My GK rated blitz thread for you and me....
I will probably have more than one post on rated GK blitz and anyone in the club is invited to
contribute. In the past, many of you are,or were aware of my famous(I think famous?)Queen
sacrifice games that I played unrated for fun, entertainment and real learning purposes.I added in much twisted gallows humor for spice. That was simply my way of raising a few eyebrows!
I have many of those unrated Queen sac(by move #3) games already in a separate post in the club.Look them up and get shocked.Who would do such a thing?Answer:Me!

But this time around and eventually it will be nearly the same...but rated!!!!That will only be
one style(the sacrifices, like Queen,Rooks and more EARLY in the game).I will post regular rated blitz games that I deem worthy of showing you...with some annotation. Some with sacs and others straight up,no sacs.I do not want to bore you with only losing a Queen in the opening and then winning....but also posting regular blitz games with no sac.Eventually(I hope)my friends from other blitz sites will come visit me in the blitz room! Then I will show you some REAL action, posts and annotations! My old friends from Instanchess and other blitz sites are real killers! They even scare me!!!Some are rated 2700-2800+!!Those,I know I will not sac my Queen with!I may be mad,but not stupid, especially in rated blitz!!!

Ahhhhh...but no sacs now!!!See,I am in the process of trying to build up my rated blitz rating on
GK FIRST,before I go on a rampage and show you my skills. Its kind of rating "insurance"
just in case someone was to defeat me in a sac game or two, which would cost me too many
points for NOW.Later,if I am say....2200 or higher,maybe then.So far,there is NOTHING to
brag about with my blitz opponents. Most of them are 1200-1400 rated and I only get
"trickle points"for my 99.9% wins.See my records! What my opponents do not know is that
I am a 2530 rated blitz player on other sites!!But let me do things with a system of buildup
rating first.

So far to date and as of 5/16/23,my blitz rating is only 1958....much higher than anyone I have encountered yet.But that is a puny blitz rating is still peanuts to me!!!So,just wait...there is a storm brewing on the horizon, but I won't unleash its fury quite yet!

Well,enough of my rants!

Anyone can chat about the new blitz here or post any of their memorable blitz games here.
You are also FREE to start a new post for your own blitz games...does not matter to me!

As to my time signatures?(FYI):
Usually,my style of expertise and what I have trained for is: 5 min, zero incremental time.
I also do play 3 min, zero incremental time if I am WIDE awake and have limbered up
my right mouse hand!See,if I am losing pieces and my opponent is about to mate me,that does not necessarily mean that they will win!I switch strategies, duck, weave, hide and many times simply time him out!!That is my style with no added time! That infuriates many of my opponents!

My answer to them?:Good! You came to MY 5 min, zero increment game...now learn! One of the keys in winning with zero increment is playing styles with openings that I am very familiar with and then give INSTANT responses...like one second! No thinking!Eventually after say,3 min into the game,I can usually relax a small bit, since I have built up my time advantage, sometimes OVER one minute in a five minute game! That is a mountain of extra time in 5 minutes! There are a thousand tricks to becoming a good or great blitz player.Even the type of mouse you use and the surface your mouse rides on can make the difference between wins and losses.More on that later.

If anyone is new to blitz either rated or unrated or even a player that has been playing for years
but just can't seem to get much of a higher rating or win more games, just ask away!
If anyone on GK can answer your questions or try and help you out....it is me.I can give you a hundred tips or more. But it actually boils down to you,I can only do so much for you.It is you that plays the games and experience, trial and error...using a few of my techniques that will help, but only to a certain degree level.Blitz is NOT always a good thing. It must be played in moderation, unless you have no desire to play any regular games on GK,non blitz.Blitz can teach you a host of tactical scenarios or let you experiment with various openings or irregular openings like I have for decades. But playing too much blitz can psychologically shape your mind by making you rush your moves in regular correspondence games.Impatience can develop and many other things. But putting the negatives aside, blitz will offer you a new and exciting world with fast results. Some players get on a "blitz fix"like the need for coffee(or weed?)and must play everyday.
Others, like myself, have learned to clam down and take blitz in stride.

My first win against a senior master, well, kind of!?
[Event "GameKnot Blitz"]
[Site "gameknot.com"]
[Date "2023.05.17"]
[Round "-"] 5 min,zero increment
[White "mikimak"] 2531 CC, 1642 Blitz rating
[Black "sound-studio_pro"] 2432 CC,1964 Blitz rating
[Result "0-1"]

1. e4 c5 2. a3 g6 3. b4 Bg7 4. c3 d5 5. exd5 Qxd5 6. Nf3 Nc6 7. b5 Ne5 8. Nxe5 Bxe5 9. Be2 Qxg2 10. Bf3 Qh3 11. d4 cxd4 12. cxd4 Bxd4 13. Qxd4 Qxf3 14. Qxh8 Bg4 15. Nc3 O-O-O 0-1

Game over in 15 moves!
Mikimak may be a senior master, but he plays like a 1600 player for real in his 5 min blitz.
Unless he was drunk,if I were him,I would stay away from blitz! He made a series of weak moves early on,but his major mistake started on move 9.Be2,Qxg2!That should have been easy to spot and easy to avoid,at least partially with...9.Be2 instead. But his game fell apart earlier
with 4.c3 that blocked his Knight on b1.Instead would have been better: 4.Nc3 and then with my 4....d6,that would have equalized the positions on both sides.I can get into more detail, but that will have to do it for now.So mikimik has had his first encounter with the madman....me!I will sharpen up my chainsaw even more before we meet again....because i have no doubt that he will be out for revenge!Good...I hope! For i have not even begun to put the pressure on....yet!

