Sticking with tennis:

Gabriela Sabatini or Steffi Graf?
rilke
12-Mar-07, 09:00

Graf
I used to love watching her playing. She dominated the game.

more tennis:

Chris Evertt Lloyd or Martina Navratilova?
spygirl
12-Mar-07, 09:46

Navratilova
Only because I think she was a better player. Navratilova didn't retire 'til I think last year because she continued to play in doubles matches. I also think she had more grand slam titles to her name than Chris Evert...and well, I can recall watching Martina play...can't really recall watching Chris Evert matches.

even more tennis:

Ivan Lendl or Boris Becker.

(I was an AVID tennis player at one point...high school tennis team and was going to play for college, but decided against it.)
rilke

Becker
He had a feisty attitude.

Jimmy Connors or John Mc Enroe?
spygirl
12-Mar-07, 10:48

McEnroe
For the sheer entertainment value of his tirades....while connors was a perfect gentleman, John McEnroe was fun to watch. I once saw him play Agassi in a charity match and they had the crowd laughing the entire time.

Mia Ham or Nadia Komanechi?
spygirl
12-Mar-07, 12:34

Mia Hamm
I think she's done a lot for women's sports in this country. She made it acceptable for a girl to be in sports and not be viewed as being too boyish; back when I was in high school, there really were no female athlete roll-models. In fact, I actually downplayed my involvement in sports at that time because I didn't want to be viewed as too much of jock, not feminine enough, etc. I regret that now and see how silly it was.

Plus, she helped to put women's soccer on the map....in the world cup back in 1999....man that was amazing to watch.

Nike or Addidas?
rilke

Pele or Maradona?
spygirl
12-Mar-07, 13:30

Pele
Hands down. One of the greatest soccer players ever.

My grandfather used to be big into soccer and coached semi-professional soccer and had the privilege of meeting Pele once.

Tiger Woods or Jack Nicklaus?
rilke
12-Mar-07, 15:41

Tiger
Tiger is the Man....!!...I agree Pele is the greatest>>but Maradona has his status too.

Jordan or Di Magio?
chessbeatswork
12-Mar-07, 16:42

MJ
I'm too young to have seen Dimaggio play. And while there's no discounting just how great he was, MJ completely dominated his sport for a decade.

PS. Maradona should never, ever be mentioned in the same sentence as Pele unless the sentence goes something like 'Maradona should never be mentioned in the same sentence with Pele'.

For any hockey fans:

13-Mar-07, 09:28

Science
But I think art is scientific in its own sense.....

Galileo or Darwin?
chessbeatswork
13-Mar-07, 09:43

Now that's a good one...
Ultimately, I have to go Darwin. Both had a profound impact on history and utterly changed their fields. But I think Darwin's discovery was far more subtle and thus required singular insight.

Collie or German Shepherd?
spygirl
13-Mar-07, 09:52

Collie
I have 2 shelties (which look like miniature collies, so I am very biased).....but I also grew up with a german shepherd.
