Hello...
Hello to everyone in the club,
My name is Don and I have been playing chess since about 1970 and I've been playing tournament chess through the USCF since about 1977. But I laid off of the game for almost 25 years before coming back to it, and now have been playing again for about five years. Now I am trying hard to rebuild my game and one of the areas of concentration is having a solid opening reportoire. Playing as white I will open with 1. e4 about 85% of the time, and I love to play the Scotch if possible. Not many people are as ready for it as in other openings. Of course, I love 1. d4 openings also....but moreso as black than white. Openings like the Slav, Gruenfeld, King's Indian, etc., suit me fine. Anyway, thanks for allowing me to join the club and look forward to being part of things here in the forum.

Hiiiii
to everyone from Croatia!

I'm looking forward to contribute to this forum, to participate in thematic mini-tournies and to learn a lot!

They say my strength are endgames, crowded middle games suits me too, but I'm still struggling with making my openings repertoire.. I'm trying a lot of things.. I usually use database on GK for openings, but I want to get rid of it, I want to memorize openings.. this year I'm probably back to active chess in my country and I must work work and work on my openings...
As White I like active openings, I'm not afraid of gambits, sacrifices.... I will mostly open game with e4.
As Black I really hate to see c4.
That's all for a start..

I already know this Club will help me a lot

Hey All
I was taught to play chess by my father at an earily age. Then played through high school, college found my coaching my old high school team and then well, work got in the way. I'm just starting to play again after a few years and the first thing I noticed was that I forgot all my openings.

So, I'm getting back into it.

intro
I have played since I was 5 but not seriously til I was 29.
As White I played Giuoco Piano exchange variations on French & Caro Kahn and main lines against Sicilians. As Black I played main lines against e4, Nimzo-Indian Defense against QGD and seat of my pants against everything else.
Recently, I retired and found time to learn Danish and Wing Gambit. I've done well with Danish and had mixed results with the Wing. I'm learning Schlieman Defense to Ruy Lopez & Anti-Nimzo-Indian & Mikenas-Flohr responses to the English.
I've used Chessgames.com to collect several hundred games of Danish & Wing.
I'm using "Winning Quickly with Black" by Iakov Neishtadt, published by Cadogan to learn Anti-Nimzo-Indian & Mikenas-Flohr responses to the English.
I've found Bill Wall's Miniatures books published by Chess Enterprises a goo way to study the common openings, because he shows how non-masters can easily lose a game in the opening. It's less painful to learn this from a distance.

Hi...
My name is Phillip,

I have been playing Chess for 3 years now. On a good day I am about 1400.
I am obsessed with Chess.
I collect hardcover Chess books and I have almost 200 of them.
I also collect Chess sets but I only have about 30.

My goal is to become an 1800 player.
I play in real tournaments as well as on-line ones.

When I get older I am going to open a small Chess club and host USCF tournaments.

A newcomer here to learn...
Time has bestowed on me a gray beard but I remain a child in many ways, in love, in wit, in liberty, in perseption, in this royal game of chess. You can see in my Gameknot stats a history of mostly uninspired play marked with all too occasional flashes of inspiration. I like the offbeat, asymmetry of the Albin Counter-Gambit, the variations of which I am currently experimenting. Left to my own devices as White I usually open with e4, chiefly because it was Bobby Fischer's preference. I don't try the Giuoco Piano except with weaker opponents and the Evans Gambit takes more cojones than I have (although it's fun to watch Morphy go to town with it). As Black I move to c5 on an e4 opening and from there it's anybody's guess. Lo these many years ago I once paid for and lost an instructive game with Rossolimo -- frankly I can't say I've improved much since then. Maybe this club will help.

Hi,

I'm David from Scotland. I'm starting to get back into chess after a couple of years on-off.

Played for years as a defensive quiet player then switched to attacking style. I'm hoping to mix it all together and become stronger for it.

One area of my game that has lacked has been my openings. I've never really learn't in depth lines or whatnot and I'm still searching for systems that suit my play. I'm hoping I can create an opening set for tournament play that suits me and can give me at least equal position coming out of the opening phase.

Hi

I have just returned to chess after 15 years, and haven't played otb for a long time.

As white:

e4 Vienna

e4 -c5 closed sicilian.

French Advanced variation although have been experimenting with b3

As black I've just started to experiment with the Najdorf, and have been having lots of fun with it.

Against d4 I normally play nf6.

looking forward to learning more about openings and hopefully finding a hidden gem which will suit my playing style.

Greetings
Greetings everyone,

I have been in the club for a while, but somehow I missed this thread so I will post now. I have been playing for roughly 6 years and I really enjoy the openings of chess games. I will pretty much play any opening giving me a wide range of positional knowledge to work from so that I am rarely caught off guard by some offbeat opening my opponent throws at me. That being said here are my favorites:

White-
The Reti (hence the name)
The English - Closed & Accelerated Fianchetto
The King's Gambit
The Catalan

Black-
Caro-Kann
Center Counter
King's Indian Defense
Nimzo-Indian Defense
Queen's Indian Defense

I am always open to a challenge with any opening, and I look forward to playing a few games with you.

