And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? 8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together." (KJV) Genesis 22:13 "And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. " (KJV) I think the lamb he was referring to was Christ as it was a ram that was actually provided for the sacrifice.
walkingman 25-Jul-08, 17:46	The Ram certainly represents Christ as does Isaac. The earliest reference however to Christ I think, would have to be taken from the following passage. Genesis 3 "15And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and HER SEED (Christ the one born of a woman); it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." Perhaps even older than that from a date of writing POV, would be the prophetic references to Christ in the book of Job, which writing may well have predated the writing of the Pentateuch (the books of Moses). Job 19:25 "For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:" Job 9:33 Neither is there any DAYSMAN (a mediator between God and man) betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both. mozz 30-Jul-08, 17:25	Thanks Big Paul, I'm not sure about the Genesis reference. When referring to Eve's seed I thought it was referring to man in general, not necessarily to Christ. I'll have to do a bit more research. BUT... I think I've found the earliest   Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth" (KJV) In the original Hebrew the word Eloheim (not sure on the exact spelling) is used. This refers to plurality as El is God singular. So you could say that the trinity was referenced right from the start.

vanir 02-Aug-08, 17:07	Yes, I agree. But I do agree with mozz about the Genesis chapter, and though the passage in Job might ver well be talking about Christ, wouldn't genesis, which is the story of creation come first?

Genesis wasn't written until the time of Moses, who writes under the influence and direction of the Holy Spirit about events which took place during the creation week (about 4000 years BC). That actual date of writing of the Genesis account would be roughly 1500BC, (about the time of the Exodus), some 2500+ years after the events described in Genesis chapter 1. The book of Job is thought to be dating back to at least the time of Abraham (2000BC) perhaps, or maybe even older. It all depends on how you want to reckon "first". First in "order of occurrence", or first in "order of writing". Genesis is first in "order of occurrence" Job is first in "order of writing". (or so it is presumed) Blessings in Christ Paul
vanir 03-Aug-08, 07:43	Right... But the story of Genesis still happened before Job's time. Moses may have written it down after that, but the fact is, he still wrote down exactly what happened during that time and age. Genesis MIGHT have been written before Job, but that doesn't change the fact that the Genesis passages still happened before Job's time.
