Going a bit overboard with your chess games?
Its up to you.Play all the games you want at one time.Perhaps you have a gold or titanium membership and MUST play the limit most of the time...hey you paid for that premium membership, and your going to get your moneys worth!Your having so much fun and adrenaline rush, your going to play tons of games at one time...win,lose,draw...who cares?More, more more!
Your rating?Does not matter,who cares!Whatever rating I get,I get!Maybe all these games will improve me a bit,maybe not,I really could care less,and whatever the end result is,it is....hey,its only a game!

Is this your way of thinking or playing...or do you know someone who is like this?

TA hopes not!!!

An example?
gameknot.com

Now,i'm not saying that this player does not care about her rating, but you can plainly see that no real improvement has been accomplished in over 30,000 games! And that includes 1178 time-outs! 14,618 wins...but 13,051 losses. So its a close to break even record with very little rating increase since 2003.She was one of the earliest players still on GK.

And notice she is playing 154 games at one time!

So,is there really any true advantage to playing all those games at one time except for that love of chess?

Answer:No.

Again, its up to you.I advise against doing the same!

That is IF you truly want to improve.Playing less games in a qualitative fashion, not quantitatively is key!

Don't really care about improving?Want to stay at your present rating year after year, decade after decade, give or take a few rating points?

Then play like cheeky_knight!

So beat her record!Pay for a titanium membership and play 200 games at one time!
Why not?Go for it!!!!Then ask GK to start a diamond membership so you can play 400 games at one time!!!!Why not?Sky's the limit!

Really?

And that is why I am at 2373 right now and will be at 2500 again in a year or two....playing only 1 to 5 games at a time maximum!!!!

And my adrenaline and excitement is even HIGHER than hers...for the end result is mastering the game unlike her and reaching lofty rating goals that she will never see ever.If that is not exciting,I do not know what is!

Its all a state of mind.

Do I need to play 154 games at one time? Trust me,if I had all the time in the world, and was a billionaire to do as I please,I would never, under any circumstance play even 50 games at one time!I find that illogical.True thrill lies in defeating the strongest players on GK,not just average rated players. How do I accomplish this?By taking the time to slow down and study over the years....and by playing less games, not more.

So,are you a cheeky_knight want to be,making a big record of over 30,000 games played or do you want to be like me heading slowly, very slowly towards 2500 and can crush masters like a foot stomping down on a paper bag?

Its your choice,think wisely!

Again,I say it the way it is,like it or not.Its my "wake up and smell the coffee" way of showing you the true light of reality with respect to correspondence chess and personal performance capabilities that you may have...or not have depending upon your chess playing habits and study abilities.

Sometimes the truth hurts, but must be told, either way.Realism is not pessimism, nor is it anything but constructive criticism, not destructive criticism.Remember that readers!

Again, after 48 years of playing chess and quadruple tons of experience in OTB,corresp,USCF postal chess,TD experience and a huge wall of chess trophies, win certificates,4000 chess books...mostly all read and more, have a seniors masters rating, both OTB and corresp....have I learned a few tiny bits of wisdom to pass on to you readers?Take a wild guess!

So when I say,do not ever play 154 games at one time(for any reason)...is there any wisdom in that statement?

No need to answer that one!Take a triple wild guess!

Timing and reality...
Lets do a bit of TA's "hyper math" as I call it with injected parameters.

Ok,follow my logic for a moment.

Lets take cheeky_knight as an example again.Actually, there are others who play MORE games than cheeky_knight at one time, but i'll start with her and my special math.

So....

159 games being played at one time. But look at her profile. It states "average move time"is
one day(24 hours).

Lets break that down into a more realistic readable number!

First of all,my hyper formula involves reality and life.

She must sleep and she probably has a job. So,she is more than likely NOT playing and thinking about her 159 chess game moves for more than approx 7 to 8 hours in a 24 hour period.....

Sleep averages 8 hours and work averages 8 hours + drive time back and forth to work, eat time when home, ect ect.

So here goes the math!

24 hours minus 17 hours(minimum) for sleep,work,eating and drive time = 7 hours(approx)
Meaning 8 hours sleep,8 hours of work and one hour to eat over the course of waking hours.

So that is about 7 hours in a 24 hour day that she can respond to 159 games!!!!Perhaps she sleeps a bit less, but the numbers will not change that much,so we will stick with 8 hours of sleep.

There are 60 minutes in an hour and 60 X 7 hours= 420 minutes she has to respond to 159 GK chess games.

Getting the picture now?

Final hyper life formula math:

420 divided by 159 games= 2.64 minutes to respond on average maximum to all those games and practically no time to check her moves.

If she slept on 7 hours, she would have approx 3 minutes and a few seconds to spend on each game.

Now,TA's hyper math formula would change if she did not have a job,was perhaps disabled and spend a full 15 hours or so a day to make moves in all 159 games. But that would still only be double the amount of time of say,5 or 6 minutes max per game.Still a terrible amount of time, unless you could give a hoot about improving your game play.

So,what was that I hear from players all over GK that blitz play is not good for your correspondence games and can hurt the way you end up playing in your correp play if you play too many blitz games?

Hmmmmmm.

What is cheeky_knight doing then?

Answer:She is actually playing a form of longer time control blitz, not correspondence play!!!!!

Trust me,if you are taking only 1 to 2.64 minutes to respond for an individual chess move(and I think my formula is probably accurate for cheeky_knight) in a game that actually has 2 or 3 day time control limits per move, YOU ARE playing a form of blitz!!!!

Again,a "wake up and smell the coffee" formula for those who say they will not play blitz but actually are playing it!!!

I've seen some GK players playing 180-200 games at one time.Their rating graph looks like the flat line of the deceased after someone in the hospital shouts "code blue"!!!

Hmmmm...the aroma of coffee!

Of course,my coffee always tastes better, since I actually take the time to savor it,smell it and consume it slowly. Not gulp it down at the number 159!!!More like 5 or 6 games!

Get my drift and the math now, readers?
