On Thursday Mick Keelty, the interim Inspector General for the Murray-Darling Basin, told a meeting of about 250 farmers in Deniliquin he would support their calls to review laws governing the share of water between NSW, Victoria and South Australia. “If you tell me what's wrong, I will call it out,” Mr Keelty said in response to a concerns raised by a number of speakers at the forum over rules guaranteeing water supply to South Australia. The speakers argued the current drought highlighted a problem where in dry times a full river was maintained through releases from dams in NSW and Victoria to maintain supply in South Australia, while irrigators in upstream states received no water for irrigation. “Why are Hume and Dartmouth dams spilling over with water whilst people have got zero allocation?,” Mr Keelty said. Former Australian Federal Police boss Mick Keelty was appointed interim Inspector General for the Murray-Darling Basin by federal Water Minister David Littleproud in October last year. From The Age

The Morrison government’s handpicked top water cop in the Murray-Darling Basin is backing people power to launch major water reforms that could see South Australia’s share of river flow reduced.

On Thursday Mick Keelty, the interim Inspector General for the Murray-Darling Basin, told a meeting of about 250 farmers in Deniliquin he would support their calls to review laws governing the share of water between NSW, Victoria and South Australia.

“If you tell me what's wrong, I will call it out,” Mr Keelty said in response to a concerns raised by a number of speakers at the forum over rules guaranteeing water supply to South Australia.
