<<It is evident when reading scripture that we are living in the "end times", and this means we are the generation that will witness the return of Jesus Christ! Be sure you are saved and ready. He is the only way!

John 14:1-7
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.>>

<<After the destruction of Jerusalem in 70AD and the disbursement of Jews worldwide, it would have been hard to believe that Jesus could be coming back anytime soon. After all, the Old Testament prophesied that Israel would be regathered into their own nation. And it would have been hard to believe that everyone on earth could witness something happening on the other side of the world in real time - that the whole world could be watching something all at once. It would have been hard to believe that there could be a mark placed on one's forehead or right hand that could allow them to buy or sell, or without it, preventing them from doing so. Biblical End Times Signs that seemed impossible until recent history are now realities!! “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” (Luke 21:28).>>

In support of a Hanukkah Rapture…

<<Hanukkah: Rapture Themes
T.W. Tramm – (11/30/23)

THE final biblical holiday of 2023—Hanukkah—begins the evening of December 7.

While Hanukkah is not the first festival one thinks of when it comes to the Rapture, there are at least 10 ways it points to the “blessed hope,” the glorious appearing of Jesus Christ:

1. THE NINTH MONTH
Hanukkah occurs in the ninth month, Kislev. The number nine appears 49 times (the number of Jubilee) in Scripture and signifies completeness or finality.

2. ‘MIDNIGHT’ OF THE YEAR
Astronomically, the year is a circle. Dividing the circle into halves at the spring and fall equinoxes, the winter solstice around Hanukkah marks the halfway point, or ‘midnight,’ of the dark (nighttime) portion of the year. This is significant because midnight is when the bridegroom comes to gather the virgins: “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!” (Matt. 25:6).

3. ‘THIRD WATCH’ OF THE YEAR
Dividing the circle of the year into four ‘watches’ at the equinoxes and solstices, the winter solstice around Hanukkah marks the end of the third watch. In Luke, Jesus warns that He may come during the third watch: “And if he shall come in ... the third watch, and find them so [watching], blessed are those servants” (Luke 12:38 KJV).

4. DEDICATING THE TEMPLE
Hanukkah commemorates the cleansing and rededication of the Temple to the Lord, after the Jews recaptured it from the Greek army and Antiochus IV Epiphanes, who had defiled it. The cleansing and dedication of the Temple points to the dedication of the ultimate Temple—the Church, or Body of Christ—at Jesus’ coming.

5. A SECOND FEAST OF TABERNACLES
Hanukkah, the festival that commemorates the rededication of the Temple, is patterned after the original feast of dedication, Tabernacles (2 Macc. 1:9, 18; 1 Kings 8). Since Hanukkah is basically a delayed observance of Tabernacles, some Jewish scholars teach that it marks the true conclusion of the High Holy Days.

6. JESUS AT THE GATHERING PLACE
In John chapter 10, it is on Hanukkah that Jesus appears at the Temple area called Solomon’s porch (vv. 22, 23). Solomon’s porch was a place of assembly for the early Church, and is believed to be the location of the gathering of the saints on the first Pentecost, when the Church Age began (Acts 2; 5:12).

7. SPIRITUAL HARVEST
In John chapter 4, it is around Hanukkah, when spring is yet four months away, that Jesus surveys the spiritual field and deems it ripe for harvest: “You have a saying, ‘Four more months and then the harvest.’ But I tell you, take a good look at the fields; the crops are now ripe and ready to be harvested!” (John 4:35).

8. ENOCH AND HANUKKAH
The name Enoch means “dedicated or consecrated,” and is derived from the same Hebrew word Hanokh used for Hanukkah. This is significant because Enoch, who was supernaturally taken up to be with God, is a picture of the raptured Church. What’s more, Enoch was raptured when he was 365 years old (Gen. 5:23, 24), the same number of days in the Gregorian year that ends around Hanukkah.

9. A GREAT SHAKING
It was on Kislev 24, the date that would later become Hanukkah Eve, that God gave Haggai a prophecy about a great shaking at the end of the age:

“The word of the Lord came to Haggai on the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying ... I am going to shake the heavens and the earth. I will [in the distant future] overthrow the thrones of kingdoms and destroy the power of the kingdoms of the [ungodly] nations” (Hagg. 2:20–22; Heb. 12:26).

Correspondingly, the Rapture will shake the heavens and earth (Rev. 6:12–17).

10. A TIME OF SHOPPING AND FEASTING
Kislev, the month of Hanukkah and Christmas, is when people worldwide are shopping and feasting. This is significant because Jesus says they will be “eating, drinking, buying and selling,” when Judgment Day arrives (Luke 17). It is also said that people will be “planting” and “marrying.” Kislev–December, the final month of fall, is when wheat and barley are planted in Israel, and is considered an extremely auspicious time for weddings.

