overworked?
For a couple years I've been blaming it on lack of sleep, too much pressure from my job, earwax buildup, poor blood, but now I found out the real reason:

I'm tired because I'm overworked.

Here's why:

The population of the USA is about 273 million.

140 million are retired.

That leaves 133 million to do the work.

There are 85 million in school.

Which leaves 48 million to do the work.

Of this there are 29 million employed by the federal government.

Leaving 19 million to do the work.

2.8 million are in the armed forces.

Which leaves 16.2 million to do the work.

Take from the total the 14,800,000 people who work for state and city governments.

And that leaves 1.4 million to do the work.

At any given time there are 188,000 people in hospitals,

Leaving 1,212,000 to do the work.

Now, there are 1,211,998 people in prisons.

That leaves just two people to do all the work.

You and me, and you're sitting on your rear, at your computer, reading jokes

Have a great day Dave

I am one of the retired and love it.
The only things I miss about working
are the holidays and 3 day weekends.

when I retired I realized I wasn't getting
any holidays off, no 3 day weekends.

Instead I can claim any day as a holiday
and my weekends are 7 days long.

What a tough life this is!!

chuck..
my little joke was about Dave saying he was over-worked, stressed..then quoting stats from the USA...he is from the UK.
I know they were not " real " stats...all a joke really.

I knew it was a joke!!
I just did not understand it. I thought
maybe there was something I was missing.

What Dave said above may be a joke
but it is almost true.

There are less and less people working to pay
for the ever growing numbers of people getting
on the "govt. bandwagon" free rides.

I have heard people say that govt. assistance
in the US needs to be expanded. I on the other
hand think that too many people are getting too
much for doing nothing. It leads to entire
generations of people living off the taxpayers.

Do you guys in the UK have similar opinions
about govt. assistance in the UK?

chuck..
I think that view would find a great deal of support in the UK.
Another point is the sheer wastage in the " public service sector "..pick up a copy of the " Guardian " newspaper and there will be 20/30 pages of jobs with all sorts of spurious titles, all with lovely fat salaries...I dont think anyone knows what these people actually " do " for a living.

Don't get me wrong!!
I am all for helping people but there is
has to be a limit.

In the US we have raised generations of
people that live off the govt. and still
complain they need more.

I think part of the problem that caused
the recent havoc in New Orleans was
the "welfare state" mentality. Many
people are waiting for the feds to support
them and do all of their thinking for them
as well.

Hurricane Katrina ravaged New Orleans
but few people realize that Mississippi
was actually harder hit but New Orleans
got all the press. You did not hear too
much about Mississippi and Alabama
because the state and local officials had
much better control of the situation.
Louisiana did not!! Instead they were
waiting for the federal govt. to be
their saviour.

It is not a racial thing. Mississippi and
Alabama have a high % Black population
as does New Orleans but the mentality
is totally different. People of all races
need to learn to do for themselves as
well as get help where they can get it.

It is the "doing for yourself" that is
foreign to many.
