Team SWAT also needs co-captains, but more importantly we would like to recruit female players. We have one female player only. That is a crying shame- the girls are always welcome at SWAT.

I think most of the girls are on sixth sense with a female captain Elena.

The Mountain Men
have three women on the team, and a one former co-captain was female.

That is embarrassing....didn´t know about all the women in Sixth Sense...after all this years...

Emma, I am the secretary of the Pretoria Chess Club. One of the goals of the club this year is to recruit more female players. We only have one woman who plays regularly, and about five who play from time-to-time. We are really trying hard to convince the women to play consistently and often. One of the things that I was told, is that some men are very chauvinistic and bombastic, and when they lose against a woman they become extremely upset. This is why the women are not eager to join.

I, on the other hand, don't mind against whom I lose. I have lost 6 times in one day against a boy of 11 last year. I have lost all three my games against the girl who plays regularly- and each time it was a bloodbath! She is very good, much better than am I. But it is the game that counts, not the opponent. Some of the men, especially the older ones with a huge ego, do not like to play her for fear of losing to a woman. I find that hilarious. They don't mind losing to a man with a lower rating, but to lose to a girl is really a problem for them, even if her rating is 2000+.

I lost against her father last night. He is on this website as well: pokser. She and the club president was still playing when I went home, so I am curious to see how she did against him when the results are published later today.

Anyway, the point I want to make is that some men believe they are superior to women by virtue of gender. Not so- in chess superiority must be earned, not assumed. I will always break a lance for the ladies, though not many need a chivalrous hero to step in for them; they can manage their defense very well on their own.

Thank you Riaan for your female support. I can not understand why men and women are not in the same competitions. It shouldn´t be necessary to have them separated in for example the world championship. Here on Gameknot, I have always been treated with respect, from everyone. And most of the members are men over 50. So thank you to you all!

Chess Lovers
Chesslover03 22% of his total GK games are games he is playing right now.

He started out pretty bad, losing one game to Alberta. She has played 44,000 games.

But I guess he is getting the hang of it. Created the team just last month. One 20 game winning streak.