In summary, Hanukkah is . . .
• A time of completion, or finality.
• ‘Midnight’ of the biblical year.
• The end of the ‘third watch.’
• A time of dedicating the Temple.
• A delayed Feast of Tabernacles.
• A time when Jesus is at the Temple.
• A time of spiritual harvest.
• A time of shaking, or judgment.
• A time of buying, selling, eating drinking, planting and marrying.

The rapture themes of Hanukkah remind us that the ultimate festival of dedication lies ahead. Soon, on a day no one knows, the ‘Temple’ that has been cleansed by the blood of the Lamb—the Church of Jesus Christ—will stand spotless before the Lord.>>

When I was a kid up to pretty recently, I always thought those who died and went to Heaven existed as souls or spirits forevermore.

But this verse, which was in a devotional I received today, reinforces the idea that Christians receive glorified bodies - that is, physical and immortal bodies similar to the body Jesus Christ had post-Resurrection.

“For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.”

(Philippians 3:20-21)

And I believe the question of when Christians receive glorified bodies is answered in these verses commonly associated with the Rapture.

“And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.”

(1 Corinthians 15:49-54)

But if I’m wrong, that doesn’t mean the Rapture won’t happen, as the timing was not revealed.

But when it does happen, I would advise you not to believe the manufactured excuses about why millions of people are missing from the earth.

Simply my opinion. Doesn’t prove or disprove the veracity of the Rspture.

Those who dispute the Rapture ought to offer alternative explanations for the verses commonly associated with the Rapture. From what I’ve seen, respected pastors don’t disagree that the Rapture is Biblical but do disagree about the timing of it (whether it occurs before the Tribulation, which is what I believe; midway through the seven-year Tribulation; or at the end of the Tribulation.)

One Christ denier on here mocks Christians who believe in a pre-Tribulation Rapture but offers no Biblical support for his position. IMO, he has no idea of God’s love for His children.

Sad.

This is more of a “signs of the times” post than a post specifically about the Rapture, but because I believe the Rapture is an event of the End Times and that we’re in the End Times, it seems to fit in this thread…

<<It was a house-swarming party.

Residents of southeastern Mexico were left in shock after a biblical proportion of locusts swallowed the region’s skies, leading many — including local media — to evoke passages from the books of Exodus and Revelation.

The plague unfolded this week in Mérida and nearby Sinanché in the Yucatan area, with local authorities struggling to mitigate the midge-like insects.

“I won’t open my mouth again!” one X user posted Wednesday in Spanish alongside a photo of the locust invasion.

Other videos shared online show the swarm passing over major urban corridors as cars drive underneath — some are calling it “the end of the world.”

Since 2020, a heightened influx of locust swarms has been reported around the Horn of Africa.

Outbreaks were recorded last month in the Middle East and Africa, according to the United Nations.

Locust swarms commonly develop due to food scarcity — the swarms allow the insects to breed without interruption, per the UN, which noted climate change can be a triggering factor.

The agency blamed the COVID-19 pandemic for exacerbating swarms.

Supply chain disruptions impacted the production and delivery of needed pesticides.

The University of Cambridge notes that locusts tend to attack areas of vegetation during droughts.

The Yucatan has been farm-rich since the days of the Mayans.

Of course, that peninsula is no stranger to apocalyptic events. The asteroid that annihilated dinosaur life landed in the region 66 million years ago.>>

More signs of the times…

<<A ‘biblical’ plague of toads, frogs and tadpoles wreaked havoc in a Honduras city, even causing a multi-car pile-up.

The amphibians took over the streets and homes of Choloma after heavy rain fell in the area, causing drains to overflow and puddles to form.

The outbreak started on December 3 and, according to locals, continued for at least three days.

At one point, a pick-up truck lost control on the slime left behind and caused a pile-up involving at least five vehicles, including a tanker, two lorries and a motorbike that was left burnt to a crisp.

There were no fatalities, but the road was blocked for some time, causing a long tailback, said residents.

Some of the people caught up in the crash had to be taken to hospital in the nearby city of San Pedro Sula.

Several people filmed the creatures swarming the area, including one man who said: ‘This scares me. It looks more like the plagues of Egypt.’

According to the Book of Exodus, the second plague of Egypt was a plague of frogs.

The account says Moses, at the command of God, brought forth a multitude of the amphibians from the Nile and they then covered Egypt for three days.

Earlier this month, another ‘biblical’ plague, this time of locusts, hit Yucatán in Mexico.

Miles-long clouds of the bugs blanketed the skies, flying through shopping plazas, smacking into the windows of apartment complexes and gobbling up anything green in local parks.

In the Book of Exodus, locusts were the eighth of the 10 plagues sent to carpet Egypt.>>

<<Iceland volcano eruption: Thrill-seekers defy danger warnings and venture to site of enormous blast despite bubbling lava and smoke being spewed into sky - as astonishing photo shows scores of cars queuing nearby.

