Help renew my faith!
Just got off Youtube, catching football highlights, (all forms of it,) and it began to burn my biscut about how some of the people there were talking about the American game. They called it a wuss sport, and not anywhere near as hard as other forms. Having played it myself, along with rugby and soccer, I can tell you from first hand experience that it is not as easy as he might think. I know that I would like to change a few things about American footy, but that doesn't mean that it is a wuss sport. I used to think that the English speaking peoples had some kind of a kinship, considering that all of us...ALL OF US...owe our existence to England, a land that I love nearly as much as I love my own! Please tell me that they were just some ignorant boobs, and that us Americans are not so hated across the English speaking lands I know I don't hate England, Scotland, hey, I even love you shackle draggin' Aussies, (said with the utmost of respect, mind you, no harm intended. Most Americans were shackle draggers as well.) Please renew my faith, somehow....

early morning ramblings...
now now paladin, do calm down. breathe.. that's it.. just remember that the world wide web is also full of world wide idiots, who know nothing about nothing and take the greatest delight informing the world of their idiocy.. they're world class at it too! Also there are those who post on the WWW just so they can rile good men like yourself, simply because they can, just pop over to our idiot thread and give them their very own sign;)
As for me, I'm not qualified to make such a decision about American football, I've never really watched it. but from what I've seen it looks like a pretty mean game.

As for the American haters, there is plenty of that about unfortunately, the same as there are English haters out there.. just ask the Welsh, Scottish and Irish;) in fact most other countries out there too, who do you think shackled the USA and Australia? if you ever study our history, it's not hard to see why;) Sadly people confuse the people with the country or should I say governments!

Just rise above it and give them their sign;)
well like I said, it's early morning, that's my pennies worth till later..

Football is our sport, our pride. If you play football, you're a man.

Soccer on the other hand I've always seen as the sport for the queers

Woah, ease up Cody.
Have you ever played soccer? I have, for about six years. Whoever said it was a non-contact sport lied to you! The difference is this: soccer is somewhat of a contact sport...American football is a COLLISION sport, (said by a famous NFL coach.) I would like to see some 325 lbs offensive lineman run for 90 minutes solid without getting a heart attack or stroke. It would be even more funny to see him try to slide tackle. Although, he would be difficult to take down in a slide tackle, unless you got all your weight and momentum behind the ball. And when he hits the ground...at least an 8.2 on the Richter scale!

Thank you Daddysgirl
I appreciate your frankness, and kind words. I will reiterate, I have always loved England, and little will change that. And, speaking for my country...sorry about the tea;) Then again, I think that would be a typical English reaction, anyway. Think about it: no red blooded Englishman is going to pay more for his cup of tea than another Englishman, especially to another Englishman, just because he happens to be 3,000 miles away, (bully, bully, harumph, harumph.) Also, I believe England saved the world in WWII. They were the only country left standing against the Nazi juggernaut, and gave them the smack across the nose they deserved. If you guys had fallen, (with the readiness of the U.S. in a sorry shape at that moment,) well...I cringe to think of the outcome. I think of Churchill's comment on that: But if we lose, it will mean the start of a new dark age, made more sinister, and perhaps even more protracted, by perverted science. I loved his attitude to the German ambassador in 1938, when that man had the boldness and audacity to spell out Hitler's plan for the world WHEN he ruled it, as if that were a foregone conclusion. I loved what Churchill told him, after he told him that England would never support Germany on this matter, and the ambassador told him, "In that case, war is inevitable. The Furher is determined in his plans. Nothing shall stop him...and nothing shall stop us."
Churchill said, "When you talk of war, which in no doubt will be general war, I would not underestimate England. She is a peculiar country, and few foreigners have been able to understand her mind. And there is no telling what kind of actions might be taken by this Parliament, if this is presented to them. Do not count out England. If you plunge us all into another great war, you shall bring the whole world against you--like last time!"
Did that man have moxie, or what? That is the most genteel way I have ever heard someone tell some idiot, "Up yours!"
God, I love England.

Hey, I just saw the convicts club, and put my name in! I may be an American, but we do have our share of shackle draggers here as well, (although I wonder how it was that Australia got their independence without having to go through the rigmarole that we did.)

easy, we were to far away for them to bother with. Technically, the Queen is still the head of state but she doesn't have any practical role.

Of course, people do not realize that, by the Magna Carta, the crown still has power over Great Britain, it all depends on whether or not the crown wants to be involved with the operations of Parliament, or to just sit back and let Parliament take care of business, and only intervene when absolutely necessary. Many people do not realize that, just as WWII was starting, the British government collapsed. They also do not realize that, because of the chaos, King George VI took direct control of affairs and APPOINTED Churchill as PM by royal decree. Yes, folks, the crown is not a figurehead, the crown still has power.
