New at GAMEKNOT
Was recommended to join GAMEKNOT by a friend and this is a fabulous place to play Chess (I'm not that good at it though).

Let me retract on that...

Of course I'm good at Chess I'm kind of rated between 1200 and 1400 so I'm good at chess at my current stage in chess.

Most important thing is to have fun WIN DRAW or LOSE.

I joined a Team THE FORCE

Team Games
Well I like to play very fast games, but my Captain has set me up with 4 games against a player who makes moves almost every 2 days.

I don't think I will be playing team matches for long as I actually make moves in minutes my opponent takes days.

Furthermore my opponent has many timeouts and his past rating is high. I think Team games are not for me!

I won my first team game though and we had a fun game and both played fast moves

Further to my above Team comment
I made myself unavailable for further team games and intend to leave the team once I finished all the 12 or so games which I'm allocated to.

Have you communicated your preference for fast games to your captain? Many of the team pages show player's preferences.

I cant see any preferences for fast games. But I would have thought that its common sense for a captain to match fast players with other fast movers. Or am I wrong and all captains match fast players against slow players when there is no "preference" in place.

I'm quite taken back about this as I would never match myself against a player who takes one or more days to make a move.

On the team page for The Force, gameknot.com, there are preferences for several players in the Message to Team Captains.

You said "... am I wrong and all captains match fast players against slow players when there is no "preference" in place".

I would change that to "some captains".

jimpanzee you've got a good Captain at "the Force" who will add your preferences to the team home page if you stay ... Riccardo already does this for his players ...

Matching you twice against the same player is a mistake in my opinion...but it's done ... you can set the amount of team games your comfortable with by going to team settings ...once the team know what you want you can change anytime... which could help as your on a very active team !

If you haven't set any preferences a Captain will assume your ok with their choices unless you let them know

Thank You
Thank You for assistance. However, there is something which I am confused about. Its about my team rating. I have finished three team games against players rated in 1300s like I am. Yet my team rating is in the 1500s. Why is that, as I won three games against players who are the same rating as me.

Individual team rating
Your individual team rating is "provisional" for the first 20 team games. For the first 20 team games, GameKnot starts by taking the team rating for each opponent, then adds 400 if you won the game, or subtracts 400 if you lost the game. Next, GameKnot averages these numbers to get your provisional individual team rating.

You may be thinking, 1300 + 400 = 1700, so why isn't my team rating close to 1700 since I won all three games? Well, adjustments to the individual team rating are based not upon the opposing player's rating but instead upon the opposing player's team rating. From the looks of it, at the time your games ended, your opponents' team ratings were 1070, 1078, and 1142. [(1070 + 400) + (1078 + 400) + (1142 + 400) / 3] = 4490/3 = 1497. And, okay, 1497 is not 1504. So evidently one or more of your opponents had a slightly higher team rating when the game began than that opponent had when the game ended.

After the provisional period ends, postgame adjustments to the team rating become more complicated   but will generally be approximately +10 points for a win, 0 points for a draw, and -10 points for a loss.

Wow
That's a FAB explanation. Thank You pmcmurphy! I'm losing a few team games, but its very exiting playing team games win draw or lose

Team Rating
Ratings are explained here: gameknot.com. The examples at the bottom show why your team rating is near 1500.

It appears that the team rating for the first 20 team games are handled like the first 20 regular games (except for the 1200 rating during the first 5 regular games).

You defeated players whose team ratings are now 1142, 1070 & 1078. Your team rating is thus around ((1142+400) + (1070+400) + (1078+400))/3 = (1542 + 1470 + 1478)/3 = 1497.

The difference between your current team rating of 1504 & 1497 must be due to those opponents team ratings not being the same then as now.
