![]() I found it very insulting because in a club forum that is for the discussion, a new member to the club complains in his very first post to the forum that there hasn't been any new messages and nothing is happening. I replied in that thread with a satirical comment in reply. Because to me it was a stupid question and deserve the like in return. Maybe you don't understand why I found it insulting, let me explain a few of the more mundane points about clubs: 1.) Unlike teams, I as club founder have to pay a separate fee on top of my membership to have the club. So believe me, if the club was dead, I would no longer be paying the fee. 2.) Unlike teams, all members of GK can read the club forum. The benefit of being a club member is that you can post to the club forum. So if you find the discussion waning or not to your liking then engage your fellow club members. Take the initiative, start a new thread about a opening, post a reply to a old thread about a opening. if you find yourself lacking in material about a opening, then start a conversation on something that you think will be informative or entertaining to the rest of the club members. BUT DO NOT THINK THAT AS A CLUB MEMBER YOU HAVE RIGHT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE REST OF THE MEMBERS LACK OF DISCUSSION. 3.) Unlike teams or PMs, there is no flashing envelope next to the Clubs link when there are new postings in the club forum. That means the only way you can tell if there is new postings is if you actually visit the club forum. Sometimes other club members may forget or be too busy to go visit the club forum and notice your posting. Even with the delay in noticing a posting, it may be still a while after that before someone replies. After all this is a forum about unusual openings. Positions in chess that we are not familiar with and therefore need to take the time to think of a intelligent reply. So please be patient when posting to the club forum. If you do not like having to visit the club forum every time you visit GK to see if someone has replied in a thread then there are ways around it. See my thread in the club forum titled "Gameknot Easter Eggs" and the message titled "Who needs the enevelope for the club forum". It wills save your patience and mouse clicks. ANYWAY in the future, if I or the club moderator notice someone complaining about the lack of postings or there is nothing new to read, they will be booted from the club without warning. If all you want to be as a club member is a lurker then you can do it as non-member and it will save the club forum for more intelligent discussions. ALSO if there is something in the club you don't like or have a suggestion, then PM me mikekelly666 or Raul buddyrevell. We respond better to suggestions and complaints in private than in public Thank you for your understanding Michael Kelly |
