![]() The team rating system uses the same Elo rating system as is used for the player ratings. But each team is treated as an individual player. Example: To begin the day on April 5, ✨💥TEAM ATTITUDE💥✨ won a game versus Cowboys and Cowgirls of the Old West. For team rating purposes, it makes no difference which players were involved. ✨💥TEAM ATTITUDE💥✨ was rated 1375 at the time the game ended; Cowboys and Cowgirls of the Old West was rated 1291 at the time the game ended. Based on the Elo formula and the 84-point difference between the teams in team rating (1375-1291=84), ✨💥TEAM ATTITUDE💥✨ gained 8 rating points for the win; Cowboys and Cowgirls of the Old West lost 8 rating points for the loss. After the postgame rating adjustments, ✨💥TEAM ATTITUDE💥✨'s new rating became 1383. The new rating for Cowboys and Cowgirls of the Old West became 1283. |

![]() Team Ladder teams typically score close to 50% in their team games, long-term. A conclusion that I eventually reached is that Team Ladder teams all have a "true" team rating that is close to the median rating (which is 1274 at the moment). However much above or below the median a Team Ladder team is at a given time is mostly due to short-term variance, I think. (My team's average team rating during 2023 was 1271. I suspect that that is fairly typical for a Team Ladder team.) During a month of 500+ games, my team's lowest rating for the month usually falls in the 1100s while my team's highest rating for the month is usually somewhere in the 1300s. Occasionally my team's rating reaches the 1400s, but it has not so far during 2024. The Press Gang has a "true" team rating much higher than 1274. It accomplishes this by scoring ~73% in its team games, long-term. |

![]() I had difficulty at the time reaching an understanding for myself of what the team ratings measured. I have since satisfied myself that a team's rating at a given moment gives a decent indication of how well that team has been doing in its most recent team games. The team rating still strikes me as a peculiar statistic, though. Do team ratings exist outside of GameKnot? It occurs to me that GameKnot may have created the team ratings ~20 years ago as they exist on GameKnot in order to facilitate competition on the Team Table. |
