I'm entirely lost b41581 --- where's the "duplicate comment"?

After that: There's little doubt that there are cheaters in gameknot.

Ah yes, but we can run them off. I have gotten rid of 3 so far, including the infamous stormtracker. We chase them by posting info on their deeds.

Here’s the original post:
I have found that catseye is using a computer in his tournament games. In these four games, which I sent to the Gameknot computer you will see that he, a 1500 level player, makes over 80 moves perfectly (no mistakes) according to the analysis. This is impossible for that level of player. I have reported this information to Gameknot and they seem to not want to do anything. The games are:

game

game

game

game

He tends to lose to non-tournament game in order to keep his rating low.

Avoid this player. Report any suspicious activity to Gameknot. We need to drive cheaters out of this platform.

Catseye sanctioned…
Here is the response from Gameknot:

—————————

Hello, b41581,

Thank you for flagging this to us and for your patience as our team investigated this user. We have
had complaints in the past regarding this user and we had determined that they intentionally lose
non-tournament games to keep their rating lower than what it should be. We had sent them a warning
asking them to stop trying to manipulate their ranking.

Since they have clearly chosen not to abide by our warning, we have gone ahead and restricted their
account. They will only be able to complete their active games and will not participate in further
games unless we get a written request that they will stop intentionally lose in non-tournament games
to keep their rating low.

Please let us know if you have further questions or if you need help with anything else.

Best regards,

So, if you are playing his team and get assigned this player, be aware that he cheats.

Two Million
There are almost two million players. Some will be cheaters. I'm glad you're vigilant on this, keeping folks honest.

ShirlmyGirl had a keen eye for that too.

Well, this clown is showing up in +3 mini tournaments with a top rating of ~1800 and then finishing first. Since he manages his rating to stay at 1500, you see this clown over and over. So, I have dedicated a portion of my time here at Gameknot to driving him out like I drove out stormtracker.

Shirley shirlmygirl has single handily had many rating manipulators removed from Gameknot.
stormtracker was a very obvious cheater (and later admitted). I could say much more, but
I am surprised that Gameknot gave a warning to the player mentioned above.

@mikemate: it took a concentrated campaign on my part to get Gameknot to restrict catseye. And a threat written to Gameknot later to move to another chess platform for catseye to voluntarily quit my game after some (I think) pressure from me.

I basically wrote a note to everyone catseye was playing in tournaments and he was, at that time, winning every game. Took a lot of time, but resulted in a “win” for me and awareness for others I guess.

I will say, one more instance and I’m moving platforms as these same guys find Cheaters like GMs and toss them. They are contributing to the ongoing cheating discussion revolving around Magnus Carlson and Hans Neiman at the top chess levels.

I understand your effort to have that player suspended. For years Shirley and I had many players
barred from team games for rating manipulation. It is an effort.

A cheater no doubt
There is a player who loses games on purpose in order to keep his ratings down when he plays tournaments. I’ve looked at a few of his past games, even in winning positions, he resigns. Very odd. Is there a way I can report him to this site.

Thanks

Catseye
It appears he’s at it again, pitching private games to manipulate ratings.

catseye

Every lost game is “Let’s play chess,” while 8 out of ten team games are wins. 8 out of 10 while high is too small to render any judgment, but consistently tossing private games?

Oh, I’m playing a sub 1200 and I’m up 7–time to pitch it…

I’ve looked at that game. Catseye resigns after being two pieces up. Definitely cheating.

Communication to someone who informed me of this player and the thread
Got it thanks. I read the thread and the argument and evidence against him is convincing. Just to be sure I’ll run a random sample of his games through my algorithm machine tomorrow at the office to satisfy myself. Depending on the size of the sample it can take up to two weeks. I have also reported two cheaters in my time here. One guy was from Argentina, and the other from the Middle East somewhere- I can’t remember their names, but I know both have disappeared from this platform. I have posted in our team forum as well.

You know, just yesterday I played in a friendly local tournament. It didn’t count towards FIDE, Elo or even ChessSA ratings. We just got together at a popular pizza place and played for fun. I lost against three children, the eldest being 12 years old. So what!?! It is a game, I enjoyed it, we had free pizza, and afterwards I found out that the girl of 8 and a boy of 9 was being coached by my tutor and SA number two player (+50) - Hans Steyn. Why cheat? Pride to win a child? I beat a 1800+ FIDE player yesterday! Without cheating. That more than made up for the games I lost against the children. (All three of them are over 1800). The biggest compliment I got just before we went home was when Hans came up to me and said that my game have improved significantly since 2019, and that his pupils found it very difficult to overcome me. I was elated and I am still floating on cloud 9.

I just don’t understand cheaters. Maybe it is because of my personal morals, code of conduct and inherent honesty. It is actually an injustice to one self more than the opponent, and I can see no satisfaction in it.

Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

My two-cents' worth
It is unfortunate that people cheat on this site, but apparently it happens. This club is probably the best solution, but too few captains are on it (IMHO). I appreciate being made aware of this character and will inform my co-captains. I believe that this is the most effective way to restrict such an individual. GK can kick him off and he can simply change his screen-id and re-appear like a recurring cancer.

The most difficult thing here is to understand the motivation. There is no money to be won here, no trophies, and no great fame. It is simply the result of pathetic immaturity, and it spoils the fun and intellectual challenge for others whose rating gets artificially inflated, making it harder for them to be paired with equals.

It appears that eternal vigilance and persistent reporting to GK and fellow captains are the best remedies even if they are theoretically imperfect. My additional suggestion would be to ask his captain not to pair him, let him get frustrated and seek another team and then for the captain of the team he left to inform the captain of any team that he joins of his behavior. Hopefully, he will just get frustrated and not come back, but, as I opined above, he may just change his name like a chameleon.

Here's a suggestion that is very labor-intensive but might advance the cause a little. Since not all captains read this forum, compose a message describing his behavior and send it to every captain. Simply cut-and-paste wasatch's narrative or GK's reply (or both) and send it around. What do you think?

On catseye…
Has anyone reported him to his team captain? If he gets reported on and then sanctioned, it reflects on the team. Rarely does a team get sanctioned, unless there is widespread cheating, but then other teams avoid that team.

I’d tell the team captain, but I’m not involved in teams anymore. He appears to not be allowed to play tournaments anymore while ranked 20th or so on GK’s list of top 100…most of which were cheats.

Notification
I notified his team captain.

This same player was caught cheating by someone else a couple of years ago, higher up on this same thread.

I caught it only because I review the games of my players. My teammate lost bot games to a this individual ranked two hundred points below him. Not impossible, but worth closer examination. I see a string of losses, and each is an evenly rated player but a private game. With an 8 out of 10 team game score I don’t even need to summon the games won. But the “I’m ahead 7 points, time to resign” game just irked me as blatant.

I also notified Shirlmygirl, because she has a really keen eye for such shenanigans, but she opted not to review this one.

I have also been in communication with a former team captain of this player.

Team Captains
Catseye has 17 team games running at the moment. I have notified the captains of all the opposing teams regarding this thread.

It would be interesting if those games could be cancelled without interfering with the scores. Forcing draws would deflate the ratings of the challenged players.

Catseye
I see he isn't a member of a team now!!
