Teaching Karl Marx
www.google.com

It’s important to teach Karl Marx properly to cut through right wing lies and demonization. “Free markets” are a hoax. Many in new generations are open to better enonomic ideas than the past. We need a socialist capitalist hybrid system.

dmaestro brings up a very important and interesting point. It is very unfortunate that Marx' ideas and theories are today - by many - equalised with the dictatorships of Soviet Union, China, and Cuba (and some others). Because of this "Marxism" has become something of a swear word for many in the west. As is true so often, good education and learning the facts is the only way to the actual truth.

stahl...
...you are right. Once we associate a word, like "Marxism" for example, with something bad, then the new meaning takes hold. Among those less educated, this new meaning is hard to reverse. There are numerous words like this in our vocabularies, and they're used particularly in political discussions ...thrown about like swords in a fencing match.

the problem of attemting to introduce Marxism, or socialism into a Democratic society like Australia is at least twofold.Firstly,as Dmaestro says is how to overcome the demonisation of most systems looking or sounding too much like Socialism or Marxism for the majority of the public to accept. secondly, even if you manage to change the system, human nature will remain the same. Put any number of people in a society and give them all equal assetts and opportunity,a completely flat, non stratified society, and eventually one person will rise to the top of what has become a stratified society, which will require a "strong man" or dictator to keep the peace
Better solution at least for Oz is the type of Democratic Socialism they currently have, but get rid of the economic rationalism of Milton Friedman, and revert to the economic rationale of someone like Gailbraith
