KGA C39 Kieseritsky, Paulsen Defence
1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4 3. Nf3 g5 4. h4 g4 5. Ne5 ...

Analysis here at Gameknot says that 5. ... Nf6 is the best response.
Analysis at Chess.com says that 5. ... Ne5 is a mistake and that 5. ... Qe7 is better.

Does anyone know the King's Gambit well enough to clarify this?

5...Nf6 is the better move.

According to Chessbase GB openings Book move 5...Nf6!! is better than 5...Qe7? dubious move. Trust more in the openings book move of CB because its statistics are compiled from GM games and GK- GB are compiled from all of the GK game players regardless of their ratings.

KGA is a very sharp game with a lot of tactical possibilities for both sides. If you are not familiar with this opening you can fall into the traps especially when you are playing black. When I was a beginner I used to play Ruy Lopez that is 1.e4, e5 but the white dictates the game and he can transform into other opening variation. For me, I have very limited opening repertoire. So, I try to avoid King's Gambit by playing Sicilian when I play Black., that is 1.e4- c5. If you are interested in playing KGA or any other variation please go to youtube and type in the opening variation in the search engine. The above link is the game between American GM Bobby Fischer and Russian GM Spasky. In this game Fischer lost. Try to study top GM games in youtube. Good Luck.

Thanks. I can't force people to play KGA, but if they throw 1. ... c5 at me I'll respond with the Smith-Morra. My results with it are pretty poor so far... still, Carnegie Hall.

Play in mini tournaments.
If you are interested in playing just KGA go to " COMPETE" in the task bar above between messages and teams. Click on it and you will see, " Mini-Tournaments". Click on it again and look for the MT you would like to play. If you cannot find any one you can create your own with the few openings moves, starting position, and rating within your range.