Todays brief thoughts on blitz...
Many good and bad things have been said about blitz of any time signature level. Both views are true, but only to an extent.Blitz usage in excessive amounts over time, can many times hurt your regular GK CC play.It can have a negative psychological impact on you, even "subconsciously" to a level where it could tend to rush your moves and/or produce less qualitative play with LESS deeper positional strategy and more on rushed tactical play.In other words...it can"unbalance"and unravel the way you play your long GK games.

On the other hand, blitz, when played in moderation and as long as you DON'T get addicted to it(easier said than done),can have very beneficial results for a player in their long CC games on GK.I have a post in the club which gets into blitz more. But for now,my thoughts of today want to express that those 5 minute games can yield a bigger picture and more insight into not only your strengths and weakness's but your opponents strong and weak points that can and do extend in to both your long games and your opponents games. In addition, you can experiment with various openings for white and black, especially unrated that you would normally not do in a rated CC game. But later on,after you explored the blitz versions and they work, then you can apply the same strategy to your long games.

Lets just say that blitz has helped me out in immeasurable ways over the decades.
I have found out,as unbelievable as it may sound, that many of my opponents blitz
moves mirror their long CC games,by less superior opening, pawn swap weakness,
light and dark square control weakness's and much more.Just because you have
3 days to make a move does not mean that you will "automatically"play better than
your 5 minute blitz game!!!Many times yes,but not always to the FULL extent!
See,patterns develop with some players and they REPEAT their errors, both major
and minor in their 3 day games, just the same or almost the same as in a 5 minute game!!

Now this is where the fun starts! When I play someone who is around my rating on any
blitz site(not so much on GK yet due to not many very strong players attending),
I copy and paste that game into my files for full analysis and as a reminder to me
where and how they went either astray or had some very interesting strong points
that may have set me back or caused me to lose. Then,I cross compare those blitz
game(s) to a series of their long games in their past game history files. You would
be surprised at many of the mirror comparisons! It takes work and dedication, but
I end up "fine tuning"a FUTURE WEAPON that I can use against a player that plays
both blitz and CC.For those who do not play blitz...well,that is a different post!!!
Weakness does cross correlate "sometimes"between blitz and long CC.Not everyone
will want to do the detective work that I do and may find it boring, but those who
take the journey may find hidden rewards you never knew existed.

Milestone #1.But miles to go before I sleep....
Today, while I was sitting on the Colombier Beach in St Barts, sipping a King Kong Splash, soaking up some rays and using my Ipad,I reached my first milestone in blitz with this rating:

2000

Using 5 minutes/0 incremental time

But that took exactly 267 games to reach it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I lost only ONE game in 267 games with NO draws!!!!And that game I lost was due
to a mouse slip, falling asleep!I SERIOUSLY DOUBT ANYONE on GK has reached 2000
as of yet!If you know of anyone...please PM me!!!!I would be interested in knowing
who it is!!You perhaps?Good....impress me!

What the ****?Insanity x 10.

See,all my opponents so far have been low rated...from 1200 to 1600+ at most!
That is their blitz rating, not their GK CC game rating.

Talk about a grind?Well,it sure is.Yes,I am taking candy from many babies who are not
blitz pro's like me,but it may take at least a year or more for some of those babies to
grow up with their ratings,so they can begin to challenge me!Otherwise,I will never
reach milestones that I have had on other blitz sites....2500 and more!!!At the SLOW
rate of just reaching 2000 after 267 games,it would probably take(on GK) 3 more years
to reach my old 2500 rating on blitz sites like Instantchess and others. And I do not have
time and patience to play another 3000 games to reach a few more hundred points!
I am use to getting about 5-7 points for most wins per game on other sites. On GK?
It what I call...."trickle points"....0.1,0.6 and sometime a whopping 1 point!That is like
walking a mile to your destination, but taking tiny one inch steps in doing it!

Yes...it will be miles to go before I sleep!Well just some FYI!
Well, enough of my rants....bartender...another King Kong Splash please!!
And don't forget to put the umbrella in the drink this time!Where's my suntan
lotion?

No,no..I read your mind.
Your thinking....well,it took me 267 games or more to reach 2000!
Ahhhh..but did YOU win 99.99% of ALL your games and have no draws for that 2000 rating?
If so,you SHOULD be MUCH higher than 2000!
So...think again! The math is not the same with most GK CC games when making comparisions and contrast thoughts like that!See how long it takes YOU to reach 2000 or more on ANY GK blitz series of games at ANY time level 5,10 minutes,or whatever!Let me know next year when you reach 2000.In the meantime,I have to turn over before I get too burned on my back. This Caribbean sun can fool you.
