end times, of course.>> www.gotquestions.org |

![]() (For whatever reason, the author of this article refers to the Rapture as the resurrection.) <<…the Bible never makes a connection between the timing of the resurrection and the start of Tribulation except that the resurrection must occur first. In other words, the Bible never specifies how much time must pass between the resurrection of the church and the start of the Tribulation. It could be a short time, but it could also be a very long time. We don’t know. The Bible makes no claims for how long the world will wait after the resurrection of the Church before the appearing of the antichrist and the start of Tribulation. While most Bible scholars assume there will only be a short gap of time between the resurrection and the start of Tribulation, it is possible for the two events to be spaced many years apart. The only thing we know is the resurrection is imminent and must come first.>> versebyverseministry.org So construction of the Third Temple really has no bearing on when the Rapture takes place. Not only could the Third Temple be constructed in the first half of the seven-year Tribulation, it could be constructed after the Rapture but before the Tribulation starts if a time gap exists between those events. |

![]() And doesn’t the last verse (verse 28) sound like the Rapture? “And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto. For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” (Luke 21:20-28) The (very) few Bible commentators I’ve read on this passage seem to think verses 20 through 24 refer to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. by the Romans, which would have been a few decades after Jesus Christ spoke these words. But doesn’t the whole passage seem to potentially fit these present times? |
