 I have been asked many times about my favorite chess bookBut "I"am from the "old school".And you would be surprised at MY favorite chess book! Its more of a reference book,but has many delightful game stories,theories,book lines,subvariant tree lines with footnotes and more.Its not a book to entertain with any pictures,other than chess board pictures. I have used it to win games in the thousands over the decades.It's technically "outdated" but the bulk of its information is true and accurate.Its what millions of chess players call..."their chess Bible"! Now,I have over 3,000 chess books in my library,some still packed away since I am moving to Ibiza soon.But which book do I prefer to grab for a quick reminder reference on openings and midgames? Answer: Modern Chess Openings(MCO-15) by Nick de Firmian. He was a three time US chess champion. That book has a wealth of info in it for most openings. At times it is a bit skimpy on some irregular openings like a Basman Defense and does not cover too much on the Trompowski for white,but everything else is vast info indeed. If you must have at least one book ,it should be MCO-15! Its fairly heavy and about 2 inches thick. Just my book tip for the day! In this club,I have other book recommendations or will have soon! |
