Avoiding inconsistant play
When I first came to Gameknot I was introduced to The Four Steps. They have helped me to improve my game so I would like to share them with my team mates. I was told they would add 100 elo points to my game and they did. The key is to avoid " bad " moves, if you follow them your game will improve too.

Before making the move you have decided upon, prior to touching the piece or hitting the send button, ask yourself these four questions. Ever time, from the first move to the last move.

1. What square will this move seize?
2. What square will the move release?
3. What lines will this move open?
4. What lines will this move close?

If you look at these four things, it will cost you only two minutes. plenty of time in correspondence chess. Over the board you may not have enough time initially with the time controls, but you will be able to do it very quickly if you follow these suggestions and do it on every move for the next six complete games.

Good luck, I hope they help you as they have me. Fred
