New Club membership
Hallo to everybody! I'm Italian (so I beg your pardon for my English) and I think I fit very well with the purposes of the club, because I'm listening and reading about jazz (mainly) and blues, playing and studying chess since more than 30 years (unfortunately I'm rather old!). As I've no idea of what means to be a member of this club, I kindly ask to everybody wants to explain me something. Thank you and ciao!!

Ziobilly...
Hey it is good to see a few people like yourself joining the Jazz & Blues Club.... It has been very quiet here
for some time... I think the idea of the club is to share our musical experiences and to share our favourite
artists..... I've got a few that is for sure..... Hey, steady on about the age thing, ;-( I am five years older than
you...

qiwi advice
I wrote an answer message to qiwi and he suggested to me to post my message in order to share my opinions and favourite artists. So I post good part of my original message:
'Regarding my favourite artists, undoubtedly John Lee Hooker for blues, a true giant. I really adore his early Chess records whit his magnetic voice, a guitar a little out of tune, his foot's beat on a wooden floor and nothing else! Fantastic!! Obviously I also like some other blues-men, but we can speak about them another time. Instead, in jazz it depends from the period. I mean: I hear all historical periods of jazz (New Orleans, Swing, Be-Bop, Free Jazz, etc.) and for each of them I've got my favourites. But there is a name above all, in my humble opinion, a musician who is considered by many critics as the most influential and talented (including all the music genres, classical, jazz, rock, etc.) among USA-born musicians: Duke Ellington. Someone has called him the Black Bach! I'm really fond of him and I own about 100 Ellington's records, including vinyl, CD and MP3 (and musicassette also..). What do you think about this? Ciao!

BLUES IS A HEALER.......
www.youtube.com
This of course is not classic John Lee Hooker but I still love his collaborations with Carlos Santana....
I mentioned to Zio that I recently came across a couple of CDs , one by Earl "Fatha" Hines and the other by
Jimmy Lunceford..... I found them in a second hand shop and they are German pressings and have been
digitally remastered.... considering the Jimmy Lunceford tracks were recorded around the mid thirties the
sound quality is brilliant.... ah, the wonders of modern technology...
Jimmy Lunceford was more of a band leader and arranger but he played a variety of woodwind instruments
and was a maestro on the guitar.... amazing arrangements that sound quite modern....

Hooker, 'Fatha' & Lunceford
Hi qiwi, Hooker is great and I like Santana too (he's making a living with that two-notes solo..!), but 'One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer' is forever!!! (in the same 'Youtube' page...). I heard 'Fatha' solo live maybe late sixties or early seventies in Padova, an enduring memory! You can get an idea of that set listening records like 'Blues in Thirds' (1965) or 'Spontaneous Exploration' (1972). The second is a rare Italian vinyl that I passed on CD... Lunceford was an electric shock when I herd his orchestra on record more than 30 years ago... 'For Dancers Only', 'Lunceford Special', 'Stratosphere', 'Uptown Blues' and so on, what wonderful tunes with Sy Oliver's arrangement... But I suggest you another name of the far past of jazz: Fletcher Henderson! What do you think about him? Ciao!

One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer....
Zio.... That would have been the better track to post a link to.... much more in the classic John Lee Hooker
style.
