The Department of War
Donald Trump has signed an executive order to rebrand the Department of Defense as the Department of War, restoring its historic name in official presidential communications and some Pentagon uses as of September 2025.

Renaming the Department of Defense to the Department of War would likely cost between hundreds of millions and several billion dollars, according to estimates.

We are so concerned about needles wasted money arnt we?

But don't worry Trump is a dove, and it is just like a dove to rename the Department of Defense to the department of war.

Friends & Foes KNOW Where We Stand, Don't They?

When has President Trump ever tip toed about what he believes in and how he's going to administrate the office for the American President?

I imagine that renaming all the military bases and airfields, public buildings, parks and national forests, tearing down statues, and replacing/renaming them cost hundreds of millions and several billion dollars, according to estimates also.

Are you so concerned about needless, wasted money... selectively?

Remember Those "Peaceful Protesters"?
In response to Softaire's post @ 06-Sep-25, 07:47

This is exactly the kind of nonsensical political appraisals regarding their opinions on how the American President responds to the American lawlessness in so many of our cities.

Hmm 🤔?

That is a fantastic point, thank you. To answer your question sir. I am not concerned about wasted money needlessly. And I'll explain why. Rather than engage in whatsboutism with you by saying that the "Needless renaming of military bases" cost over 60 million dollars.

I'll simply say that those politicians who wanted to rename those bases (to my knowledge) Never put the richest man in the world in charge of a brand new government entity, for the sole Pourpose of eliminating waste. Did they?

What I am pointing out is hypocrisy sir. Trump ran on a platform of eliminating government waste and also being the most peaceful president ever. In fact he said "I'll be a peace time president" most times when Trump says something, he does the exact opposite.

So ruling by Fiat executive orders, to rename the department of defense. Show's me he doesn't care about wasted money and he doesn't care about peace. Otherwise the thought of renaming our Department of Defense to the department of War would have never crossed his mind now would it.

Surly you are smart enough to see that point.

I believe a carful reading of my reply to Mr Bruce should answer most of your questions. If not. Please let me know.

As for all the other things you said. Each person's wrongs should stand in their own. If we are talking about Jeffrey Dahmer . Bringing up how bad Ted Bundy was to distract and minimize what Jeffrey did. Is a poor man's tactic to shift the conversation to points other than the BLEEDING OBVIOUS.

Oh and your Freudian slip is well noted.

Yes exactly he is executing his office for the American president not necessarily the American people have a nice day.

I believe that the hypocrisy you speak of is to criticise Trump for renaming the Dept. of Defense needlessly while ignoring all the renaming, rebranding, and destruction of property by the liberals and progressives during the Obama and Biden years.

If you were really interested in the wasted money, wasted efforts, and wasted destruction of property, you would have said something back then in those days. Why didn't you?

I guess I was wrong about you then. Do really have to spell it out? I have never said I'm concerned about government waste or spending. Trump did! I never said I was concerned about peace. Trump did. He created a brand new agency to combat waste, DOGE, and then turns around and wastes money like a drunken sailor.

However if it makes you feel better, keep making the his about me. I'm cool with that because I already know that you and VF would excuse him for literally anything. That's why he should just go ahead and release the full Epstein files cuz it's not going to matter.

My true honest heartfelt belief is is he could rape the underage girl in the middle of fifth avenue and some people would say but she look at what she was wearing.

<The secretary of war, a member of the United States Cabinet, headed the War Department.

The National Security Act of 1947 established the National Military Establishment, later renamed the United States Department of Defense. On the same day this act was signed, Executive Order 9877 assigned primary military functions and responsibilities, with the former War Department split between the Department of the Army and Department of the Air Force.

In the aftermath of World War II, the American government (among others around the world) decided to abandon the word 'War' when referring to the civilian leadership of their military. One vestige of the former nomenclature is the names of the service war colleges: the Army War College, the Naval War College, and the Air War College, which still train U.S. military officers in tactics, operations and strategies.>

Renaming the US 'War Department' to the 'Department of Defense' between WWII and the Korean war was the first salvo of the prog word game manipulation efforts.

The Die is cast. and Thumper that comment boarders on the delusional, No one plays a long game of that magnitude without gaining. Oh but don't worry Trump is going to save us all and to the victor goes the spoils,. He's doing the right thing for the American president. As long as he is attacking the object of your contempt, He can do as he pleases.

BTW, it has went from 75% to 80% and I see no reason that will change my mind about that.

I recall way back in ‘87 when I took a political science course where we read Thucydides’ Peloponnesian war. I vaguely recalled the good professor trying hard to explain how language changes, especially in the run-up to and in the conduct of war in terms of wartime propaganda and psychology.

At the time Willaim Bennett was visiting the University of Houston campus and the good doctor was upset that he had to invite much of the faculty to this Dept. of Education head and speaker at a forum we were having.
When students in the class questioned why teachers should not be invited to hear the DOE Secretary speak on a university campus, the professor ( who had a PHD in POLY Sci and who translated classics from Greek to English) ridiculed us for thinking that the DOE and anything to do with real education objectives.
He said there were objectives alright, but not what the common person(especially college educated) would know or care to work to find out.

He also mentioned that after WWII the department of war was changed to the Department of Defense. It was, professor Ross said, you knew, or should have known we as a country were on a war path.

So Im not sure why this current reversion to DOW means or how things have degenerated to the point that this type of behavior is important to the powers that be,

I wish I could say, I failed the class.

A rose by any other name still has thorns.

A Solid Fuel Safety Technician is still a Chimney Sweep and a Waste Management Technician is still a Garbage Man.

Many titles of professions/occupations/departments have been deliberately changed/re-termed/renamed over time to make them sound nicer or give it more 'prestige'?

Word games...

Word games or do people tier of the same thing, therefore feel the need to change it? I once knew a contractor that renovated homes. If the molding was quarter round and wood they changed it to square and painted. If the floors were tiles, they installed wood flooring over it. +As long as it was mostly level)

I'm sorry but I don't see a grand conspiracy at play here. But I can be persuaded with evidence other than "trust me bro I know things"

I'm not saying "trust me bro". I'm just saying what's verifyable and true, not my 'opinion'.
