Scams
I'm so over the stupid phone calls of recordings or people that say there something that there not.
How many scams are out the...NEVER press on a link.
And as this pandemic continues they get worse..I'm up to 7 a day..

We get 7 calls a week to buy our house.

Buy my house, please
I generally tell home buyers that I'll sell my house to them for $10 million (somewhat negotiable ). The result is that I no longer get a lot of calls from home buyers these days.

Eliminate scam calls
Answer the call. Use your "old" voice and a little interested, Say "Hold on while I get something to write with." Put the phone down and continue with whatever you were doing. When the phone starts with the Would you like to make a call message you will know that they have hung up. Since time is money to them, they will stop calling. A variation is to wait a few minutes and pick up the phone and tell them you are still looking. Put phone down and repeat.

I look at the caller ID when the phone rings. If I don't know who is calling, I don't pick up the phone. They can leave the messages in the phone recordings. If the caller is ads or from charitable organizations, usually they won't leave the message.

If I accidentally pick up the phone when it rings and found out the caller is soliciting for donations, I said I am a guest at this house and cut short the conversations and hang up.

nomorobo
Great suggestions!

With a VOIP landline or iPhone, you can use the www.nomorobo.com service. (Android is coming.) If the caller is in their database, your phone rings once, then the service hangs up. I've used it for several years & it catches the majority of the calls and has never stopped a legitimate one. I'm in the Chicago area.

Sag
Until recently, I agree that nomorobo did a good job of blocking robo calls, but it's now looking like they need some software security upgrades because the "scammers" appear to be shielding themselves from detection these days.

Also: Few people (other than some of us oldsters) appreciate what a "VOIP landline" is (see Voice over Internet protocol and/or landline).
