There are cell phones that can be used for things like this and use a prepaid phone card
that could be used in case of emergency.

For the future: I would go to the public library, which has a roomful of PC's for use by library card holders.

Use surge protectors
I learned the lesson when my Commodore computer was damaged many years ago by thunder and lightning rain storm. Since then I use surge protectors for computers and TV. Since then, I don't have a problem.
I now have 3 desktops and 2 laptops computers. When one computer does not work, I can switch on to the one that works. I have a router and repeater also to extend the range of internet. I can use my several computers in several rooms of my house at the same time.
I tried public library at one time when I was away from home. It did not work because it forbids gaming in public library. Previously, I went to nearby parking lot of hotel to get into internet. It does not work nowadays because it needs a password which is given to people only who stay at the hotel.
There are Starbucks coffee shops, book stores and cyber cafes where you can have internet access but you have to pay a fee or buy a cup of coffee to do it.
Before you throw away your computer, please check at the computer repair shop. I found out that my friend's computer was infected with a virus and by getting rid of the virus, it functions well again.

That is what the youtube video says. You have to be careful in selecting the merchandise from advertisers because they will say my product is the best although it may be a lemon. Use your judgment. I bought my surge protector at Walmart. I don't know much about them. Like a condom it may not protect 100 %.

Very smart saguaro I have a lamp that has 4 usb charging ports for 2 phones, my hearing aid charger, and my I-phone watch. all getting the power from a surge protector My T.V's are protected. My freezer and refrigerators are also protected. I think it may of been easier to just mention where I'm not using surge protectors.

yep also have microwave coffee makers, and air-fryer!
electric fireplace tv stand and sound bar I think I forgot to mention I have them on my tread mill.
The washing machine, and dryer, which is a gas dryer but has the electrical controls.

my Garage door opener which is powered by a back up battery just in case the electricity is out.
I also have 2 extra bright led garage shop lights protected and my CB Radio, yes, breaker breaker 19. I'm studying for my ham radio technician license. Not in a huge hurry as I still work so much now before retirement.

Some things you could try.
Either get CCleaner or better yet Advanced System Care by IObit and scan/clean/repair your PC and registry.
Make sure your PC has all it's updates.
Contact GK customer service and put in a ticket.