Hi all!
Hi all. I am a fanatic of openings, and love studying variations! I play the Queen Pawn, and my favourite opening is both sides of the King's Indian Defence. I reply to the King Pawn with the French Defence 1...e6. I look forward to contributing to this club!

hello!
To be honest I have no idea what certain openings are called. I joined this group in an effort to start learning more about opening theory. I have played chess on and off most of my life. I am also an avid backgammon and poker player. I look forward to learning and sharing. Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi all
Hi all, I'm getting back into playing correspondence chess after a break of about 20 years, but using the internet instead of post cards (how a postcard from the USA to Australia could come via Austria still puzzles me). My interest in openings is to find the variations which will win me the most games with the least effort.

Greeting to all....
and thanks for accepting me into the club.I've been playing OTB and correspondence chess on the tournament, club and casual level for over 40 years. While I do not have the time or desire to be a chess instructor,I do enjoy passing on some game insight or "wisdom"I have acquired over the years. My favorite openings on the club level are irregular openings such as Sokolsky Opening, Sodium Attack or the Trompowski. For irregular defense,I have played the Basman 1.e4,g5 as a surprise weapon with a fair amt.of success. In regular USCF rated tournaments,I do not use irregular openings alot, but they still remain favorites of mine.
Hopefully, I can help some players out in this club with their game play, opening theories and more,or altleast put my "2 cents"in!
I may not be very active in this club until the end of summer, since I have a few USCF events and tourneys coming up soon, from June till Sept.
Good chess to all!

hello folks
I am a very non-technical player. I don't know the names of opening moves. I just play and I love to play the game. I have recently started to study opening theories and have been working on learning different opening styles and situations. I look forward to playing with and learning from all of you!

hello
Just joined the club, and I'm a big opening geek. I've been play the Ruy as white for a while, and I'm getting sick of it, so I've been playing d4 lately. I used to play the sicilian a lot as black, but I'm finding that a lot of people know the variations, and the games are very similar for the first 15 or so moves. So, now I'm toying with the Alekhine...

hello
I started playing in 7th grade when it was raining outside one of the few games we could play during our break was chess. There was about 5 of us that played during those type days we only knew how to move the pieces. One day I noticed a program on my computer called Chessmaster 4000 not sure why we had it no one in my family really played. Well I played vs it lost alot games in like 13 moves and then I started trying to mimic the type of moves it made in the opening. After couple games like that I was easily the best in my class   and then I started playing online on pogo for about year. One of the people I played a lot told me I was very good for my age and I should look into some clubs and tournaments. I never placed worst then 3rd in a youth tournament. I recently came back to playing chess and changed almost all the openings I use.

Nowadays as White my openings are based around the Trompowsky I find it leads to exciting games

as black

d4 i answer with the dutch

English I try to go into the dutch again 1c4 1 f5 hoping for 2 d4

e4 I try to go into the Najdorf this is the only opening that I play now and that i use to play OTB I am kind of tired of it but I haven't found any other response to e4 that looks good to me yet

I joined this club so I could learn more about openings. I enjoy chess but don't always understand the reasoning behind certain moves in the openings. I look forward to opening my mind to openings other than 4 knights!

Hi all,
I'm from France and have been studying chess for a couple of months only. (although I've known
the basics for a long time)

*As white I usually play 1.e4 (ruy lopez most of the time) and I try to see what the Reti has to
offer. I also like the sokolsky-canal attack on black when he plays the sicilian.

*As black I like the Sicilian but my center always becomes a mess after the first few moves
depending on what the opponent plays. (lack of theory knowledge)

I plan on studying the French defense next.

Introduction
Hey everyone,

I may not be too interesting, but my favorite as White is the Scotch Gambit (1. e4 e5, 2. Nf3
Nc6, 3. d4 with 4. Bc4 if the gambit is accepted, not the common 4. Bb5). Against the Sicilian
(1...c5) I usually play a variation of the Grand Prix Attack (with the characteristic f4).

As black, I prefer the Sicilian Hyper-Dragon (1...c5, 2...g6 followed soon by a finachetto) against
White. This order cuts some of White's anti-Sicilian options out. Against 1. d4, I like the Nimzo-
Indian (1...Nf6).

Introduction
Heya,

I am a very avid follower of openings (my reason for playing CC style games)-

I have been a d4 player for years and have most played the Sicilian vs e4.

I would be glad to analyze, or play with players who have areas of their repertoire that cross over with mine. Feel free to message me if you are interested in a certain opening.

Hey guys
Hey everyone,

I joined the club to try and understand the "why?" of the chess openings.
So I will post frequently to learn as much as I can.

I am a classical center player which means e4 with white and against e4 I play e5 and against d4 I play d5.

Against unusual stuff I just try to stake my claim in the center.
