opening computer book ideas and viewpoints...
This thread will be in line with any discussions related to computer opening chess programs available today, plus's,minus's,quality that can be used with or without an interface such as Fritz. This thread is not to be confused with discussions on "opening books"like a paperback book on some opening. Some areas of MY specific opening book that I developed alongside of a senior master programmer friend of mine in NYC I will actually NOT reveal, since it is kind of a "trade secret"among custom "bookies"not to reveal their entire outlay recipe in their own custom book, like I have. Its keep the "edge"so to speak in some of my games here and elsewhere at my level of play.

I am quite aware that many of you guys use the GK opening book.I'm not sure how many in this club kind of rely on the GK book or have their own?The GK opening book is,shall I say,"ok",but it certainly is not on par with many of the better opening books out on the market today.Keep in mind that any opening book is legal to use in your correspondence games,no matter how long its tree is,no matter how many % stats it generates and more.Whats NOT legal is the use of a computer analysis program like Fritz,Shredder or others to analyze your games for you, even though the "opening book"may have to be installed in your fritz chess program. There are still players on GK that do not fully understand this,or do understand but cheat anyway.Remember, use of an opening book is legal, just like reading an opening paperback book on an opening and opening variation, but using an analysis program is not.
Some players kind of think that using any opening book is cheating in itself.I can understand their viewpoint, but I disagree on that viewpoint. For historical "knowledge"on any game through a paperback book or a sophisticated electronic book like the "Rybka book"is simply a matter of passing on educational knowledge about a success rate in an opening or subvariational line within that opening.and using this knowledge is considered "acceptable",at least in most chess circles up to an including the GM level in tournaments.

Ever consider creating your own opening book? You can do it!But its not for the novice!I'll give you a general discussion link here on that subject, just to wet your appetite:
