To take it's place in history and become an empire? Should America join the list of the great empires of the past?

I'd say
we have Canada, Mexico, pretty much all of western Europe, most of the pacific Islands, Australia and New Zealand, might as well lay claim to Israel, Palestine, Iraq, the Saudies, Japan, Vietnam, Korea, India, and and much of Africa to boot. The Capitalist Empire that tried to take over the world! The US was just the host to this parasite, which quickly spread to and fro. No offense all you nations out there. We don't really think we own you, hee hee.

It means that time marches on.
Though the respective empires did eventually brake up, most of the originating countries remaind, even till today. Egypt, Britain, Italy, etc. A couple of these empires lasted over a thousand years!

The word 'empire' is being tossed about today (in certain quarters) like it's a bad thing. Far from it.
With few exception, the people living under these empires experienced far better 'living' conditions than people outside the empires. The advancements made during an empires reign could not have happened otherwise. Even today, we (the world) enjoy the fruits of what past empires created.

Those mighty nations served their tour of duty as leader of an empire. America is a comparatively young nation, but so were most of the others when they created an empire.