• Eruption at the Sundhjuka took place on Monday night and was captured in jaw-dropping footage

• Magma had built up under the surface of the Reykjanes peninsula for weeks

Thrill-seekers last night defied danger warnings and ventured near the site of a huge volcano eruption in Iceland - despite bubbling lava and smoke being spewed into the sky.

Astonishing pictures - including one of scores of cars queuing to get close to the area - show people trying to witness Mother Nature's work first-hand.

The eruption began around 2.4 miles from the town of Grindavik just after 10pm on Monday at the Sundhjuka crater, on the Reykjanes peninsula.

It comes after a series of earthquakes forced thousands to be evacuated last month as the country declared a state of emergency and braced itself for the impending explosion.

Jaw-dropping footage last night captured Iceland's black night sky lit up a deep orange colour as molten rock flew into the air in spectacular scenes which continued into the early hours of this morning.

Magnus Tumi Gudmundsson, a scientist who flew over the site on Tuesday morning onboard an coast guard research flight, told Icelandic broadcaster RUV that he estimates twice as much lava had already spewed than the entire monthlong eruption on the peninsula this summer.

Gudmundsson said the eruption was expected to continue decreasing in intensity but that scientists have no idea how long it could last. 'It can be over in a week, or it could take quite a bit longer,' he said.

However, despite the obvious dangers, the Ministry of the Environment was forced to issue repeated warnings to those thinking about getting close to the volcano.>>

More signs of the times…

This verse from 2 Thessalonians…

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;”

(2 Thessalonians 2:3)

…can be interpreted in two ways.

Either, the Tribulation shall not come until some (many?) Christians abandon the faith and the Antichrist is revealed OR the Tribulation shall not come until the departure of believers and the Antichrist is revealed. (The Greek word translated into English as “falling away” can also be translated as “departure” and was indeed translated as “departure” in the earliest Bibles.)

Why do I bring this up?

Because the guy who most strongly identified as a Christian outside of this club recently posted this…

<<Did you ever stop to think that nothing is the only real thing? You are nothing, you came from nothing and you will return to nothing. Nothing has created everything.>>

m.gameknot.com
(Timestamp 18-Dec23 13:55)

Not only can I not imagine a Christian posting that, I can’t imagine a theist or deist posting that.

I can only imagine an atheist posting that.

The falling away is indeed underway and sadly the falling away is evident right here on GK.

And the attacks on Christians from the Gang of Four (and others) will become only more frequent and intense as the day of the Lord approaches and the Christ deniers become more agitated and active.

Don’t always trust Wikipedia…

The claim that the Rapture was invented in 1830 by John Darby, though asserted by Wikipedia, more than a few Christians and a Christ denier on here, is simply false.

This is a good video that debunks that claim, though the teacher who presents it spends a great deal of time talking about what the Rapture is and when it will take place in relation to the Tribulation.

For those interested in just the debunking of the Rapture not being historically taught in the early church, skip ahead to 41:39.

I’ve said before - though as my maternal grandmother used to say, it bears repeating - people who deny the Rapture is in the Bible need to offer an alternative interpretation of passages associated with the Rapture (I won’t copy-and-paste those passages here but they can be found in this video and online.)

Wikipedia is based on contributions by volunteers. There are rules of writing or of revising text ; perhaps the most important one is to provide citations/references.

I have a genuine Christian upbringing, within the Evangelic-Lutheran Church which is one of the two state churches of Finland (the other one is the Greek Orthodox).

Yet, this is the first time I hear about the Rapture. I looked up the Swedish-speaking Wikipedia article about it. There it is aptly described and said that its current form emerged in the midlle 19th century in USA. However, the site also gives two references from the Bible on which it is based

Matthew 24:29-31
Thessalonians 4: 16-18

and mentions that there are other passages, too, referring to this in the Bible.
stalhandske
23-Dec-23, 22:48

My point with the above is mainly to conclude that the Rapture has a very weak (or insignificant) position in the Evangelic-Lutheran version of Christianity, where it is considered more like a theoretical theological 'detail'.
victoriasas
23-Dec-23, 22:56

I disagree.

The Rapture has far from a very weak or insignificant position, and it was taught in the early church, contrary to what Wikipedia and some Christians claim. And I’ve provided evidence for that in this thread.

Why this concerns you as an atheist is beyond me, but I think pastors who have studied the End Times for decades and who believe in a pre-Tribulation Rapture are more knowledgeable about the Rapture than atheists.
stalhandske
23-Dec-23, 23:35

I am sorry, but you completely misunderstood my post. I just described what the Wikipedia (in Swedish) says, and what the Church in my country says. I have made absolutely no claim of knowing anything about the Rapture, just the contrary! And why can I not show interest in it?
