Blitz Chess
Just played my first blitz chess game. My opponent resigned. I was kicking ass to start with, then made some blunders. It appears the game isn't saved.

Welcome to you all. We have new moderators that have new policies that hopefully we can all have some fun without the issues that the old club had. I really do hope that you all enjoy yourselves...new topics are a bonus...so again...Welcome to you all.

Although I have played blitz chess on a board a number of times, I yesterday completed my first blitz game on the gameknot system. The person I played had a 1200 rating. Sorry fella --- I did not intend to discourage you with my 2-queen mate move.

1200
I think everyone starts out with a 1200 Blitz rating.

Good morning to you all. My name is Riaan- short for Adriaan- and I am from South Africa. I am captain of SWAT. I joined this site in September 2009, floated around a bit and eventually joined this team after a short stint in in team Intrepidus. I was soon promoted to co-captain and shortly after to captain. I have a more comprehensive bio on my profile page. Above all I value honesty, integrity and being fair. That applies to my whole life, not just to this website. Many of you know me already. and for those who don't yet, feel welcome to contact me over a friendly game. I am not good, but I recently started taking lessons from a local master in Pretoria and I hope to improve. So far, I must admit that I don't see anything happening, but I'll stick to it.

Welcome Riaan! How are those knees of yours doing these days? Did our prayers help?
Ah, thanks for asking. First of all, let me reiterate: going into the operation, both myself and the orthopedic surgeon understood that his initial assessment may be optimistic and the problem worse than either of us thought. So, while I lay in recovery, I woke up enough to ask the surgeon what his verdict was on the knee. His answer short and to the point: Bad. I have to go back in three months to get the knee replacement Besides that, I'm almost pain free; I have a lot less pain now than before the operation! He re-aligned the bones, put in a synthetic sinew or ligament (or something) and cleaned up the mess as best he could, in preparation for the following one. The elbow was successful and I am happy. So I'll be seeing him soon.
Glad to hear you are in much less pain! I hope the knee replacement goes well.

Shamash
Welcome to the club, Shamash. Long time no see, brother. Do ya think ya can beat me yet?

Riaan
Sounds like our prayers worked, huh?
That is possible, Sir.
It's difficult to confirm, Riaan, because God works in such mysterious, incomprehensible ways.

Hello
My name is bevo and I am a chess addict. I can't help myself. I get up in the morning craving a hit of chess. I spend the entire morning enjoying the high of playing chess. I try to get out of my chair and quit, but I can't stay away more than a few minutes. The withdrawal when I am away from GameKnot is excruciating. I must get back and get another hit. I have tried recovery clinics, but I quickly fall back into my old ways once I can logon again. I even tried to sneak a phone into the clinic so I could enjoy the thrill of another game. I'm afraid I will overdose some day and die with the mouse in my hand. If anyone can help, please let me know how to break this terrible habit.

My name is Emma Josefine and I am maybe the youngest captain? I live in Oslo with my husband, Hrein. I am a third year medical student. I would love to get some advice how to be a good and polite captain. I do not want to hurt anyone...never!
From my side I can tell you all that Emma is most accommodating with challenges, and willing to engage when a problem exist. Since I first spoke to Emma she has been nothing but kind, courteous and very respectful. I get along very well with her. Once you get to know her you shall find that she is fair.
Thank you, Riaan! I greatly appreciate your reply!
Never had a problem with the Stonehenged Tribe. Always fair matches
Thank you, Alessandro!
Hi Emma!
I agree with Riann & Alessandro!
Thank you, Dave! Try as best I can. But I accept constructive criticism...always! I have a lot to learn....
Emma
I like the captains who politely explain the facts when declining matches, rather than getting upset & insulting, as some do. Also, captains who send fair challenges, or explain why a challenge that seems unfair might actually be so.
Thanks, will do.
Emma
You already do!
Yes, but I can use more words when I am declining matches, not only " 90 days rating too high"......
