So we've been talking about great guitarists, and I'm the only one to mention Gilmour? I can't be the only one who likes Pink Floyd, surely? I actually get why people don't understand Radiohead, you either like whiny music or you don't, and boy can Thom Yorke whine. But come on, Glimour is one of the true greats, second only to the man himself, Hendrix. And Jeff, yes, I said Clapton was dull. You said U2 were good. We're so far apart it's unreal. U2 were good when they sounded raw, ie their first album, then it went downhill fast. It just became junk food for the brain, like REM, another band who sounded good when they were almost a little punk, then went crap when they made radio music. Clapton was good when he was young, then he just got boring. He might be a technically brilliant guitarist, but it doesn't please my ears. Give me something raw anyday, that's why I love Hendrix, that's why bands like the White Stripes piss all over Clapton, that's why Radiohead are infinitely better than U2. |

Radiohead sucks large mammal penis. Radiohead fans immediately get knocked down a degree in my own personal estimation of them. Radiohead is noise, and a strange cultural phenomenon. They remind me some of Nirvana or Pearl Jam (both also SUCK large mammal penis), someone, somewhere said these bands were "kool" and like the pop-cultural lemmings that the young people are today everyone jumped onto the "radiohead is awesome" bandwagon for fear of ridicule for not liking the garbage they put out. Imaginative? My kid he's very imaginative banging on pots and pans when he was smaller, but I didn't package it as "music" and market it to the world as "genius" Puhleeese . . . |

With Radiohead, for a lot of people it's not about the music... one way or the other. There are a lot of people who refuse to listen to them for fear of being labelled a Radiohead fan! How ridiculous is that! Radiohead fans have that steroetype about them, the nerdy spotty student wannabe cool type person, and nobody wants to be dumped into that group, do they? But, for me it is about the music, nothing more. We disagree when it comes to imagination. Their first two albums were very good, but these two are the ones that are of the same ilk as Pearl Jam. The third album, OK Computer, was breathtaking, and then after that it went all electronica, a complete change of direction. Whether or not you like it is besides the point, believe me, it's brilliant, imaginative electronica. But you like Muse! Well, early Muse is like early Radiohead! What's the difference? Progressive angst rock and whiny voice, they're almost the same band! Nirvana weren't too bad, vastly overrated, but not dreadful... the Unlpugged in New York album is stunning. And Pearl Jam... yeah, they're crap. Best band of that sort are the Pixies. |

musket what are they putting in the water down under? or is it the lack of ozone that is allowing the uv to adversely affect your brain? you guys are crazy - nirvana was a good band, unplugged is a masterpiece. pearl jam is ok. clapton is only boring to those who do not know anything about guitar. u2 was the best band of the 80's. pink floyd was great. |

musket but... none of them approaches hendrix, santana, or cream. or even the beatles, the doors, or the stones. listen to some old funkadelic. that will get you going : ) truth is, most of the high school kids are listening to floyd, aerosmith, ac-dc, beatles, doors, zeppelin, and metallica. by the way, no one has mentioned one of my faves: the red hot chili peppers are awesome!!! |

This type of so called modern music is painful to the ears. Unless of course one is stoned out of ones head with something or other. At least the bands we 'oldies' listened to could be appreciated straight or stoned. (LOL) It is really just the old argument of the young needing something different and relevant to the times (their times of course, we oldies know nothing, and are just stupid senile old sods! Sorry talking to teenagers again last night . When you (the younger generation) are our ages I wonder if you will look back at your music with affection as we oldies now do, or cringe at what you were listening to. There is good and not so good in all forms of music, the crap you posted I'm afraid falls into the latter. |

I don't listen to pop, country or rap. Some of what i listen to can be classified as rock but mostly I listen to electronic/dance/techno/hardstyle as well. How can you not like that stuff, great beats, loops, rips, the works. Im surprised Disturbed hasn't come up yet, they put out a number of good songs. Stricken and Decadence for example. Daughtry and Nickelback are another two great bands. |

Incidently a very dangerous practice, but I suppose I am being old here, nothing to do with not being able to hear danger coming on the road, or, hearing ambulance or fire engines trying to get somewhere (more often than not to pull 'young' idiots out of wrecked cars because they do not pay enough attention to the surroundings whilst driving, not surprising given the crap they are listening to Ok, I'm going a 'little' over the top here (LOL). "...Thats why Madonna never made it back in the world..." Love her or hate her the woman was and is an incredible talent. She is one of the few who did actually change with the times. She is perhaps not the most musical artist, but she sure has been one of the best live performers of the past thirty years. Do you think the bands you listen to now will last that long at the top. "...and thats the reason why INXS needs to quit while they are ahead, or atleast before they hire their sixth lead singer..." INXS another band who were alright at the time but not quite earth shattering. Another case of lead singer tragically dies, Oops! sales go up, popularity increases, everybody loved them. Musically not the best of bands. Bigger band after death than before, go figure. |

Yes change, thats what its all about. I for example drive a 2004 Mitsubishi Magna AWD, ill admit a bit of a grandma's car, so I whacked some 18" alloys on it, Ralliart stickers and a nice audio system, albeit cheap. Thats pretty much the better part of my savings at the moment. Some people I know drive around with 2 grand worth of car and 5 grand worth of stereo system. I can't see the sense in buying a Hyundai eXcel and putting 5 grand into it but hey, some people do that. And what better way to show off your audio system than playing music that people can hear for miles? |
