when playing a GK Master what do you open with
e4 d4 Nc3 Nf3? I know what I played and will share it here upon completion of my game. This thread is open to anyone who wants to contribute.

You're on a level where this makes a difference. For me it doesn't. Against such players it's going to get ugly and brutal for me no matter what I open with. It's just a matter of how long the Master wants to toy with me. I'm open to learn but damn!! I've been playing some very strong players lately 2000-2600 and they see and do things with the pieces for a longer term strategy I just don't see. BC recommended a book by Alekhine to help my game but when I got it I immediately realized it was written with Descriptive rather than Algebraic notation. A big stumbling block for me.

BC is one of the GK master's I play and she gives great advice

it takes just 1 wrong move and you can tell who will win with proper sound moves. I remember playing my hardest when I was rated way under a GK master. I thought I really was doing well until the game was over and analysis showed it was lost after the 10th or so move... That's why I play to see if I can draw off a higher rated, or keep from losing to the lower rated players, who have so much more to win by my lose to them. Even a draw for them lowers my ratings, which are just a number. I look forward to playing some chess with relatives this holiday. Those are the best games which I enjoy the most.

Some of the most enjoyable games I've played have been next to a fireplace. Good company, good conversation... good times.

Stål
When a player on my level plays someone like BC, Stål, you or Cyrano you get humbled very quickly and don't even understand how it happened. The cool thing is that you're all very gracious.

<The cool thing is that you're all very gracious. > That's only an illusion.

When playing a grand master, your best bet is to open with a feverish prayer.

I remember Deep Blue
I think you should just play and learn as you go maybe have some fun, Play safe and trade down maybe get a draw!

Trading down sounds good but you guys' end game is so strong... Like you pointed out, even when I think I'm doing well by midgame (but still eventually loose), the analysis later tells me that I was actually on a loosing spiral from move 10.
